$430 fine while fishing on Scugog this weekend
holdfast replied to Want's topic in General Discussion
Hey thanks for the Reminder. You see, my ownership for my boat and trailer is in the pocket of my truck visor. It never occurred to me to bring it out on the Lake. I know how you feel, but the Cops are doing their job. Just think how many times they heard dude stories and excuses. They tend to get immune. -
man thats a huge Crappie. Great report

You may look different, Play different, be different, but honestly, I would not have ANYBODY as my neighbor than the USA. Happy Independance Day. Thanks for being good neighbors

I always thought it had something to do with the tail because on a sunny day the tail has a very pronounced green spot hence the tail have no Idea about the Johnny though

Ok I will definitely give you guys the problem as soon as the Mechanic has a look. So Ill sum up 2 weekns ago I noticed that when I started the Honda it sounded funny like there was a faint grinding. Later that day I started it and it had no power. I changed the spark plug and it worked fine. Past weeknd it was working fine and I stopped the engine and briefly used the trolling motor. I then tried to start the Honda and it turned for a second then Dead. Not even a sound afterwards pressing the start button. Tried the pull start and I couldn't pull the cord. Went from Neutral to forward still nothing. It will not go all the way to Reverse. I then put a full battery and I get a start clicking noise but of course the fly wheel is Jammed. I pushed the starter gear down and away and still the flywheel is jammed. In neutral prop spins. In Gear absolutely no movement. The oils are good, and the belts are good. I took both spark plugs out and nothing. I have a feeling its a piston or lower gear problem. I'm hoping, maybe...just maybe a broken pin inside. The Honda is a 4 stroke, older model but like new and well taken care of and up to this point flawless.

Hey Dawg I got a question for Ya. I used to catch tons of these in Lake Champlain Vt growing up in the summers there. My buddies at the time Vermonters, Connecticuters used to call them JohnyTails, and Johnyroaches I believe. American terms I would say. Have you ever heard of these names or others for Pumpkinseeds?

Yup you Betcha, when I took my Semi Truck lessons (Crossroads Barrie) they told us how some drivers would use a 5th wheel on a Pickup truck and get their Licence. You Know what, I believe them. Now as far as Pike Hunter is concerned...What is this the first failure in your life and you have to Whine about the Instructor and make a Big Issue on OFC. Sorry, if my heart doesn't bleed for Ya. By the way, it took me two tries for my car License and two tries for my truckers, But guess what? I bet I learned more than the guy that barely passed the first Time. Stop your crying and soldier on. My perspective. I hate whiners

Nice fish, but better, I like your Handle...Name! That would be a good name for a boat. -
the motor is in the shop now. They told me they could only promise me one thing, I says whats that, He says, we wont be looking at it this week.. So it canoeing this weeknd. Its not the starter Binding because I can push the starter gear away from the flywheel ( as per Neutral) and still jammed. I even changed batteries for more juice and still no go, but starter engages. Never did look in the spark plug holes. So Im curious, what would I be looking for. I know thats where the Pistons are.
-
well I tried removing the Spark Plugs and still seized. I guess its off to the shop tomorrow.
-
Thanks guy, Ill try the spark plug removal later, there is hope. Its been used several times, left on the Boat, not any electrical as I cant pull the cord or move the fly wheel. Oils are good.

This weekend was really frustrating at times. The only saving grace is that for the first two days the fishing was good and things didnt seem to fall apart till Sunday mid day. First my fish finder was not working properly, then my outboard conked out, and finally I had to change a wheel bearing on the trailer. I went camping with my neighbor Rodger and after the second day, actually got to dislike him a lot and basically realized that he has a Big L carved on his forehead, for LOSER. More about that later. We decided to go to Cowan and try one of the Islands that he was talking about a week before. We found an Island, I should say, I found an Island as he had no Idea where it was. Obviously it wasn't the one he was talking about, but since it was getting late I decided to find a camping spot before dark. It was a small Mosquito infested Island that was close to a Marshy shore but I figured if there was any wind this would be a good spot to shelter from the blood suckers. Wrong O, It was a beautiful clear night so we threw in the Repellent and started a fire to smoke them out It was a beautiful area with no one in site, lovely trees and shoreline. You can see how logging only left a row of trees along the shore line. Here is a picture from the Island looking from the front close to shore A view of the front of the Island a little further up shore. This Island was a mere 20 by 30 meters in area, small but adequate This view is the back where I watched about 20 pelicans the next morning collectively herding a school of fish by enclosing a circle to each other and then going into a feeding frenzy. We decided that we would just tarp it for the night instead of setting up a tent. My tarp, tent, cloths, foam mattress, sleeping bag, twine are all in a military duffel bag for boat or truck camping. On top of the hill is where we would put our fire while below the hill was our sleeping area. I decided on a piss area, just to make sure I wasn't going to pick up wood that was well, say, contaminated! So, I have a garbage bag, yellow bag with a frying pan ( you Algonguins will notice its from the park, I found them so practical I always asked for extras), beer, Ya CANADIAN) and a tool chest with my camping gear, also for boat or vehical. Its also a table, and fire wood brought in. One side has, utensils, fillet knife, (Tupperware with batteries, lighters, flashlights), canned beans, cooking oil, bag of mixed coffee, sugar, cream, Pam, Leatherman, candy, knife sharpener, etc Other side has paper towel, bum wipe, bug juice, compass, map,radio/MP3,work gloves, soap/pad, bug net,etc Once trays are removed I have water, military rations, stove, fry pan, cook set, fuel, bow saw, axe, grate, water, lantern, first aid kit, etc coffee and fire is a going as well as darkness Oh yea Rodger, I get to my trailer after a 2.5 hr drive and who is sitting on my deck like the sentinel, you guess it, a medicated , babbling Idiot, trying to tell me about some stupid fish that some one try catching for years, he wrote it down but I couldn't understand is writing, I tell him to go home get ready and give me an hour, after two hours I go to his house and wait an hour for him to get his cloths , sleeping bag, water and fishing gear. Of to the Island and I watch him pretend he knows what he is doing, doesn't know where he is, how to use his gear, and, take 2 hours to clean fish because he was on some sort of drugs. He stunk, talked like a fifteen year old, acted like a fifteen year old, and tried to tell me Valium is good for a hang over. Here's the kicker, the Idiot was wearing a shop coat when we went to a public camping area. I listened to him how cops were manageable, his jail time, his friends, on and on. The guy is a bag of hammers and I wouldn't trust that thing for a second. I got to a point that I wanted to drown it. So much for male bonding and giving me some native perspective. It still bugs me trying to watch him for 10 minutes taking a hook out of a pike in a shop coat the next day while falling asleep. Anyways Next morning while Loser was in the prone, I took some shots of some wild life. I love the sound of Loons, just beautiful. I watched as these Pelicans fished And the Rat the fishing wasn't bad as we caught lots of Pike The next morning we went to Hacket Lake to try for some Walleye. One was caught with may favorite lure while trolling. It was released. This place was just full of boaters, what a difference a year makes. Word got out fast. We revisited the trappers cabin The side is only about six feet tall And the inside. It hasn't been used for a while obviously It was at this point the outboard conked out, and the bearings went on the trailer once I got back to Big River. The outboard is still in the truck as the shops are closed till after Canada Day. All in All, a mixed weekend and I'm working tomorrow on Canada Day in my little resort town Meota as the Town maint man. Should be interesting, oh yea, Im also responsibe for the Fire Truck and part of the Fire depart, I can see a few fires happening as we are surrounded by bush, Rednecks, and Reservations.

