  1. I target walleye off my dock in the spring, the pike are plentiful too. I also use a slip bobber with an 1/8 Oz jig and minnow. I find I rarely lose jigs to pike, Flourocarbon leader helps, even though it’s only 10lb test. Another option is to use a floating jig on the bottom, I’ll use a 3” piece of 30lb Flourocarbon between the floating jig and a swivel, then run a free running sinker behind the swivel on the main line, attach a rod bell and sit back watch the world go by.
  2. Hi All, Got back from work at 8pm yesterday, and despite the inclement weather I went down to the shore to wet a line on the first day of walleye season. It was....🥶COLD🥶...and snowing with a nice 20kmh NE blowing right in at shore, crazy that 4 days ago it was +32C. I got a few though, hopefully it warms up soon.
  3. The year is shaping up to be messed up already. Ice was only completely gone yesterday, but not a single crappie on the ice spots, but lots of walleye in 30’FOW…?!?!?? So..... went for bass in the shallows and not a single bass either??!?? Was trolling around some shore lines of the bays and the water temps were 50F max…and what do I see swimming towards me suspended over 6’FOW? a school of crappie, I set the bobber to 6” and watched them grab the minnow….way too early in my experience to sight fish them in the shallows…another weird year is on the cards.
  4. That’s awesome, fishing is therapy!
  5. They need to do a version that just lifts the middle finger.
  6. Hi all, the ice cleared the bay this afternoon, the main lake is still covered but should be done by the weekend, had to go down to the dock and cast a HJ.
  7. Personally I like my tech but still love walking a shoreline with a nothing more than a jig and minnow, room for both in my world.
  8. Holy moly… great job… revenge is sweet… I’m jealous lol
  9. I have Ram mounts, the ball joint type. I have to say though that they are crap if driving through rough water for the bigger screens, no matter how tight they move around. So for now I just take it easy when it’s choppy. There are some different mounts that effectively’lock’ your chosen position, but they seem ridiculously expensive. It’s hard to gauge online whether the mount will fit where I need it, and none of the ma & pa fishing shops here in the middle of nowhere stock that sort of thing. I’d be interested to see some of the suggestions and experiences others might post.
  10. I personally would have it at the console for side imaging use as you have to be moving to use SI, sure the trolling motor could move you fast enough, but I would not think standing on the bow is the easiest way to use it. Does your Terrova have the built in transducer?
  11. I found some awesome brush piles doing this last fall, took about half an hour to find them all in an area of about 6 acres with SI set 90’ either side. Circled back and picked them off with FFS in down mode.
  12. I also do this with my ‘bird. I agree with lots on here saying get SI over DI.
  13. Hi all, So...walleye season closed yesterday but we aint done yet, lol. It was so nice out and the howling wind eased by 4pm so I headed out around 5pm. Was cool to ride the sled on a perfectly flat lake, but the snow will be gone by tomorrow evening and back to the quad. Stayed local this evening, and was not expecting too much action fish wise, but in the end it turned out to be a productive couple hours.

  14. Hi all, I had big plans for some BIG walleye to go out with a bang on the final day of Walleye season, well.....mother nature decided to throw a curve ball at my plans, near white out conditions and about 6" more snow than forecast. I just didn't fancy the trails as there are a couple creeks where the snow bridges had probably melted, making it unpredictable to cross by snowmaking, and did not want to travel 15 miles in deep snow on the quad, so opted for more of the same as in my recent posts. Got 4 small keepers in a couple hours, so mission accomplished, the big ones will have to wait till third Saturday in May. Still should be getting out for crappie in the next week, we'll see how that goes.

  15. Hi all, Had a couple hours to fish yesterday, got into a few crappie, a tulibee, some small walleye and a small pike to finish up. Walleye closes today so will have to try again, maybe find a spot with some bigger fish....fingers crossed.

  16. Hey Doug, gotta admit I’m looking forward to boat season, it’s a long winter! We have over two feet of ice still, it’s getting $&@&$y now though, was raining out on the lake this evening, snow tomorrow and back to sun zero at night for the next week or so. At this rate it will be 2nd week of May ice out.
  17. Hi all, Got out for my evening relax, boy is it wet out there, good fun. The walleye were also good fun and plenty of them, just small itty bitty guys though, loads of them. Good spot to take kids.

  20. Hi all, Sometimes its quantity but last night was about quality. I only got four fish last night, (not including a couple hammer handle pike),but three were all over 20", fun to catch and release.
  21. The closest to red is called ‘cinnamon sunset’
  22. Hi all, Last week of walleye season is upon us here, still 2.5' feet of ice so even with midweek's double digit temps that are due to stretch into next week, we should be good for ice for a couple of weeks and hopefully able to ride out to some crappie holes when walleye closes. We went to the mouth of a creek last night, loads of fish around, males and females, finicky bite but plenty of action.
