  1. Hi all, went camping for a couple nights at the beginning of this week at our local Provincial Park which is on a lake trout lake. I headed out two mornings in a row at the crack of dawn as it’s my experience that the fishing is better before 9am. First morning the trout were chasing and biting, the second morning out they would only chase. Both mornings produced some really nice walleye, something about walleye in trout lakes, they are tanks, difficult to find sometimes, but when you do find them it’s a blast! I finished both mornings with a few bass once the trout and walleye bite stopped around 9am, WeatherRadar was perfect, fishing was great and was back in time for breakfast.
  2. Just stitched together the video of my two early morning walleye raids from the weekend, uploading to Ytube as I type, will post this morning. Oh, and thanks for your help and suggestions for mounting my GPS puck.
  3. It has a swing tongue already, but I ll check that out, thanks.
  4. I’m gonna ask my neighbour if it’s doable, that weld would be taking a lot of weight/stress… no?
  5. My new boat. It’s a 2024 Crestliner Hawk 1750 with a Mercury Pro XS 115. The ‘Hawk’ is a new model for this year, it lies between the ‘Vision’ series and the ‘Fish Hawks’. The real difference between the Hawk and Fish Hawk 1750s is the the 88” and 96” respective beam widths, my Hawk maxes out at 115hp and the Fish Hawk 150hp. Price was a factor in my decision but the smaller hawk has some advantages over the larger Fish Hawk, fuel consumption with not much top end speed given up and also I can store 5 x 9’ rods( musky 😊) where the fish hawk doesn’t. I got a side console which gives me a lot of room and it’s pretty stable with even 4 adults in it. I heard a lot about Crestliner being a ‘wet’ ride but I find if you trim up as much as possible it just skips along in a brisk 25kmh wind/waves. Top speed I have so far is just over 40mph, I have managed that with 3 adults and by myself with about the same amount of fuel and gear, it’ll do me as gas consumption is way better( almost equal to my old 50hp) in the 4000 to 4500 range rather than pinning it, it is fun to do once in a while though. My only real complaint is the expensive galvanised trailer it came with, the length of the tongue does not allow for any sort of rock guard to be attached… and I bought one for north of $1000 and looks like I can’t use it 😡, I’ll sell my old trailer and this new one and should be able to get another one that fits my needs. It’s all my old electronics and trolling motor, definitely room for upgrades there, but after this expense I’m broke… lol, and I’ll make do. My old Ulterra 80lb thrust has more than enough power, it might come up a bit short when it’s really gnarly as it is a 60” shaft, next one will be a 72”. The Bose stereo kicks a$$ and while I prefer the sounds or lack of in nature, every now and again it’s fun to pump tunes at 40mph. Auto bilge, recirc livewell, front baitwell, cool track system for mounting accessories etc. the jump seats are really cool and have storage underneath them and make it possible to do away with any seats with passengers. really adding to the overall space in the boat. I have some repeat customers next week who are used to trying to cast musky in my old boat…. They are in for a treat this year… now if I can just put them on fish… lol.
  6. Great spot you have there TJ.
  7. Hi all, with the laborious initial 2hr break in under the belt it did not take long to get the next 8hrs on the new Merc. The sliming got better the last few days as I hit up the trout lake at our local Provincial Park where we have been tent camping the last couple of nights. The lake trout have been fussy but got a few, the bass have also been fussy, but got a few, and the walleye have been fussy as well…. sigh… but have had 3x26”, 1x 28” and a chunky 29”er with a couple small ones thrown in during two crack of dawn sessions.
  8. I should read more… lol. Thanks for that, very interesting.
  9. Hi all, After three weeks of ‘tough’ fishing and weather here on Lake Wabigoon things have started to settle down and pick up. Surface temps on the main lake finally hit the 60sF mark around midweek and with it the walleyes hit the humps and my baits. Did some hump hopping for a couple hours the other day and every spot had hungry fish, strangely no slots or overs but after weeks of ‘one fish here, one fish there and move’ it was fun do get some numbers action. The boys and girls in the Dryden Walleye Masters will have zero problems getting their unders today!
  10. Have to agree about Lakemaster being dangerous. I guided some guys last year who had the Lakemaster chart for Wabigoon Lake here in NW Ontario, so many of the hazards were missing, I literally took them to some hazards I know are ther and showed them it was not marked, removed their chip and inserted my Navionics and there it was… clear as day, they were pissed!
  11. Hi all, My old small chest freezer quit on me year before last and I found a new one for $50 this spring and decided to upgrade my old system, once again Youtube was my hero. This time I have a temp controlled switch to keep the water at a constant temp, and a neat filter system that also acts as an aerator. The submersible 425GPH pump in the tank draws water up into 5 gallon bucket filled with filter medium and gravity discharges back into the tank via a spray bar(aeration). I'm am not a technically gifted person so it took me ages, but varnish and silicone complete, all plumbing in place, tank seams sealed, new top insulation in place....should be able to give it a test run on Sunday....if this works it will be so cool...
  12. Go get 'em!
  13. Hi all, Got out with a buddy to do a bit more exploring before walleye opens here on Wabigoon Lake, got into some bass, a few pike and a couple of crappie. Surface temps have risen a fair bit in a week, hovering around 48 - 50F on the main lake and in a few shallow channels we saw up to 57F. Bass were in the shallow bays in the warm muddy waters and a few shallow rock flats, very aggressive, pike are probably just about done spawning in the shallow weedy bays and the crappie we found were down in and suspended over 27'FOW.
  14. Yeah, the video is not new, and i'm sure seasoned musky guys like yourself have seen it all before, but I broke my last Thorn Bros double sided box which was gifted to me by some guys I guided and was in desperate need of immediate tackle storage, I guess because its 'musky tackle' I shouldn't have been surprised at the cost, but HOLYFREEKINGUACAMOLE BATMAN....$400??!!?? LOL...I'm good with hooks catching here and there, beats what I had before too.
  15. Hi all, gotta love YouTube, found a video that showed how to make a homemade musky tackle box and save myself $300! Basically 2 10’ lengths of pvc downspout from Rona, an Ozark 48 can cooler from Walmart and 15 minutes on the mitre saw. The product it produces comes in at Around C$115 and easily replaces the item below which comes in at anywhere between $390 and $450. here is the video link for anyone interested .
  16. Hi all, Got out for the first boat outing this year, surface temps hovering around 40F. Looking in vain for crappie but we found some decent bass, a ton of hammer handle pike and the motherload of Rock Bass and Perch in one hole in 30'FOW(weird, never caught so many rock bass, even double headers.)

  19. I get a three week break here, usually get a large(ish) project finished every year.
  20. Lol… I don’t get it.
  21. Hi all, Got to our spot around 5pm, usually pick up a couple of whitefish and the odd walleye and pike before the bite turns on but it wasn’t until 7:20pm when the switch got flicked. We didn’t even mark a single fish before that, was getting worried… lol. Once they turned on it was non stop bites.
  22. Couple more weeks of safe ice, gotta make the most of it right?
