Well most of my 'eye fishin will be in the st. mary's river right off a few piers at the soo locks, where there's some fast current. From what i hear the guys there are doing good with 4-5 pounders, using twister tails. However i will be taking a trip up north between whiteriver and wawa at the end of the month for some pike and walleye. Maybe smallies too.

thanks

going to whitman lake on sunday, anyone ever been? we're fishing for specks (brookies). i would like some suggestions on an assortment of tackle. for example: cleos, mepps, plain worm and hook? thanks, JP

last year i had a 20 lbs king hit my 5 of diamonds spoon in the rapids but the funny thing is i was trying to un-hook it, i thought it was snagged but when i followed the line it turns out the thing spit it outta' its gills! made for a great dinner!

-
thanks, but this may be a stupid question, are they easy to spool... i've never owned a bait caster
-
hey... right now im looking at an $80 Abu Garcia bait casting reel, does anyone know how these reels perform? and any suggestions for other bait casting reels? (around $100)

well this water isnt very fast at where i was fishing and the minnows that were being feasted on were pretty small i actually just got some great advice, get a cleo take off the treble put a 5" stinger hook on tipped with a worm.
-
lol thanks for the advice, but i'm not complaining. im sure that if i actually went to get a walleye or 2, instead of steelhead and whitefish then it wouldn't have been too bad.
-
i was at the soo locks today and tried for some steelhead off the western pier. there was lots of nice ones terrorising the minnows but every time i threw a cleo in they'd either follow or look and turn away. i even threw in a teardrop but they seemed more focused on the live ones. how do i get the damn things to bite?
-
well today i caught a goby(killed it), a small bass and a decent perch all on a tear drop goin for whitefish... it seems the whities have moved out though. but tons of nice steelhead terrorising the minnows, mind you i never caught but had lots of follow ups on a cleo.... oh and i didnt get around to the 'eyes today, i was too busy tryin to catch a damn steelhead, but i couldnt get them to hit.

okay, tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and warm, im heading out for some 'eyes and whities tomorrow morning... would it be wrong to fish with a bright sun and no clouds? or is that good?..... i've only had 'eye success in the evenings i dont fish for walleye to often..... OR is it good to go as the sun is comming up? any advice would be great!

great report! but the blue tinge on some of them 'eyes makes me wonder.... -
hey Gavin, wheres the best place to put a tent trailer around aubrey lake?
-
well i say troll with maybe a wobbler or williams whitefish, the bigger the spoon the bigger the pike. alot of the bigger pike get caught by trolling spoons. maybe just try a bucktail..... oh and i always get good size pike when i troll a worm harness for 'eyes.
-
hey, well im supposed to be going at the end of the month. went there the same time 2 years ago and it was great!
-
lol well come on, let the information flow.... wheres the best 'eye lake around there? and how do i get to it
-

-
oh ya haha and i was at the locks the other evening and tried for eyes' but nothing and went to the western pier and cast out a cleo where the bait fish were and some nice bass came up and a few whities i think, but nothin bit, but there were smallies everywhere!!! and they wouldnt bite my teardrop but continuously stole my maggots..... and once again even the night bite didnt bring in any whites....
-
lol! when the heck are the salmon commin??? havent seen a whole lot yet.... and i just seen some geese today going south in a V already.....
-
not really that was a first for me too, i just went up the pier to where the current is and cast out my cleo and let it drift down with the current and waited a bit then started reeling...

Smallies in the afternoon and smallies after sunset
redneck666 replied to Cudz's topic in General Discussion
i wish i had pictures to show but i went fishin today and caught a really cool lookin smallie that could barely fit the little cleo in its mouth , had a nice salmon on too..... weather was crap, ended up leavin' cause the rain was so cold... -
well i was at the locks today, goin for whitefish... i had a bite and that was it, so i started casting my cleo out in the current and hooked a massive salmon! but it shook a couple times and it was gone.... then i started throwing the cleo a little closer and then bam, a little smallie barely big enough to fit the lure in its mouth, haha, and this was all off the western pier!!! i tell ye that little smallie was the climax of this crappy day

where is aubrey lake? my buddy says he caught some nice walleye there earlier in the season and a nice accidental whitefish.
