  1. Was just checking out another forum that I am registered with, and there was a report of a Northern Pike and Gar Pike caught south of the bridge in hastings.. 1 Lock away from Rice! Just thought I would pass this along and see if anyone else has heard anything yet? Kawartha Anglers Forum - Pike and Gar caught near Rice Not sure if the link will work if your not registered with the forum, but here is the copy of the first post.. "Author: BUTCHER of Kawartha Anglers Fishing Forum BAD NEWS...REALLY BAD NEWS IN RICE Well guys this is probably the worst thing i have ever had to report.. It started just south of our bridge in hastings..so not really rice lake ( but only 1 lock and 600 ft from the beginning of rice lake)....ok wed. night I was fishing just south of the bridge...and i had one HE_L of a hit...after the hook set ..i know it was no little fish...well it turned out to be a freekin northern pike....about 6-8 lbs...sure was a great fight but we dont need or want them in rice lake...they will kill it(sort of).....next it gets even worse.... So this morning i am fishing just north of our old rail way bridge(in town)....and here the bad news of the day...I landed a GAR PIKE he is not big....buy he was in the lake....I have grown up on this part of the river and in 35 year i NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF 1 BEING CAUGHT ....I know there way down river (bradly bay) ....but sure was upsert to see it in the lake.... i did not have the camera with me for the pike ....yes i killed it.... but did get a couple of today disappointment....
  2. I just purchased PowerPro today at CT, figured why not. Its on sale for $14.99.. 50lb.. Removed the 30lb Berkley Big Game mono from my baitcaster.. Getting too many birdnests, and even made one cast with a brand new spinner for musky... 50ft out and in the air.. SNAP. Spool birdnested on me and snaped while in mid air.. go figure.. Only had the line on there a week or so! Made some casts today with a 4" Rapala, 3/8 Oz Jig, and a 5" Shad Rap on Rice Lake. Awsome line, love it.. Gradually all 6 Spinning Reels will be moved over to PowerPro from mono like I did today with my baitcaster. And any other reels in the future!
  3. Uhaul trailer hitches are crap, they rust out quick and seem to more be for temp applications.. hence they are a moving company and people go to them when they need to move, so they use the hitch once and thats it. They use basic paint on their hitches. Hidden Hitch uses powder coating or a really good enamal paint, ive had my hitch on my car three years, and I could remove it and probly sell it for new lol. The chrome came off the ball before any marks on the hitch
  4. Van & Truck World carrys them.. HiddenHitch - Part #60864 GTW - 2000lbs Tongue - 200lbs
  5. lol awsome read expecially at 3:15am! lol at least it only took you an hour to get in.. If that was local for me it would be like a 3 hour wait!!
  6. Im looking at a Pontoon boat towards the fall or next spring.. Even thou my Grand Am hitch is rated above what it will be towing.. I just don't want to risk it.. And no its not a matter of being uncomfortable.. cause I have hauled anything from 4'x4' trailers up to 36' travel trailers with various vehicles, and have over 1.5Million Km driving experience.. and only 29 yrs old.. But its just the saftey aspect of being in a collision..
  7. Nice catches! Even nicer cousin! Lol, I have to get out fishin on the lake this year! Its been over 12 years since last on Lake Ont.. Don't know anyone in the area anymore that still does it.. so will be lookin at a charter.
  8. When I was 24 I owned a 1980 GMC 1 Ton with 35" Tires and 8" lift, and a Corvette LT1 Motor... I had basic coverage on my truck which I would pay $56 a month... small amount compared to a large fine, or worse injuries... If the truck is only worth a grand or so.. why bother with theft or fire or collsion.. more then likly if someone hits you.. in a old gmc, theres going to be more damage to their new vehicle compared to a old chev.. New fenders.. $60.... new doors $250... new bumpers.. $150.. cheap to repair.. compared to a newer vehicle.. But glad to hear your going to not haul it with your Highlander.. One guy wasn't so lucky when he wouldn't listen to me.... Explained how to load his popup trailer.. Did he listen... no.. He was heading camping for the weekend down in NY.. We installed the hitch on a wednesday.. thursday afternoon he was leaving... He loaded his trailer his way.. Didn't make it even 5km, and the hitch ripped through the frame.. He was only down the road so he just drove that way to our business and came in screaming and yelling.. me and my manager and him went out and looked, sure enough ripped the chasis to shreds... went to try and remove the trailer from the hitch... couldn't lift it.. i was like what the hell.. long story short.. he thought he would have more traction if he loaded everything in the front of the trailer.. he had aprox 600lbs on the tounge..... for a hitch that was rated for 300 on the tounge... In the end.. he appoligized for the way he reacted.. and if my memory serves me right.. the body shop charged him a little over $1800 to repair the frame... Thats only one of many... Just happy to hear your not going to be one of them..
  9. Thing is with hauling that much weight, which is what Toyta Reccomends... You should read the fine print where it says that its using proper trailering equipment.. Such as trailer brakes! Look around.. you will find older early 80's trucks that you can pick up for about 500.. you might put 2-300 into them. but they are easy to maintain, and cheap to repair. And will haul that boat safely
  10. Port Perry Auto Glass & Trim Ltd 1575 7A Hwy Port Perry, ON L9L 1B2 (905) 985-8507 They do Boat Covers and Upholstery Repair also, they might be able to do the carpet replacement.
