  1. I actually find it difficult to believe that that was the FIRST time ever in my life I have had a hook in me! I was watching it closely that day and evening, Ive seen how septicemia can happen quickly and have terrible and/or fatal consequences, luckily it was fine. Someone did tell me you have to be careful ripping them out like that because you can rip tendons or cause nerve damage. LOL, as for the language I I tend to automatically tone it down when I'm filming, but rest assured there were some expletives floating inside my cranium. As for the weather...hmmmmm, it was sunny but still very cold for this time of year, only around 7C, but with the wind felt chillier. Still going below zero some nights here, I was on Wabigoon yesterday and some places were only 44F on the surface, bloody chilly mate!
  2. lol...good to know I'm not alone in my feeling. I find it difficult to understand how these big box stores with their purchasing power fail to pass on any of the savings to consumers, my local tackle stores are a bit pricey but by the time you add on shipping its pretty much the same, plus, with some of the local stores, and I stress 'SOME' you get personal customer service.
  3. They are not wormy in every lake as you say Rick, but the lake I was on in the video they certainly are and the ones on the Goon are 50/50 in my experience. We ate some last year when we did shore lunch at Lac Seul, worm free and delicious, but when I am at lac Seul there is an ABUNDANCE of walleye...so I don't tend to keep or need to keep any bass.
  4. Hi all, just wondering what others think. I have been on Cabelas email mailing list for years now, have bought big ticket items from there in the past so they have my details. For years now though, everytime I open one of their newsletters announcing a 'sale' it seems like they are just selling off crap that nobody buys anyway ( try finding your size in any apparel they have on sale, always only have Small or 4XL) and the stuff i would buy remains very expensive even on sale. I appreciate having a Cabelas in Winnipeg just because of the stock, but even trips to the store leave me feeling underwhelmed. When Canadian Tire or say Princess Auto have a sale, there are always a few items that are super cheap and useful. Anyway, I finally decided that Cabelas newsletters were junk...UNSUBSCRIBED.
  5. Thanks, yeah, its lucky it is, the 5 weeks between walleye close/open is a lot easier to take this way.
  6. Yessir, you must be slamming off your rock on the river now too....no? Maybe what Rick says, I'll eat bass, tastes ok, however, most of the bass Ive caught here are very wormy, they have those grubs in the flesh, not just a few, but LOADS....I don't bother killing any now just to find out its full off worms and not fit for consumption. Unfortunately for my lake the local camp sends all their clients to one of the 'finger' lakes of Wabigoon, and i'm assuming most are American and they keep all the bass....needless to say the bass fishing has declined markedly in the 10 years I've fished it.
  7. Hey guys and gals, Here is the complete video of my little session the other day, the clip with the hook in hand is in there too.
  8. LOL....the stuff you say off the cuff eh? I'll see how it goes by morning, my hand is kin da fizzing, hoping I aint damage nerves...that would be well, boring. LOL....Chuck Norris styleeee!
  9. Hi all, Went out for bass for a couple hours this afternoon, managed to get a jig in my hand trying to lip hold a fish, jig went all the way in up to the lead head almost, no way I was going on the local hospitals 'Wall of Shame'....basically a picture/cabinet with all the hooks removed from local fishermen......if yer squeamish don't watch....lol. PS...whole video on the way, great little smallmouth sesh.
  10. I use those lb tests too but in the Berkeley Vanish Transition, same knot to the bait as you Chris, i just use a micro barrel swivel to the main line, again with the improved clinch knot, been using this stuff for at least 8 years know, handles everything in my experience and takes a pounding some days.
  11. Hi all, got the boat out tonight for a couple hours, chance to cast for pike and fly the drone, forgot to press record for most of the shots....doh....but managed to try a prototype video intro with the footage I did get, waddayathink?
