Damn close Glen and I meant to comment on Brian's thread that we'd better not boat together this year!

Looked like a LOT of fun lads....well except for that white crap!

It was brand new Mike. Leah just gave it to me for Christmas. I had it in my coat pocket and it WAS snapped up. Leah said her seat was wet, in the steel boat, and I unsnapped my pocket, got a piece of shop towel out of it and off we headed for the marina. When I bent over to tie up the boat....kerplunk!! Paid the local realestate guy, that scuba dives, $75 to retreive it. Unfortunately it turned itself on when the water got in...but pretty sure the memory card's still good...so still ahead of the diving bill anyhow. Will send it to Canon for repair estimate and in the mean time pick something else up to get by for now...for my landscape pictures.

Great report Mike! Thanks for posting it up and sharing your trip with your father.

2nd piece of misery... of 10 days of hell... was my $600 canon digital camera going swimming in 30FOW last Tuesday (15th) Morning! The few pics I have are on a Kodak disposable. First time I haven't taken my Canon AE-1 to the lake for back up!

fire ban lifted, just in time for long weekend
irishfield replied to walleyejigger's topic in General Discussion
Should never have been lifted. Temagami Region is still a tinder box. Moss crunches like Rice Crispies under your feet. Ban was only lifted to appease tourism and to show if the MNR can burn... so can everyone else. When we left Temagami a large forest fire was still raging thru the area of Half Way Lake Provincial Park (that had to be evacuated) North of Sudbury and another thru the Kettle Lake PPark area by Timmins, that was also evacuated. -
Black flies are FEAST'IVE ! and the Mosquitoes started last night in Temagami as well...... I swatted my eye glasses off into the lake, while fishing off the dock around 9:45pm...just to add to 10 days of hair pulling nonsense!

Doesn't have anything West of HWY 64 on it Roy. Scrolled around with it over the last few days. Well marked chart East of the hwy..Muskrat Bay etc..but nothing West of the Lodge that I can see.

Where to buy a used canoe (Kitchener / Waterloo)?
irishfield replied to rooster's topic in General Discussion
Scotts are nice and yes like many brands can be expensive. Leah bought her 16 foot Prospector at the mfg in New Liskeard as a scratch and dent and think she paid around $2 grand for it. 1/2 the price of the Langford she had looked at. -
My bags are packed and I'm ready to go...

Thanks everyone and CH go kill a squirrel or something! Have fun Phil....no shore lunches for ya when you get there and hopefully things don't change so that you can indeed get there. That Minnesota/Ontario fire is raging out of control. All the way up past Red Lake is also a total fire ban area. Check everything you can and Geary before heading out. -
8am...Mothers day winding down, truck is packed and ready to go. Stop to see Nipissing(Bernie) on the way up, in Powassan...lake by 1pm. All in the rain it looks like ..$($*%@ ...and not enough to put an end to this waaayyyy to early fire ban. I've still got stuff to burn from last year but guess I'll be haulin it off the island to the landfill instead.

Total fireban..all of Northwestern and now Northeastern Ontario..as of Thursday night. May 9, 2007 PROVINCE EXPANDS RESTRICTED FIRE ZONE TO NORTHEASTERN ONTARIO News Release SUDBURY ― The Ministry of Natural Resources is expanding the Restricted Fire Zone already in place for Northwestern Ontario to include Northeastern Ontario. Implementation of a Restricted Fire Zone is aimed at reducing the number of human-caused wildfires, especially brush and grass fires that are threatening people and property. The fire hazard is extreme because of prolonged dry conditions and strong winds. Effective at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007 until further notice, all open burning is banned outdoors. The restrictions apply to the Ministry of Natural Resources districts of Hearst, Kapuskasing, Cochrane, Timmins, Wawa, Chapleau, Kirkland Lake, Sudbury, North Bay, Sault Ste Marie and Manitoulin Island. The exception is the far north and south of the French River A Restricted Fire Zone remains in place in Northwestern Ontario in the districts of Red Lake, Kenora, Fort Frances, Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay and Nipigon. The exception is the far north and the northern part of Nipigon District. Please contact your local ministry office to see if your area is affected. Under the Restricted Fire Zone regulations, all burning permits are suspended and all open fires are prohibited. Campfires may be allowed at some organized campgrounds or parks that use approved fire pits and meet certain other criteria. Campers should check with the owners or operators first. Within the Restricted Fire Zone area, people can still use portable gas stoves for cooking and warmth but the public is asked to use extreme caution. Ministry fire staff and conservation officers will strictly enforce the ban on open burning. Note: Please see attached map for Restricted Fire Zone areas. Covers everything from the south side of Nipissing all the way North to Kesagami Lake.
