My buddy is a guide for a camp, he has the ground blinds and tree stands all set. Couple of big bucks have been through the area…hoping!

  2. All braid is the same, make sure you use wire though.
  3. Thanks for the input guys. Think i'm gonna have a look at each of the brands mentioned and their availability to me here in the dead zone and spool up four different and increasing strengths from 40lb-80lb strength of braid. I have not ruled out upgrading my gear and going heavier. Anyway, if its like the last years trip I will only get out a couple of times. I wanna stand half a chance of reeling something in this time. I have the headstrap for my Gopro so should get more fishing footage this time round. Thanks for the input again…... Did I mention I will be using wire?
  4. LOL…ok…here goes…AGAIN………..I WILL BE USING WIRE!!!
  5. Guys…LOL…please. I need braid because of the line diameter to breaking strength given I don't have a giant sea fishing reel. I actually prefer to stay as light as possible anyway. Mono is not an option. I am not concerned about the teeth, I stated already I will be using wire leader, this will not shred at all and will hold up to the smaller cuda and white tip reef sharks that frequent the bay (last time I was there a guy had even landed a small thresher shark right next to me). I know braid is not as resistant to abrasion as mono. However, in my circumstances I need to use braid for the reason mentioned above. Another reason for staying light is I will be chucking lures not more than 1 oz in weight. I know these lures work as the first three I sent out last time I was there were munched immediately but my 20lb braid was not enough for the job, I was neither bit off or cut off on rocks, straight weight of the fish, each time. Lost those three lures and they did not want to touch anything else i had, even bigger lures. I really only want to know which out of all the braids is the most abrasion resistant, if they are all the same so be it, but some seem to say they are more resistant….is this truth or marketing., and if its true which is the best of the better….lol that make sense?
  6. Ok, I know braid is never going to be as resistant as mono, but is there one that is better than others? When you guys talk about a leader/tippet…how long are we talking? cuz I am already planning on using a wire leader for shark and barracuda purposes.
  7. Hi all, I need to know what the best casting braid would be in the 50lb-100lb range. Abrasion resistance is also very important as there will be sharp rock and sea coral present. I will be using a Shimano AERO GTE 5000B reel(carp baitrunner) which does not have a huge spool, so line diameter is why i'm going with braid/wire trace. Thanks in advance.
  8. Sorry to hear Beans, mend quick and well! As for the glasses thing we are in reverse, I'm just getting used to not being able to see up close and realizing how much I took for granted for 47 years!
  9. LOL…he is a good pup, i grow fonder of him daily, he has really turned into my dog, he likes my wife and jack, but he sits at the door whipping in anticipation of me for about an hour every evening before I come home. There has been a few wet flurries here, but nothing like the sudbury guys got the other week, but the small ponds here have a skim….not long now. Thanks Brian, with the ice approaching soon it might just be a 'blast and blast' report next. Thanks Chad, my poor knees were shot to hell by the end of the day, more glucosamine me thinks! Yeah, would hate to be shot at. I heard a lot of moose calls in the area that day, thinking it was hunters rather than moose making the racket though. Some pretty close by too. I am blessed with some good shore fishing, but the walleye have started to slow down now, soon be going after trout and whities. Thanks Beans, OUCH! what did you have done?
  10. Hi all, Not had the boat out at all since beginning of September, just been sticking to local shore spots. The fishing has been great though and no need to get the boat out really. Been enjoying the exercise too, as has my pup and loyal buddy Roloff (loyal buddies seem rare these days in my experience). Went back to a spot we visited on the ice last winter with my wife and son. Last winter we started to build a 'fort' there and my son was anxious to finish the project. The lake is stocked with splake. I did not catch any on the ice so decided to bring a rod and try from shore while we built Jack's fort. We got the fort built and got supper and I guess my new personal best Splake, as I had never caught one before. They were all small , but very….very…tasty! Bobbers with a split shot and single hooked live minnow and black fury mepps worked good. THE HIKE IN GOOD FUN AND EXERCISE FOR EVERYONE GOT THE FORT BUILT SMILES ALL ROUND AND GOT SUPPER OUT OF THE DEAL TOO! I the video I took that day was not very good quality, but I went back yesterday with Roloff while the family was at work and school, this time armed with my Gopro and more time dedicate to fishing. YESTERDAY AT THE SAME LAKE (select HD In youtube) I have also been hitting up a shore mark a bit closer to home, lots of video of this place already, but always a fun spot to try, last week got an hour in on Thursday morning, its slowing down a bit for walleye, perch have been on fire, but they are wormy, anyway, not bad for an hour and got to have a fish fry at work on Saturday which the staff and clients appreciate! HOUR SHIFT FROM SHORE The smaller ponds were all iced over yesterday, even some shallower larger lakes had a shore to shore skim. Not long now before the dreaded soft water to ice transition period. At least this year I can spend the 2 week period shooting birds.

  14. I think then you have to look at the big picture, otherwise its just individuals looking out for their own (selfish)interests. Seems like these days its " well he aint going to stop netting fish so I'm don't see why I should stop catching 4……Its what I call a race to the bottom, ON YER MARKS……GET SET………..