  12. Hi all, not getting much fishing done at the moment, between work and family, swapping from 12v to 24v for my new Ulterra with iPilot-Link and installing all the wiring ethernet cables and GPS puck etc...etc...etc is taking all my spare time. Made about 4 trillion trips to Canadian Tire and even as far as Kenora to get bits I never knew I needed and some I did know. To keep all the wiring neat and out of sight meant I had to basically back engineer a lot of the decks and compartments, but it will be worth the effort. Some of the hiccups along the way were needing the ethernet adapter AS EC QDE for my Helix 9 to connect it to the motor, getting another power cable PC10 for my Helix 5 so as not to have take the one of my ice fishing set up, jerry rigging my quick release bracket from my Terrova so I cleared the gunwale, basically its not as easily releasable now as i put 2 screws in the back of it to be safe (this thing weighs 70lbs!!!). Also finding 8 gauge wire was almost impossible in this small town, even most of the dealerships that sell boats did not have any, it took a whole afternoon in town to finally find some....sheesh. I still have to work out where to put the GPS Heading puck for the iPilot, can't be near ferrous metals, heavy wiring etc...etc...as there is not a lot of real estate on my little barge, its proving kinda tricky, trial and error I guess, luckily it only gets connected to the battery so swapping it around should be a doddle. Bought a bunch of Ram Mounts for my gadgets, should look like the Starship Enterprise at the wheel now...lol, not quite as fancy as some of the consoles you see, but compared to my old boat it feels vey flashy to me, and more importantly everything is secured well at neatly within reach, won't have to move an inch this summer, will be 250lbs by August for sure! GETTING THERE! I forgot to mention that its also taking a long time because of frequent breaks to the bottom of the yard to try for ice out pike, not been as great this year but there are a few around. So, i need to get my arse in gear and git'er done, because at the moment this is my reality.....lol.
  13. LOL, the beginning of the show is like an eHarmony testimonial.
  14. THANKS! Hopefully soon Rick, if I don't get called to work today my plan is to have the boat ready by the end of the day! LOOKOUT CRAPPIE AND BASS! Thanks man! I'm screwed, mosquitos are animals. Thanks for the vote of confidence Wayne, you no doubt are very familiar with my new found perspective on the world! I'm gonna bore the heck outta ya....lol. Thanks, we had ice out for a week then ICE IN...lol. Weather is settling now, no more ice till fall.
  15. same here, only the boat is a year old, gotta get her rigged with a new trolling motor, swap system to 24V from 12V, add some ram mounts for electronics etc...etc. Weather has been a factor or she would be on the water now hunting crappie. I'll probably end up working long weekend (my choice) but I can fish anytime easily and prefer to wait till its over most years and avoid the crowds by going out Tuesday morning.
  16. Hi all, sat down by the lake yesterday evening casting giant minnows for ice out pike, not a single bite, but very relaxing.
  17. Hi all, It finally stopped snowing and the wind dropped below hurricane force so I took a few pics from my drone at sunrise. I have a lot to learn and the pics are not my best but i'm still learning to fly it safely and have not got round to messing with camera settings or got used to taking well composed shots from a completely new perspective. This drone is awesome, gonna make some cool videos this summer for sure.
  18. Finally got to fly my drone today....awesome is an understatement!

  19. I use a baseball hat and my Nigerian heritage, works good.
  20. So, I have decided to keep my 2 bank charger in place, and use a C-TEK Multi US 3300 battery maintainer for the cranking battery. I also already have 2 Noco genius GB40 Jump Starters , one of which I will keep in the boat, heck, I'll bring them both since my snow machine is not needed now, they are great and managed to start my small truck from a completely drained battery.
  21. Thanks for all the replies, it all helped answer my questions. Thanks Bassman11, you reminded me I have 2 of those portable Lithium jump start thingies which I bought last fall for the purpose of having in the boat, with that there I won't be getting a 3 bank charger and just use the 2 bank that i have. I was also looking at the Noco from CT, but $350 when I have other options is too much, will spend that money on 2 new batteries. NOW...WHAT BATTERIES.......lol.
