  1. thought i'd ask here for opinions. looking to get an entry level dslr but have come across these mirrorless cameras. their form factor is attractive compared to the bulkier traditional dslrs but how do they compare? are they suitable for the types of shooting we outdoors people do, besides snapping pics of our catch? what are their pros and cons?
  2. hopefully not for 2 seasons. kid's only 18? let him develop in the AHL and let him go to any world class tournaments to represent sweden.
  3. ya that sub will work with any newish receiver you will buy. most receivers will have 'only' one channel out for the sub so you'll hook up to either the left or right input on the sub -- shouldn't matter which one.
  4. definately shop around and go used if you can. I bought my JBL sub off kijji for less than that and its a pretty good unit.
  5. sounds like your speakers will work provided they are the correct impedance. most receivers can accept speaker of 6-16 ohm impedance. your sub won't and you'll need a new one.
  6. show us a pic of how the speakers are connected at the source.. you said earlier that you only have one wire going from the receiver to the sub then the signal gets split out to each speaker at the sub? that's a little unusual and the bad news is you may or may not need speakers too.
  7. i wouldnt hesitate to buy used on kijii if you are looking to save a few dollars. some guys must have the latest and greatest and upgrade all the time. if you arent one of those guys you can find a decent deal.
  8. here's a typical modern receiver looking from the back. your devices (roku, blueray, gaming system, cable box) plug into hdmi slots across the top. you connect to the tv with the hdmi out. the subwoofer connects using the rca plug (just your typical red & white cable -- you only use a red or white as subwoofer signal is mono). the other speakers connect using either a banana plug that you plug in to the positive and negatives of each channel or speaker wire. whether or not your existing speakers will work will depend on their impedance (ohms) and if each channel or speaker has their own wire.
  9. that's a digital audio out on the tv. this would work if the receiver had a digital audio in, but it doesn't (or it is not on the pic). it also doesn't look like you have any other audio out on the tv. the 3.5mm to rca cable will propably not even fit on the tv end but if it does do not try to hook up your receiver this way, you may damage it. one of these dohickeys below will convert the digital audio out into an rca but you might as well save your pennies for a newer receiver and hook up everything the way i described in my first post or see if you can find a headphone jack like cliff described. this is just my opinion. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0053VKP8S the reason your surround receiver works right now with the cable box is because you have the red & yellow on the out of the cable box going into the input on the receiver.
  10. you;re gonna want a hdmi capable receiver sooner than later the way most people have it setup is all their devices connect to their surround receiver via hdmi then one hdmi cable to the tv. the receiver handles the switching between devices. i'm surprised you get anything out of your rear speakers the way you have it (if i am understanding it right -- devices into the tv via hdmi then tv to receiver with rca left and right for the audio) and i suspect it's just a copy of your front left and right coming out of the rear, not real surround. the old way of 5.1 surround sound before hdmi was with 5 (or 6 if you have a sub) cables, one for each channel (the two fronts, front center and the two rear channels).
  11. Cool vid guy has skills for sure. Thats a tough track on dry pavement. Nordschleiffe hasnt hosted a f1 race since the 70s i believe. Too dangerous. It is where Niki Lauda crashed and burned. Would love to drive it one day. Here's another crazy video if you like to steer with the throttle
  12. maybe a forrester? it'll sit four comfortably and you already have a truck for hauling stuff. friends dont let friends drive mini-vans.
  13. step 1 - team building 101. someone needs to take a run at ovechkin tonight, and it shouldn't be komarov. the other stuff will sort itself out.
  14. I read that windex on lcds is a nono. Always used a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water with microfiber.
  15. Raf

    HDMI cable

Those electronic stores at dixie and matheson are pretty cheap for all things a/v. Pacific mall in the east end too. Ps you arent getting 1080p from any cable or satellite provider as nobody broadcasts in 1080p. Your tv upcoverts
  16. saw that coming during the wpg game. my guess is everyone knew it he's going to end up in the jets organization
  17. yup more options and improved tech whether it's gas, diesel or electric is never a bad thing.. let the consumer decide what suits him/her best. chrysler's propably reacting to gm's announcement of the diesel in the canyon/colorado. competition is good.
  18. straying off topic but v6 turbos are more than capable vs their v8 counterparts in the drag race game. remember the 80s grand national? it ran the 1/4 mile quicker than v8s of that time. cubes are nice but there's more than one way to make power.
  19. maybe but you gotta rev the snot out of that sowing machine. the previous gen gc diesel was quicker up to about 35 mph out of the hole than the v8. then the v8 took over.
  20. I dont disagree with a lot of what you said.. but funny thing about getting up to speed and merging, it's torque (along with gearing) that does it, and the v6 turbo diesel has more of it, across a lower and broader rpm range than the v8 hemi.
  21. Do you get a temp license for use until the real deal comes in?
  22. my card expired this year too. i want to get a new 3 year card and a 3 year license. in the old days, the card had a spot on the back where the license was imprinted (for lack of a better word). i want to avoid having multiple pieces of paper for each season, etc. i want one plastic card with the 3 year license branded on it. do i go through the website or go to a license issuer to do that.
  23. I don't see why not, they are both oil based and fluctuate with the price per barrell. Diesel demand fluctuates seasonally due to it also being used as heating oil. The links you provided illustrate the gaps summer vs winter.
