Brian....another awesome report! I've enjoyed reading your tournament reports this year....you spent a lot of time preparing and did pretty well I might add. I'll have to join the line of people when I say I'll miss these reports....they give me a little taste of what those tourneys are all about....I like that you talked about not just the fishing results and tactics, but also about the great people you've met and learned from along the way. Glad to see you and Terry had a great time out there, despite the unplanned bath!! LOL.

Thanks everyone! We are pretty excited...just need that trailer! We've had lots of people looking out for us and I'm hoping that I can go and pick that boat up this weekend. I've noticed a few themes emerging from this thread so far so I thought I'd comment on them.... 1) We will NOT give up shore fishing. Most of our fishing is done during the week and we only have 2 hours....so the boat will be a weekend thing for us. 2) Thanks everyone for the "leave some fish in the lakes" for us comments...but quite honestly, we SUCK at fishing from a boat....just ask Fishnsled....LOL. 3) We are going to concentrate more on exploring lakes at first, to get an idea of what's there and how to catch them, so we are NOT expecting success right off the bat. It took us a lot of hours and work to find shore spots and then catch the fish....we expect the same kind of work with a boat. 4) "Break out another thousand" - LOL...love that acronym. We'll spend a little at first...then once we have an idea of how to make fishing in it more comfortable, then the thousand will come out I'm sure....haha. 5) I plan on getting a full tune up before taking it out anywhere....and also practising backing up in a parking lot....all great advice...thanks! Spiel...would have been great to chat again....maybe next time! Thanks again everyone...had LOTS of support from the board in this purchase. We'll try to take it out at least once this fall before winterizing it....until then, it'll kill me to see it all winter long waiting for the ice to melt.

Great report! Fishing with family is great...especially when there's some catching involved. Thanks for the pics and story...was interesting!

Nice video...I count it as landed as long as you touch it. I had my first ever steelhead do that to me last spring...I always have a net with me now. Looked like a good sized fish!

Sorry to hear about your Aunt Mike, but I'm glad you got out and had a little fun while in Ontario. Only 121 bucks...wow...that's pretty good....LOL. Quinte is getting closer and closer....will be great to finally meet you!

Well, after checking online classifed ads for the past month, we have finally purchased a used 14' fishing boat. We looked at countless ads, sorted through lots of PM's from fellow OFNers, went to see a few, even considered buying new, but at the end of the day, more debt and payments was the last thing we wanted to do. Anyhow, there was a boat that looked interesting in Hamilton, so I called Gerritt to see if he'd help us out because I have no idea what to look for or even ask with boats/motors. We met up with him at 1:30 this afternoon and everything checked out just fine.....well.....except for the trailer. I got the guy to agree to knock a few hundred off the asking price because I wasn't interested in the trailer. So, this is what $1300 bought for us!! Here are the specs.... - 1983 14 foot Mirrocraft Aluminum in good shape...no leaks. - 1983 18hp Mercury Motor - 3 bench seats with storage - Humminbird fish finder - 2 removable fishing seats - Bow and Stern lighting - Rod holders - Gas Tank - Boat Cover - Connector from the motor to trickle charge the battery Also, thrown in was the wiring to convert the motor to electric start (just needs the starter), a full tank of extra gas, complete manual for the motor (shows part by part diagrams and part numbers). This motor sat for 2 years without being started....it started after 5 pulls of the cord. Gerritt was pretty impressed with that. He checked some water to see if it was cloudy (I'm sure you all know what for, but I had no idea....LOL) and the motor seems to be in great condition. The trailer was not in any condition for me to take the boat home, so, I'm now in the market for a 14' boat trailer. Does anyone have one out there cheap?? I want to thank everyone who has offered their boats for sale, advice, forwarded boat classified ads, offers to come and check out boats with us etc..... So...thanks Gerritt, for coming out and helping us today....thanks to Fishnsled, Fishindevil, MTP, Percher, Pigeonfisher, TJ, Evster, Steve_Paul, GNoddy, Nipissing, Slowpoke, Kevin, hometownhandyman, Charlied, Metisfisherman and anyone else who has offered their boats or help. With a bit of luck we'll test her on the waters next weekend!!! It's not the prettiest boat, but it'll do us just fine out on the Kawarthas. Just need that trailer....hmm....details details!! Oh yeah...Fishnsled...I wont need you tomorrow to test out that other boat....thanks for the offer!!

