I used to start my 1986 Mariner 40hp with the pull rope all the time.

I know you can pull a trailer into Grundy Lake P.P. but don't know of any private parks that way. When gas went up 2 summers ago (maybe 3 now) allot of people sold there trailers and big trucks and bought park models or permanent sites for there trailers. I think there are 92 seasonals in our park. If I am not bringing my boat to the park we can go camping in our Ford Focus.

They could fly-in and land on your lake?

I know of a few parks around Alban on the French but they are stuck between sets of rapids (like you don't want). Our park is on Nipissing in Sturgeon Falls. I have lots of water to explore and can go down the French as far as Chaudierre Dam (hydro dam) . 46 names on the waiting list to our park. However there are some camps with open spots on South Shore or better yet buy a trailer already on a site. That's what we did. Vance did you look in the Sturgeon Falls area? The Mattawa and Ottawa rivers are a nice area. I have a buddy that guides there for huge Northerns. Let me and Rod Caster know when you get there and we will come join you one day for a fish.

My appolgies to everyone involved in the trip. I am used to guides NOT fishing. So I was thinking a 2 person limt. I have P.M.'d Paul with an apology. I am not like that. It was past midnight and I was exhausted (horseshoe tournament and lots of beverages). I should have never questioned it on a public forum. Sorry to Musky Mike as well. It was a beauty fish Paul and matches my PB which I caught when I was a teenager. Lesson learned it will never happen again. Again very sorry. Blair

Edited this post because I was out of line. My appologies Paul.

South Shore Ice Condos for staying on the ice on NIp. Howevver for the best fishing I would book with Rob Hyatt. Best operator on the lake. He moves his huts to where the fish are and he is a great host. P.M. me if you want any other info and watch for the Lake Nipissing gtg planned for this winter. Last year was fun but this year will be better.

What exactly is a good sized rock bass?
-
Wow Rod Caster said the rock bass stunk up his condo. My largie just stunk up my kitchen.

Another politically themed thread eh Simon? You really have to get out and do some fishing.

I can ride my quad (4-wheeler) with my gun in a gun boot or in my front grips as long as it is not loaded. Ammo is always on me. 100% legal but not on city streets.

Nice Paul. I am currently in the same situation with a North Bay guide named Danny Colomby. Dan has already made a pretty good name for himself with big time muskie guys like Marc Thorpe, Pete Mania, and Larry Ramsell. Even though he has a policy about not taking locals out to his good spots (for fear they will be over-run through word of mouth) I have been out with him twice as a friend. We have yet to land a muskie, and I will reward him when I do land one, the knowledge he has shared is priceless. He is a great entertainer when on the water with talk of muskie, his strategies, history of the area, and fish stories. I feel amazed to call him my friend. Feel free to check out his website included in my signature. I am not pushing his guiding service in this thread but check it out for his excellent gallery of muskie, pike, and alternate species pictures, most of which came from Nipissing. I would be more then willing to reccomend him or join a charter with another member one day. Danny is also a very talented musician. He plays in a band and writes music for television shows.

I am going back out on the lake tomorrow morning for 5am. We are trying a specific area for the second time at sun up. No luck last time but her's hoping for tomorrow.

Flesh was firm as pike. A little more reddish in colour but still looked like fish. I'll let you all know how it tastes tomorrow.
-
tres cool.
-
I am guessing you googled it?

O.K. I'll give it a go. Thanks guys. I'll try the batter and pan fry method 1st and save the fancy stuff for when I'm trying to impress someone.

Just curious if anyone eats LMB and how they cook them? I have had SMB quite a bit but Rod Caster was surprised when I said I would keep the largie. Stunk when I filleted it, will it taste good with a little fish crisp?

Got a late start tonight with family obligations; but at 5:45 we were heading out of the driveway with the boat loaded. We got to the Nosbonsing launch near Astorville at 6:15. There was a big Lund getting ready to land. As we readied the boat we wondered what was taking so long so, we went to see. The driver of the truck had backed off the side of the ramp and into a deep hole. He now had the boat on (I said it was a big HEAVY Lund) and could not pull it up out of the hole. He tried pulling and backing up. It would not move. We tried pushing the boat off the trailer but is was up out of the water too far. As he hammered it in reverse to back it up, to launch the boat again the trailer collapsed like and aluminum can. Never seen anything like it. We eventually got the boat off the now wrecked trailer and he drove the boat home? He lived on the lake. While his buddy pulled his messed up trailer out. We launched my boat at 6:45 and for some reason could not start my Yam 90hp? My 2 year old was playing around in the boat this afternoon and must have done something. It had lots of juice but would not turn over. WE waited, in case it was flooded and still no go. So we took off with the Wireles 55 trolling motor. Just a little ways down the lake we found a nice drop off close to some weeds. Action was good for the next 2 hours. It poured rain, drizzeled and was o.k. at times. We were prepared for the rain so no biggy. I was first up and put a perch and 2 sunfish in the boat before Rod Caster knew what was happening. Then he showed me up with a hammer-handle pike. Then I got a 14.5" large mouth. After that, he put on a walleye clinic with a cat fish and a rock bass mixed in for fun. In 2 hours, in the rain, with only a trolling motor, we landed about 10 fish with some lost ones too. When we landed the boat at dark we were sure to avoid the black hole. A quick beer at my place after parking the boat and we called it a night. R.C. took some pictures of the trailer and my bass maybe he will post them. ***** I checked over the motor today after charging the battery. My boat does not have electronic choke (not hooked up) so I rely on the manual choke. Well, the lever was disconected from the cable inside so the motor was never choked. It started on the second tun of the key today. **********

Hey, I'm in the same boat as you . Well a bit bigger. I just started this year and I have been out twice throwing big baits for over 10 hours now with only a bass follow.
-
Sure. I have an empty seat in my boat. Meet me at my place for 5:30 and we will try Nosbonsing.

I grew up on the other side (British Columbia) and looking at the Rockies never grows old. I drove to Alberta in 1998 and stayed in Banff. The highlight of that trip was a visit at Bow Lake. Standing on the dock you could toss a shiny coin (nickel, dime, quarter) into the lake and watch it sink to the bottom which was something like 20 feet. That blue water od Lake Louise reminded me of that. Thanks. Great report.

You know I would fish with you any day Randy.
