  1. Agreed! My buddy & I only discussed the OOS aspect. It came up as a result of a Hawg I tied into in May. I didn't have a camera with me but wondered after if I had taken a shot what the repercussions might be. This was many years ago I might add, but that particular law hasn't been altered that I can see in the regs since then. I have to wonder if he signed your letter (obvious reason), must ask him next time we're chatting! Michael
  2. Irishfield, I think that probably best exemplifies what the MNR stance might or even should be. Quick photo & release, fish survives, no harm no foul as xeon said. But hang 'em on a stringer or tote 'em around in a pail or livewell even, or spend 5 to 10 minutes taking pictures would be where this aspect of the law would (should) come down like a hammer! Along with outright keeping them too, of course. Michael
  3. A buddy of mine is a life long career CO and we had this discussion one time. Even he saw this as ambiguous. If he sees a fish being returned without any delay, he does not feel charges are warranted or sustainable. However, if he sees any kind of "pause" in the effort to return, he feels compelled by his training that charges are warranted and would be sustainable in court. I pushed on this and brought up the CPR (catch photo release) practice. His response was that chances are the delay for a photo might be viewed as a delay, hence not immediate. In his personal view he would be hesitant to charge unless it was obvious that the delay was unreasonable, i.e. minutes instead of seconds. He then pointed out that the letter of the law would be no delay in the effort to release the fish, but as always subject to the interpretation of the attending office to determine if the delay caused an other than immediate release. I guess if the fish swims away to fight another day you'd probably be ok, but if the release was unsuccessful and any delay observed by a CO, you might/could be charged. It all depends on the individual circumstances (all of them) and what a CO might feel warranted at the time. I thanked him for clearing the matter up not at all and he apologized for the lack of clarity (at times) of the laws he must enforce. He did add that if he saw an honest effort being made for a quick release with a quick photo (no time taken for staging etc) that he'd be more compelled in favour of the angler than against. We're still friends, even fish together from time to time. I don't envy him his job at times - or any enforcement officer, when they have to decide on the spot who's offended and who hasn't. They can all be persecuted themselves if the make a wrong call. If the laws were much different, I guess more "bad guys" would get away with things than with the way they are now. Unfortunately, sometimes the good do get caught in with the bad. There are just too many variables involved with seasons, species, targeting and intent to always be able to separate the two. Michael
  4. It'll be interesting to see what your experience is canuckjack. Crossborder can be good, I had some stuff sent via USPS with no glitches or costs at all. It was about a 140.00 US order, but the vendor marked it as rod repair parts valued at 20.00. Came right to my mailbox, didn't even have to pick it up at the post office. Dunno where Massena is but I'm guessing in the US someplace where you can have it forwarded to you. Good Luck! Michael
  5. Never heard of the place but you sparked my interest (have an occasional need as well) Checked their site under the shipping tab. Manuals seem to be sent by USPS (postal) which should be ok. However, it seems parts to Canada are sent UPS. IF that's the case, UPS brokerage and all the other charges can add up fast! I've heard of 40.00 to 60.00 just for brokerage, plus freight, plus GST and any other plus that can be found. Oh, and you pay for the parts on top of all that of course. Your local dealer may have just become much less expensive for the few parts you're seeking. Michael
  6. Thought I saw they wanted 500 sunfish, plus 1 day's possession, meaning 1,000? Even more astronomically stupid when multiplied by hundreds or thousands of anglers. Dunno for sure but I think I'd lose interest cleaning them pretty darn quick! Michael (p.s. - Nice one Irishfield!)