Going to Hamilton in about a hour to look at a boat to buy!! Meeting Gerritt there at 1:30 this afternoon...with a bit of luck, we'll be boat owners and no longer shore locked. Going to Rice Lake tomorrow with my cousin to chase down some muskies or smallies. Sucks you are working Will....hopefully you get out tomorrow as planned. If I buy this boat today, then I'll cancel the appointment for tomorrow....so you can fish longer....LOL.

With the winds howling tonight, bly and I decided to hit the mouth of a local trib, where it's nice and protected from the huge gusts we were getting at home. Armed with skien and tied roe bags, we headed off at around 8pm, set up our rods and began fishing for those beautiful early Steelhead that we heard were in the area. After 2 hours of nothing but a few missed hits, I finally hook a fish! It started out fighting like a Steelie...and I was pretty excited!! Suddenly, the thing peeled TONS of drag and I had a hard time keeping it under control. At one point it swam right at me, so I was reeling like a madman trying to make sure I didn't lose this fish. Well, as it got closer for bly to net, I knew I had a PB weight. As it turned out, it beats my PB length by one inch and it's more than 2 pounds heavier than my old PB weight....coming in at 24.5 pounds!!! Wow...a night where we were getting ready for the big skunkaroo (we've had a lot of those lately...hence no reports....LOL), I got lucky with this big female Chinny.

Nice work! I dont mind the photoshopping myself...you can still see how big the fish is in relation to it's surroundings the way you've done it. Congrats on a successful quarter!

I'd bring some proof of your citizenship. I dont have a passport, so I give my drivers license (picture) and birth certificate.

I agree with Burt...we used to have assorted fish from the goldfish family and it's real easy for the ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels to become elevated....when this happens then you get that clouded mess. These levels can be elevated as well with over feeding. I use the Big Als water conditioner for their slime coat and the removal of chlorine, but other things if the water gets cloudy. Good luck!

Sorry...I have no info on launches, but be careful out there. This lake can get very rough in high winds....if you're not familiar with it, I'd think twice before heading out. Here's a story about American/Canadian mentality....and it's not meant to be derogatory in any way, shape or form. I'm only describing an actual situation that occured. I was visiting Bly in Michigan (while we were dating). We were in a hardware type store that also sold alcohol. As we are browsing, there is a rather loud ***BOOM*** I hear this, turn around and begin to say "Hey...wonder who....." I look and see no one in sight...Bly included. Then I look down and everyone in that store is face first on the floor. I go to finish my statement "Hey....wonder who just broke a fluorescent light bulb" Guess what....I was right...that's what happened....LOL. I cant even fathom why anyone would need this...but then again I was raised in the suburbs of Toronto.

There is an annual "Fishing for Tyler" fund raising event that takes place in February on Lake Simcoe that many OFNers participate in. Last winter I think there was an impromtu ice fishing mini-G2G on the Bay of Quinte.

I've been to other messageboards where there are so many subforums I have no idea where to even start. I like this format....if a post isn't fishing related then a NF is supposed to be put in your topic title anyways...that way I can choose not to read it if I decide to do so.

Wayne, I'd stay in a prospectors tent no problem. I'll even be a part of your pilot/test program by staying in it for say a week...and you wouldn't even have to pay me.... Seriously though, money is tight for us, so we usually camp. Cottages are generally out of the question for us, so for us to rent something like this, it would have be at discounted rate compared to a cottage. I could see us paying maybe $500 to $700 per week.....or maybe $300 for a Friday to Sunday deal.
