  1. Hi all, with the laborious initial 2hr break in under the belt it did not take long to get the next 8hrs on the new Merc. The sliming got better the last few days as I hit up the trout lake at our local Provincial Park where we have been tent camping the last couple of nights. The lake trout have been fussy but got a few, the bass have also been fussy, but got a few, and the walleye have been fussy as well…. sigh… but have had 3x26”, 1x 28” and a chunky 29”er with a couple small ones thrown in during two crack of dawn sessions.
  2. I should read more… lol. Thanks for that, very interesting.
  3. Hi all, After three weeks of ‘tough’ fishing and weather here on Lake Wabigoon things have started to settle down and pick up. Surface temps on the main lake finally hit the 60sF mark around midweek and with it the walleyes hit the humps and my baits. Did some hump hopping for a couple hours the other day and every spot had hungry fish, strangely no slots or overs but after weeks of ‘one fish here, one fish there and move’ it was fun do get some numbers action. The boys and girls in the Dryden Walleye Masters will have zero problems getting their unders today!
  4. Have to agree about Lakemaster being dangerous. I guided some guys last year who had the Lakemaster chart for Wabigoon Lake here in NW Ontario, so many of the hazards were missing, I literally took them to some hazards I know are ther and showed them it was not marked, removed their chip and inserted my Navionics and there it was… clear as day, they were pissed!
  5. Hi all, My old small chest freezer quit on me year before last and I found a new one for $50 this spring and decided to upgrade my old system, once again Youtube was my hero. This time I have a temp controlled switch to keep the water at a constant temp, and a neat filter system that also acts as an aerator. The submersible 425GPH pump in the tank draws water up into 5 gallon bucket filled with filter medium and gravity discharges back into the tank via a spray bar(aeration). I'm am not a technically gifted person so it took me ages, but varnish and silicone complete, all plumbing in place, tank seams sealed, new top insulation in place....should be able to give it a test run on Sunday....if this works it will be so cool...
  6. Go get 'em!
  7. Hi all, Got out with a buddy to do a bit more exploring before walleye opens here on Wabigoon Lake, got into some bass, a few pike and a couple of crappie. Surface temps have risen a fair bit in a week, hovering around 48 - 50F on the main lake and in a few shallow channels we saw up to 57F. Bass were in the shallow bays in the warm muddy waters and a few shallow rock flats, very aggressive, pike are probably just about done spawning in the shallow weedy bays and the crappie we found were down in and suspended over 27'FOW.
  8. Yeah, the video is not new, and i'm sure seasoned musky guys like yourself have seen it all before, but I broke my last Thorn Bros double sided box which was gifted to me by some guys I guided and was in desperate need of immediate tackle storage, I guess because its 'musky tackle' I shouldn't have been surprised at the cost, but HOLYFREEKINGUACAMOLE BATMAN....$400??!!?? LOL...I'm good with hooks catching here and there, beats what I had before too.
  9. Hi all, gotta love YouTube, found a video that showed how to make a homemade musky tackle box and save myself $300! Basically 2 10’ lengths of pvc downspout from Rona, an Ozark 48 can cooler from Walmart and 15 minutes on the mitre saw. The product it produces comes in at Around C$115 and easily replaces the item below which comes in at anywhere between $390 and $450. here is the video link for anyone interested .
  10. Hi all, Got out for the first boat outing this year, surface temps hovering around 40F. Looking in vain for crappie but we found some decent bass, a ton of hammer handle pike and the motherload of Rock Bass and Perch in one hole in 30'FOW(weird, never caught so many rock bass, even double headers.)

  13. I get a three week break here, usually get a large(ish) project finished every year.
  14. Lol… I don’t get it.
  15. Hi all, Got to our spot around 5pm, usually pick up a couple of whitefish and the odd walleye and pike before the bite turns on but it wasn’t until 7:20pm when the switch got flicked. We didn’t even mark a single fish before that, was getting worried… lol. Once they turned on it was non stop bites.
  16. Couple more weeks of safe ice, gotta make the most of it right?

  18. Hi all, walleye bite went nuts from 7pm for 45 minutes. must've got 20 or so between the two of us....nice evening too .
  19. Hey Rick, hope all is well, been a while!
  20. The jig feature is amazing, especially if you have the iPilot Link. I’m going for a Crestliner Hawk 1750 with a 115hp, side console. It’s a new model starting this year, I was thinking about a Lund Adventure Sport which has a really nice layout too, but have decided to go welded.
  21. Gotta say I’m jealous of anyone in a boat, winter is long and I’m getting a new boat this year.
  22. Hi all, we have been making ice the last couple weeks, not too far off 'normal' ice thickness for this time of year despite the insanely mild winter, should be a normal(ish) ice out, maybe a bit earlier than the 1st week of May. Took advantage of the extra daylight hours and headed out on Wabigoon yesterday for an hour , supper was great!
  23. Good point.
  24. You might convince a new one?