  11. Those rating are placed on the hitches for a reason.. I was a Accessory Technician for 3 yrs with Van & Truck World.. Seen the results of people trying to overload!! Not pretty... If your guessing a the weight of the boat of nearly 1000lbs difference.. I would recommend going to a local weigh scale to get the true weight of the boat. Another fact is that your Highlander's frame us a UniBody Chassis compared to a Solid C-Channel Chassis on the Ford Explorer. Unibody sheetmetal is about 1/8 of the thinkness of the Explorer Frame... Also the Highlander Chassis is auctually a altered Camry Chassis. Find a old soild frame truck for a couple hundred bucks and just have it for hauling the boat back and forth.. will save you thousands in having the rear chassis replaced after the boat riping it apart.. Big difference from hauling a overload on the road, flat even surface.. compared to hauling at a incline on a ramp.
  12. We used to get them down here all the time in the stream in Colborne.. fished them the same way, and would throw them on the road for the cars to take care of them! lol
  13. Don't forget the Great Grand Dads, and even Great Great Grand Dads... Im not a father, but my Step-Grandfather on my moms side, has a Great Great Grandchild.. Not something that seems to be common in this day and age.
  14. Love the one when the whole trailer is still attached. I have a feeling with the amount of "Bloopers" that Bill Dance has.. they are staged! There is just no way someone is that clumsy with forgeting to unstrap the boat.. Or somehow the "Pin" comes out from the draw bar....
  15. Customizing baits at the moment, and rain is supposed to slow down here shortly, then heading to a covered dock on Brighton Bay to try for some Wallys.
  16. Just wondering if anyone knows of any spots that could be ok for walleye casting from shore. I don't have a boat, and usually end up on the shore of Rice, and down the Severn to Brighton and Trenton area.. Im out of Colborne, and would like to find a few spots that I can drive to and fish from shore.. and stay with in about a 1hr drive.. Even PM if you don't want to post public. Thanks
  17. Check out the link. It will show you the prize levels for each week. Of course the "Free Weeks" are much lower, but hey.. money is money.. Bounty Fishing - Prizes
  18. I just joined on Monday.. and registered for the free week tourments.. But if you look at the winners list there are alot of Canadians on there and one from like Manitoba thats won like $27,000 so far! Be sure you read all the regs for the photos and such before you submit them!
  19. The reason for the power to the module is that the vehicles use a negative wire system. There is full time power supplied to the light, and when you hit your brakes or turn signals its grounded. They swtiched to that system due to the fact they were able to eliminated full time live wires under the dash.
  20. If the boat is out of water and dry or if you can atleast get it out of the water for a bit where you want to stick it.. Get it good and dry and get a hard piece of plastic or aluminum, something smooth that will hold a suction.. Have it a little larger then the suction cup, and get some 3-m double sided tape, and dry the hull well and even clean it with some rubbing alcohol, and stick the base with the tape to the boat, and hold presure for about 30 seconds. and you should be good to go, stick on your suction cup and away you go. Bascially same thing is the flat plastic disc that comes with GPS's so you can stick it to your dash and stick the suction cup to it.. So if you can find one of those discs they come loaded with the tape and your good to go.. Just don't expect to remove the disc later lol. You can but will have to replace the tape.
  21. Faulty box.. Seen it before.. Considering I have installed over 300 of them.... on average one out of every 25 boxes are faulty or will fail with in the first year. Thats the problem with mass computer controlled assembly.. Parts start to wear and specs start to shift and the manufacturer doesn't compensate for the wearing parts.. Even 1/100th of a inch can mean the differnce between working and not working. Also to get a test just on the jeep itself.. use a test light, connect it to the frame or the exhaust tail pipe, and probe the car end of the connector while having someone else control the brake lights and such, test it that way to see your results. on the flat four plug your wires are always... Brown - Tail Yellow - Left Green - Right White - Ground There is also the possibility that the t-connector on the right side was pinned wrong.. Found that a few times also.. go back to where you bought the kit, and get them to open a new package for you and remove your light and compare the connector pin for pin for each wire to make sure they were installed at factory correct.
  22. Seems more like he was impaitent and he did care about catching fish... Seems more like he just wanted to catch fish then anything else.. just a typical stuborn man refusing to ask for directions or help and didn't want to tell you that he really wanted fish.. Am I stuborn.. at times.. but would never react like he did I am one that loves to fish and really doen't care if I don't catch anything.. this past saturday.. 11 Hours.. Rice Lake, Trent Severn Lock 6, and Murray Canal... Not even a bite! But i enjoyed every minute of it! Would of been nice to catch some fish.. But its the time spent in nature that I love the most.. and yesterday.. 6 Hours at Murray Canal.. couple little bites.. but that was it.. skunked again.. Doesn't get me upset, or irriated or anything.. And other were around catching fish.. Most using bottom feeder rigs with worms to catch pike... But i just prefer to use what I got.. and most what has worked in the past.. Some days are good, some bad.. But like most people know.. A bad day of fishing is better then a good day at work
  23. Nice, thanks for the tips. Will definatly have to try them techniques.. Went back today but the water was choppy and it was fairly windy. Even casting a 5" spoon into the wind for Pike, i would lose half the distance! Hopefully the weather is better this week.. Since I noticed most of the comments were around the trent area, then most might know where I have been spending some time at.... Murry Canal south of Brighton. At the turning bridge, take the canal road west right down to the point. In the pic, as soon as you step onto the concrete, ive been spoting the Gar on the right, right beside the shore! Been seein alot of people pullin 24" average pike from the end of that pier
  24. lol thanks for the tip on the towel.. Always carry one in the car anyways.. I havn't smelt it yet, but I still have a feeling the American Eel is worse! They are just down right raunchy.
  25. Found a hotspot tonight in Quinte with a load of Gar Pike up to aprox 30" Can see them swimming in schools of 3-6 with in a few feet of the shore. Who has caught them, and what did you use for bait?? Thank You