Never had a problem with my 15 HP Honda till this summer. First it was under powered and I changed the plugs and good to go. Well on Sunday I went to start it, (push button elect start) a split second start click then Dead. Tried pulling the pull cord and it wont Budge. Flipped reverse and forward back to neutral and the fly wheel still doesn't budge. Battery is dead so after a tow and back to the trailer I used a fresh battery and I get a split second start click and still no budging. So now the motor is off to the shop. Any Ideas, Both oils are good. Give me the bad news or maybe its minor. All I can hear is chi chine at the cash register Thanks

I used to laugh at Alberta walleye rules, not anymore
holdfast replied to Cudz's topic in General Discussion
Yea I said the same two years ago when I was posted in Wainwright AB, said my favorite lake was Wolf. Huge Walleye but catch and release. If you wanted to eat, there was plenty of Jack, The only problem with Alberta rules is they go to Saskatchewan and make sure they limit out, as we are allowed six Walleye. Since our Boom people are really noticing the AB plates and their out of town habits. -
Here's a good one from an old Sgt when we were bridging.... Seen my share of Lost fingers and hands. "Don't put your fingers where you wouldn't put your dick"::: Its crude but makes alot of sense.

Last Weekend me and Rodger decided to try out Baxter Lake. That was the Lake that that was a few hundred meters from Dugout. The fishing started off great as I hooked into a big one but lost the fish and my Rapala. Afterwards the wind picked up and made canoeing difficult. We ended up hooking into lots of small ones. All fish were released Apparently I was told that the Island had burned down, now I know why. Any guesses how forest fires start if it ain't Lightning. Anyways this weekend I decided to stick close to the Trailer and fish Cowan lake in Big River. Actually Cowan is a Widening of Big River which is Dammed some 5o kms North. Just down the Hill is the Boat Launch and a camping site And its free to Park and Launch. What a concept eh Couple of Good ole Boys taken off Here is a Pic of the Wharf from the Boat. You are guaranteed to catch Pike off the Dock. There is a couple that drives from Saskatoon 3 Hrs just to Dock Fish As were cruising I wished that I could own a house on the Lake. So far its not too populated but prices are up Big time now. I guess Ill just be lucky that I got my trailer, shed and Lot for $9,000 Yea I bought this JVC speaker for 10 dollars. Folds up as a case. Great camping Item We found these weeds in the middle of the lake and it dropped to 14 feet. We caught pike with almost every cast. No size but eating size. Like a true Native, Rodger couldn't pass up a Meal or two of Jack. Also a great camping and fishing item is the LED light that fits the hat. Look mom my hands are free to tie knots at nite. Wow I had a scare as my motor was acting up. It started with a puff of smoke and not Running on all Cylinders. Changed the spark plug and back to normal. I figure it would of been a 12 hour Paddle back at Night Three Pelicans, nasty, nasty fish eaters Longest day of the year, Beautiful sunset after 10 PM, love it, and calm. Next week I may camp on one of the Islands or camp at Baxter, I'm told there's monsters in there. Cowan, hopefully I can find the Pickerel

Hey , Hey, lets not be oversensitive here. No Name Calling to ant specific Country. Just a group of, I don't know what you would call them if Idiot isn't appropriate. But he is right. Just like the Idiots I seen when living in Wasaga Beach driving and honking their Horns waving every flag but the Canadian Flag on Canada Day a couple of years ago. I would call that classless and idiotic. Question? Since soccer over here is nothing and has no bearing, as I don't see any flags other than the Canadian and Saskatchewan Flags, does the soccer cup end before July 1st? Man you people are over sensitive
