I own a 2012 Grand Cherokee with the 3.6 Pentastar and use it just the way you intend to use it. 90% city driving from Scarb to Markham roundtrip for work. the other 10% I tow a boat at 1800 lbs dry (1950-2000lbs wet, batteries, gear) during the summer. the 4x4 is a godsend in the winter and on those slippery launches. Performance on towing the boat is actually quite good!!! I have zero issues with power and passing with it. However, most of the GC's that come with the 3.6 Pentastar don't have the HD braking package. So in all cases of towing, be careful on the braking. Be mindful of your braking distance tolerances. The power has never been an issue. The Pentastar in the Grand Cherokee has been tuned to have a wider torque curve to get the most torque in the broadest rpm ranges. The pentastar shines in the upper RPM ranges thanks to the VVT system. Every instance that the Pentastar is in from the 300, Caravan, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, to the RAM is tuned differently. If you happen to get a Grand Cherokee with the tow package option I believe you get upgraded brakes (Heavy Duty Brakes) and the auto-levelling shocks in the rear. I don't regret getting the Pentastar at all, The fuel savings over the 5.7 hemi is nice. I will say that if at least 70% of my driving was highway I would've went with the 5.7 hemi. I hear great reviews of the MDS system (cylinder shutdown at cruising speeds). I'm currently getting 17-18mpg in the city and 19-21mpg on the highway when not towing. When I am towing, my highway mileage drops down to about 16-18mpg. I've already put 94,000+ kms on the jeep with no issues and she drives just like she did on delivery. Oh yea, a tip I gained from one of the Jeep Forums is to use the slapstick/auto-shift/tiptronic to keep the transmission from going into overdrive when towing. That transmission loves to hunt for the overdrive to get better fuel mileage but it hurts the towing performance. Hope my real world assessment helps!

One of my batteries just died but my boat runs a dual battery 12v setup. It has 27 group Marine deep cycle batteries. The one that died was the starting battery. However they are connected parallel with a battery selector. I normally run them in the "both" position on the battery selector. My question is can I replace the one battery with a non-deep cycle marine starting battery or do they need to be both 27 group deep cycles?

fyi, Walmart is now carrying 29 series Maxx EverStart DeepCycles for $109 Over the last 4 years; I had the Nautilus ones crap out on my just after a year. Both the Kirkland and EverStart deepcycles running great to this day. I keep them on the Ctek trickle charger when not in use

Sure... If it trips you just have to wait about 30 seconds and it will turn the circuit back on. No need to reach over to your circuit breaker and pressing the button.

Yup went to Princess Auto in Newmarket instead of NAPA this afternoon. They currently have; 6-24v 20amp Auto Reset Circuit Breaker 6-24v 30amp Auto Reset Circuit Breaker 6-24v 40amp Auto Reset Circuit Breaker 6-24v 50amp Auto Reset Circuit Breaker Just bought myself a pair of 50amps. They're rated to be used for 6-24v. Unfortunately I didn't see any manual reset ones. Oh, and they all cost $3.99 each. You can find them in the automotive electrical section.

You have a jeep... just put some AT's on there and when the winter hits you've got your 4x4. But by no means does that mean your the king of the road. I have a jeep and went with AT's and they run perfectly fine all year round. When winter or a good snow fall hits I air them down to 30psi and they work even better. Like everyone else says, if you have a dedicated set of summers and winters that is the best combo. AT is a good compromise which I went for. On another note, looks like you live in Richmond Hill and the Greater Toronto Area. These cities generally do a good job of a quick cleanup during the snowfalls.

ah, this thread is perfect. I just installed a 45lbs Motorguide bow mount trolling motor and I need to get a 50amp circuit breaker. Right now I have a 20amp installed in the boat and it kept tripping every time I used the max speed/thrust. Then read in the manual that I needed to use a 50amp breaker. Lesson learned, read the electrical/wiring portion of the manual. Might help prevent an electrical fire too. I'll be heading over to NAPA during my lunch break

Yup, I go to the lonely dock and I catch some buckets there too. I usually go after dinner with my little one to catch some fish there. Or you can drive up to the bridge and fish under the bridge to get some buckets there too.

Have you been to Emily Provincial Park? Its pretty close to you since your in Whitby. Emily is just outside of Peterborough. Love taking my family there. And I always take my boat and getting on Chemong and Pigeon since they're right there.

Your thinking about the SRT8 which has the exhaust in the middle and yes they are beasts. I believe the SRT8 has the 6.1L HEMI. There were limiteds that have the 5.7 HEMI

1000lbs? that's pretty light. You won't need a V8 for the that. Any of the 6cylinders should tow that with ease. Heck I have a 2008 Jeep Patriot (4x4) and I tow a 16' fiberglass bass boat with a 75hp Suzuki Outboard with ease and it only has a 2.4L 4cyl (172 hp / 165 ft-lbs). Mind you it doesn't tow like a 6 or 8 cylinder but it is rated to tow a max of 2000lbs

Lebron's decision just screwed over Clevland and Miami. Now Miami can't afford anyone decent to play with these 3. They may have the best 3some in the league but possibly the worst depth/bench in the league. One of these guys will get Lamar Odom'd and get shifted to the 2nd unit, and will most likely be Bosh. Bosh won't get the time in the world to make his own shots playing with these 2 as he did in Toronto. He'll have to settle for 2nd unit and/or 2nd chance points ala offensive boards.

... Just so everyone knows, I plan on registering the boat and the trailer legally. Bigbuck, are you sure I have to insure my boat if it's more then 10hp? Everything I've read/researched so far seems to say that it is not legally required. Regardless, I plan on adding it to my home insurance as a rider. Now I just have to call my auto insurance to see if there are any issues with me towing. Thanks everyone!
