  1. THis is the thread from April 2011. Same responses. lol. http://www.ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=53068 So far Corvette is the only one to mention walleye with them. I don't much care for bass. Up here you can probably catch smallies with a popsicle stick or even a marshmallow.
  2. Kind of a joke. Not the being drunk out on the water part (that is dangerous) but actually laying a charge? Why not take the booze, and make him walk the shoreline back home. NOt like he was miles away from where he started? Ever tried to peddal when your drunk? Takes more coordination then you think lol.
  3. Looks like a good trip Geoff. Freaky looking ocean fish.........hmmmmmmmm? Luclkily not in the derby.
  4. As long as it reads you the depth in #s you're good to go. Doesn't matter to much about the pixels with that old of a unit. Techology has improoved leaps and bouds since then. When there is a drastic rise or fall in the depth # then you know there is some structure.
  5. GIMICK!
  6. Dana, It will help you find the drop offs and under water structure and that is all you need for finding fish up here.
  7. Tooo many Sauger in Big Abitibi if you ever head North. There just may be as many Sauger there as Mooneye and Walleye. They can get up to 3 lbs. in Abitibi as no one keps them do to them being so old and Mercury (heavy metals) content
  8. I have googled Scandia Inn and James Lake (Northern Ontario) and there is not much about them. Anyone know why it closed? My little brother attended a friend's b-day supper there about 25 years ago.
  9. I used 1/2 can at the beginning of the season into about 80 litres of gas. I add a bit more when I refil. I like to keep it above 1/4 because I'm out on the big lake. Ask Randy from Sturgeon about Sea-Foam I think he drinks the stuff.
  10. The lakes that are open for Aurora Trout rotate on a 3 year cycle. Open for one then closed for 2. Check out T.J.'s thread on Aurora Trout from this past spring. Wynn Lake in Esker Park just East of Kirkland Lake is a great opportunity for an Aurora. Only open every 3 years but guys have success there with small spinners like Mepps and Panther Martin and a piece of worm. Anyone wanting to plan a trip there in 2013 let me know and I will make arrangements. Free lodging.
  11. I'll have to join you on one of these adventures.
  12. Thanks to everyone for your kind replies. I know this is a fishing community forum but there is no place like OFC for the community response. I thank you all.
  13. After posting last night on Wiser's thread about my grandpa living out his last days...he died peacefully in his sleep at 2am this morning. He was 97 years old. Earl Rupert Duffield born March 25, 1914 - Not an ordinary Grandpa. My mother left my father in 1980 taking us 3 boys with her from B.C. to Kirkland Lake, Ontario. My Grandpa immediately stepped up and took on the "fathering role" He taught my little brother how to ride a bike the 1st summer we were there. He taght us all how to hunt, fish, drive, and how to be a man. Not sure how many hockey skates he tied lol. He NEVER drank or smoked a day in his life. He was a tough man that didn't complain. I have only seen him cry once, when my Grandma died 5 years ago. He continued to live independantly, drive, and joined his hunting group every fall until he was 95. He landed my P.B. walleye (9 lbs.) without a net and I will never forget that day. I have a great picture I will scan and post later. Just wanted to share with you all. I will celebrate his life and miss him every single day. Mercman, My boat will will have E.R.D. 97 added on with vinyl graphics as soon as I am back in town.
  14. Awesome story but hurts a bit for me. My Grandpa is 97 and living his last days out in a hospital bed. Good on you for taking him out on the water.
  15. I agree Wayne. We have gone under the bridge at dusk when the lights come on and cleaned up on the walleye. One year I brought a 10' Peterborough boat with me and never got it wet.
  16. Trim is still being worked on but no issues runing it. I hit 38.1 MPH in the chop with my 8 year old in the boat. I can hit 43 MPH whent the trim holds and the water is flat so not to bad. Let's get out in my little boat on one of your secret lakes. Like I told you before any time you want to use it come pick it up. Take my 4hp or my electric.
  17. Good job R.C. Although looking for lakers and finding smallies doesn't seem like a reward to me. More like a consolation lol.
  18. Lots of hours pays off. You have caught some stellar fish so far this year.
  19. Lots of musky guys out on the lake. Been a slower then normal year so far. Ya water temps are HIGH. 78F in most bays where water was less then 4'. I went all over the west end looking for muskie and had no luck. THe guide I was with (not guiding) has been on the lake 9 years and mainly fishes Callander Bay and South Shore but has recently expanded into the west arm area to target the greater #s of muskie and fewer anglers.
  20. If that doesn't pan out for you I have an old Eagle fish finder sitting in my garage you can have.
  21. For those who are not aware of the regs. Not directed at O.P. or any contributers to this thread. Just F.Y.I. Catch and Possession Limits – The catch limit is the number of fish you are allowed to catch and keep in one day and includes fish that are not immediately released and any fish eaten or given away. The possession limit is the number you are allowed to have in your possession on hand, in cold storage, in transit, or anywhere. Possession limits are the same as one day’s catch limit except where otherwise specified.
  22. Works for us in Callander Bay but have to be crawling along at about .5 mph.
  23. How many ounces is that egg sinker? Looks like you are dropping it straight down then trolling with your electric? Does that big sinker ever get caught up in the structure?
  24. Paul, Did you fart?
  25. Not a rod builder but too much hummidity? Put it infront of a fan or de-humidifier.
