Best was 16”, very healthy fish, it hit like a pike… lol.

Hi all, Managed to go for a short shore session up the road, intention was walleye but I usually bring a heavy rod to clear the pike out of the area as there are always one or two sitting by the ledge waiting to ambush your catch as you reel in. Had about 5 dink walleye in 2 hours but at least got a bit of action with a couple decent pike.

Hi all, After a chilly morning doing yard work I couldn’t resist, the lake was flat calm and bluebird skies so I texted my neighbour who was up for it in 2 seconds flat…. Lol. We headed out to the brushpiles and had non stop crappie for 2 hours with a couple small walleye and one decent one. Few more walleye suspended over the basin that would only investigate a jig and minnow, ended up with the bigger one on power bait minnow. Some decent weather ahead so will keep the boat ready a bit longer.

Wow…you were really paying attention! Cool! Yeah, anything bright works good in the stained water, however I did really well with black jigs this year, mind you the bite was so aggressive some days you would probably catch them with a Smokey tied to some anchor rope.

Hi all, Been having a blast with the crappie this year here on Wabigoon lake. The FFS (Active Target) really helps narrow down which spot to sit on and its pretty fun and informative to watch fish reactions and behaviours in real time. Nothing fancy, jig and minnow on light gear and line.

Lol…I was saying try a jig and minnow for her, maybe confuse her into biting… lol

Hi all, It’s been 2 years since I went to Lac Seul (William’s Bay) so I jumped at the chance when some friends from Wisconsin invited me up there this week. Was surprised how many boats were out there, Silver Water Wheel and William’s Lake Lodge must be full… lol. We ended up sitting on one spot mainly and got some decent walleye and bass action, beautiful day and great company.

Hi all, The fall crappie bite is well underway here on Wabigoon Lake, some really nice walleye hanging out with them too in around 25’ - 15’ feet of water on the steep breaking shorelines. 1/8th Oz jig and a minnow. Thank goodness for electric fillet knives…lol

Hi all, The fishing has been as good as the weather here on Wabigoon Lake. I had the pleasure of guiding a father and son duo and then ga grandpa and his grandson on their birthday treat. We got tons of walleye, BIG crappie and decent pike and musky action. Good Times!

Hi all, The crappie are starting to show up in good numbers on the steep shoreline drop offs, not much happening with them on the reefs but they will be there soon enough. The ones we've been getting are really nice slabs, 14" would be average with a lot of 15"ers. They are pretty scattered, some even hitting suspended half way in the water column, but although spread out they are aggressive when you find a couple.

That is sooooo much sharper than the Lowrance.

Very true about learning fish behaviour. It is as you say amazing to watch schools of walleye just sit a foot off bottom and totally ignore any bait. It’s also amazing to see that when they get off half way up they will hit again 20 feet off bottom. So many cool things to watch and learn.

Hi all, A good buddy from Wisconsin loaned me his Active target for the summer to use and figure out so i could reconnect with him on the ice this winter and teach him how it works. I'm completely new to this technology this year, and given my boat is rigged with Humminbird it was a bit of a steep curve at first but glad to say apart from the mounting of it its pretty much plug 'n' play. I have been using it in "down scan" mode on the humps fishing walleye....seriously these things should be illegal....lol. Sat on a hump in 14' i can see 20' either side of the boat, and the fish are instantly recognizable. Casting to a fish 20 feet to the side and watching it come up and nail the bait is so fun. You can actually see the shape of the fish...we call them cartoon fish. I'm guiding for musky in a week and ill get the chance to use the forward sonar while the boys cast, should be interesting.

It’s the same lake but different spots, you can see I’m in 61’ feet of water for the 1st laker on the Fishfinder in a few of the shots and on the first or second walleye you can see 25’ feet of water for the walleye on the Fishfinder screen, that’s why they aren’t blowing their swim ladders.

Jet skis get my vote. These idiots did a double take look when they saw me, corrected course straight at me and drove right across my 9” Twisted Sister top water…. I was not impressed. The 26,000 acre lake was practically deserted as it was during covid

Hi all, went camping for a couple nights at the beginning of this week at our local Provincial Park which is on a lake trout lake. I headed out two mornings in a row at the crack of dawn as it’s my experience that the fishing is better before 9am. First morning the trout were chasing and biting, the second morning out they would only chase. Both mornings produced some really nice walleye, something about walleye in trout lakes, they are tanks, difficult to find sometimes, but when you do find them it’s a blast! I finished both mornings with a few bass once the trout and walleye bite stopped around 9am, WeatherRadar was perfect, fishing was great and was back in time for breakfast.

Just stitched together the video of my two early morning walleye raids from the weekend, uploading to Ytube as I type, will post this morning. Oh, and thanks for your help and suggestions for mounting my GPS puck.

My new boat. It’s a 2024 Crestliner Hawk 1750 with a Mercury Pro XS 115. The ‘Hawk’ is a new model for this year, it lies between the ‘Vision’ series and the ‘Fish Hawks’. The real difference between the Hawk and Fish Hawk 1750s is the the 88” and 96” respective beam widths, my Hawk maxes out at 115hp and the Fish Hawk 150hp. Price was a factor in my decision but the smaller hawk has some advantages over the larger Fish Hawk, fuel consumption with not much top end speed given up and also I can store 5 x 9’ rods( musky 😊) where the fish hawk doesn’t. I got a side console which gives me a lot of room and it’s pretty stable with even 4 adults in it. I heard a lot about Crestliner being a ‘wet’ ride but I find if you trim up as much as possible it just skips along in a brisk 25kmh wind/waves. Top speed I have so far is just over 40mph, I have managed that with 3 adults and by myself with about the same amount of fuel and gear, it’ll do me as gas consumption is way better( almost equal to my old 50hp) in the 4000 to 4500 range rather than pinning it, it is fun to do once in a while though. My only real complaint is the expensive galvanised trailer it came with, the length of the tongue does not allow for any sort of rock guard to be attached… and I bought one for north of $1000 and looks like I can’t use it 😡, I’ll sell my old trailer and this new one and should be able to get another one that fits my needs. It’s all my old electronics and trolling motor, definitely room for upgrades there, but after this expense I’m broke… lol, and I’ll make do. My old Ulterra 80lb thrust has more than enough power, it might come up a bit short when it’s really gnarly as it is a 60” shaft, next one will be a 72”. The Bose stereo kicks a$$ and while I prefer the sounds or lack of in nature, every now and again it’s fun to pump tunes at 40mph. Auto bilge, recirc livewell, front baitwell, cool track system for mounting accessories etc. the jump seats are really cool and have storage underneath them and make it possible to do away with any seats with passengers. really adding to the overall space in the boat. I have some repeat customers next week who are used to trying to cast musky in my old boat…. They are in for a treat this year… now if I can just put them on fish… lol.
