  1. if you want some good fishing for trout, pike, walleye, bass, perch and even maybe some catfish then come to sault ste. marie. theres tons of places to fish from shore with fish to be caught. and on the ontario/manitoba border, there are TONS of lakes like lake of the woods, among others! and the lake superior shoreline is really quite scenic. some of the highway past the sault going north is a little dangerous so keep an eye out. theres lots of wildlife to be seen in the area. the barries just started arriving up here so the bears wont be too much of a worry, though they are a little skinny from what i've seen. anyhow great opporunities up around this area for fishing and some very scenic places. Good luck and hope you have a great time!!
  2. ummm, i just use those clip on swivel deals and hook right onto the spinner... but other swivels, about 2-3 inches should be fine? but it also depends on what your going for too....
  3. i use the #3 black furry in echo bay all the time, i've caught some nice smallies on it and also a few that could just barely jam it in their mouths, and i too recommend a ball bearing swivel. good luck!
  4. haha, well when can i have a shot at some steel??
  5. oh i've caught a couple 20+lbs salmon outta the rapids last fall. but i dont really see how the not having waders is dangerous...?
  6. theres a problem right there, i dont have chest waiders but im not afraid to get into water up to my nuts either, lol thats how i get my brooks from the creeks. it does make it a little uncomfortable for the bike ride home though!
  7. LOL! but hey i gotta say there some nice eye' fishin in quebec though!
  8. lol well, i'd like to get into some steelhead too, what are some good methods that dont involve fly fishing around the locks??? actually a guy in a different forum told me this: "Try using a bottom bouncing setup with roe bags to catch the steelhead. Attach pencil lead suspended on a five-inch tag of line from a three-way swivel about 40 or 50 inches above your spawn sack. You need to use light line and cast out far to get good bites at the rapids this time of the year". is this a good way to catch em?
  9. my old man actually bought a rod combo from bass pro, im not sure what the reel is but its a 9 bearing system, the rod was a bass pro brand, and the combo cost about $109.50 and while we were laker fishing earlier this year he caught a snag and his drag was set pretty darn loose and the tip broke..... so now hes got a $10 6'6" fibreglass from crappy tire and he's been catching pike like crazy on that thing. and i've been helpin myself to it for whiteifsh and that thing is pretty darn amazing for me to feel them tiny little bites..... if you can call them bites. lol
  10. oohh haha, oh and are the kings around the same time as pacific?
  11. lol, i dont know what you mean about pixies or vague..... and ya the info. so far helped thanks.
  12. im lookin to get out to the local locks soon to catch some salmon, what time should i go to be able to catch them feeding and be able to bring a feed home of not half rotten fish?..... and what spoons and/or baits produce?
  13. actually i have caught 20+ pounders on 12lbs berkley big game monofilament line! not the smartest thing to do but all i did was cast out into the rapids with a spoon i dont really recommend that. good luck!
  14. wow now thats deep for bass!..... 187 FOW....
  15. i'm not really a musky fisherman, but pike is close enough? i've only targeted bass at balsam.
  16. well i've caught just about everything and lots of it on my $30 set up. its just a quantum IR-8 graphite rod and a quantum 3 bearing spinning open faced reel. OH and i've landed a few nice 20+ pound salmon on that thing, with 12 lbs berkley big game line. but ya that combo sounds good to me
  17. whenever i've been to balsam its never been windy and the water was always perfect...... but hey, maybe that lake just doesnt like you? lol.
  18. ha i caught a .5 pounder yesterday in about 7 feet
  19. i only had a bike a couple years ago too and i have found some great brookie creeks in sault ste. marie. in this town theres lots of creeks but a few will hold and impress, usually you gotta hike into the good holes (usually getting your feet wet). haha and some great canyons to walk through too! one of the best experiances i have had just hiking up west davington creek to a spring, very neat hike and rewarding! anyhow good luck! oh forgot to mention, if the creek is colder than that is great!
  20. thanks for the info. i have another question too, what type of plastics do you use when drop shotting?
  21. me too i've bought some great stuff over the internet before (F.T.A. sattelites and rods and reels). i probably do save alot that way.
  22. I pull stuff with my mini van all the time haha and it does surprisingly well!!!!! i take that thing through hell and back and its a champ, but the rads starting to leak . i've takin that thing up steep loose gravel hills with rocks everywhere (not small ones either), i just choose where i go thats all. and ya i wouldnt tow my boat with a smaller car like that i would deffinately use your truck! oh and did i meantion i do alot of exploring with my van in the bush of sault ste. mare?..... i know what it can handle, lol.
  23. you know what, i've never tried drop shotting but i've seen on t.v. it has great results, i got all the stuff, maybe i'll give that a go. one thing though, can you cast out and slowly retrieve or have ur line in one spot?
  24. oh man if u were at my house earlier i coulda' gave you some damn tastey whitefish, i had one left but my mistake i packaged 2 fillets together and i couldn't eat the second one, so i threw it out.... kinda pained me to do so but any i just did them in flour (with pepper), dipped it in egg and then into italian bread crumbs with romano cheese and various spices and fried up in a cast iron pan with canola oil and butter. it was soooooo good! and by the way im pretty sure the whities around the locks are still a little slow.
  25. ya i think im gunna go fish the st. mary's in the next couple of days, (just around the locks though from one of the piers) and see if i cant catch any, looks like some great structure in the water rocks everywhere, drop offs and weeds. oh and i'll be tube jigging..... im gunna give a twister tail a try too, does anyone know how good those are for smallies????