  7. Can't spell, bad grammar, no comprehension from reading. EPIC FAIL! Irish - you may commence... Michael
  8. But to what gain...? I must admit I really can't find any reason to side with what's being presented to support the RLTA or any of it's supporters. It's just plain turned me off wanting anything to do with the lake or any business around it. Any angler who is old enough or who has researched any kind of history knows the pressure on the resource exists GLOBALLY, and steps to manage it must be taken. When they realize they've lost this battle what will they blame next? HST is coming - maybe that might be a diversion! Michael
  9. This is how you attract business to your community? I hope one of our members/mods is reporting this drivel of yours for it's legal implications. Wouldn't it look grand "QUOTED", along with it's verifiable source at one of the meetings when you are attempting to present anything believable. Thank you for confiming my previous choice to avoid your area while all this scrapping (initiated by your association) is present. You have just insulted a forum with almost 7,000 angling members in it's roll - good luck with that! Michael
  10. Wow - the RLTA wants the MNR to overide the DFO to change an individual lakes FMZ (acronym brain freeze now!) regs - have I got that right? Does the RLTA understand that all this involves multiple tiers of government that never moves quickly? Is that why they have started posting here, on an anglers forum, looking for support? After the fact of all the meetings & discussions, presentations and opportunity for input? Somehow methinks approaching this from the municipal level ain't gonna cut it, and certainly not going to find sympathy here from the sounds of it. Singling out scientifically based in fact efforts at resource conservation as potential threats to a business sector in a repressed economy can only be doing one thing - costing the complainers MORE of their proclaimed scarce dollars! How come only the RLTA is sqwaking? Haven't hear any other lake association crying about the new regs. Fellas (& gals!), I say this only once, feel free to chip in, Rice Lake was once one I enjoyed, albeit too infrequently. I've never been one to enter a conflict zone as long as my eyes were open, as they are now. Good thing for me there's many other lakes to fish in. I hope the RLTA realizes the damage they are doing to their entire community BEFORE many more begin to think like I do, in that I really don't want to spend my recreation time and DOLLARS somewhere that is in conflict with the rules I have to obey (and agree with) - kinda makes me feel like I don't belong! Michael
  11. What about one of those whip poles with a flag on it like you see on kids bikes? I agree you shouldn't have too, but it may save a tip up from getting crunched. Michael
  12. Sounds like it makes a good case for leaving late! Hope you'll weather the wait! Michael
  13. Ummm..... Isn't the 2nd Saturday...? Wouldn't want to wait longer than I have to! Michael
  14. Try not to laugh too hard - It's called Lake Dalrymple Resort. It's on the northernmost of the two lakes (called lower cause it drains to the north). There are a couple public access points - Osprey lane for limited boat launching (shallow) and the community centre/beach just up from the resort. For campers there's Meadows End & Layzee Acres. I think Meadow's has a couple cabins too now that we're on to that. You may have been on the southern lake called Upper Lake Dalrymple, don't think there's any access there at all. Michael
  15. You might want to consider Lake Dalrymple resort, they have all of what you're looking for and boat rentals (you never said if you needed/had one). Great dink perch & sunfish right off their docks and all round good fishing on the whole lake. Not sure what the rates are like but if you google it I believe they either have their own site or are attached to the local municipality. Michael
  16. All non-portable huts had to be off in zone 17 (Kawarthas including Scugog) & Quinte yesterday. Walleye closed in Scugog & Quinte Sunday night. Kawarthas now have a year round season on perch, sunfish, crappie & pike though. Simcoe is about your only option for operators for now. With the warm weather this week I wouldn't wait too long, conditions could deteriorate rapidly. Michael
  17. Nobody ever wants to hear of such a tragedy, my heartfelt sympathies to all concerned. I do have to ask - if he was so well liked WHY was he out there alone? Michael
  18. Don't quote me but I believe it is law that if you are called to jury duty your employer MUST grant you the time off. However, I don't believe they have to pay for it (jurors get a "modest" per diem, think I saw 50.00 earlier). You'd only miss sleep over earning less for the time you were sitting!
  19. Most 9.9's will troll fairly nicely, but the 6 would definitely be the better choice if trolling is your major effort. The 9.9 would be better if you are travelling a fair ways to your honey holes. I guess one rule of thumb that may apply is that it's a little easier to slow a boat down than it is to speed it up. I had a 7.5 Merc on my 12 foot tinny, could plane wonderfully with 2 on board but I could only backtroll, wouldn't idle down enough for my tastes unless I towed a bucket or drift sock. Our older 6 Johnson would troll so slow that a breath of wind would nearly stop the boat, but with 2 on board plus gear it was just able to plane, covering any distance took a fair bit of time. It was ok for our lake (Dalrymple), but with bigger lakes I'd lean towards a bit more power. Michael
  20. Only applies IF you want out: Wear shoes - not boots. When they start interviewing you, excuse yourself for a moment, remove one shoe, hold it like a telephone and say "You AGAIN! I told you I'd be busy for a while - stop calling me!" If they don't show you the door after that, maybe you should show them! Michael (ps - make sure you collect the allowance they pay, ain't much but you're entitled!)
  21. Wow! Just Wow! Gentlemen, keep 'em coming, absolutely magnificent! Michael
  22. Never heard of the first two, third one is my ex! Michael
  23. Hmmmm... Guess you & tightline went to the same typing school Michael ps - reverse psychology seems to be working TJ!
  24. Cheapskate?????????? 2nd time today I've been called that! What'd I do? What'd I do? Michael
