  1. As an active player in the MTHL growing up in Toronto, mostly in AA and AAA, I found that I became a better player when body checking WAS invloved. It taught me to keep my head up, to look for people to pass too more quickly and to be more aware. It's a part of the game. Yes, there will always be kids who are out to "head-hunt" but so be it. They will be the same kids doing it in a non-contact enviroment. You can't avoid the meat-heads out there. Same thing goes in non-contact adult leagues. I remember I played a few games in Oakville many many years ago against Mcsorleys brother. OMG....this guy was a complete maniac. I've since stopped watching NHL hockey because of the way they play. I'm a big fan of the hard nose, grinding style of play....not the "cycling in the corner" or "dump and chase" game they play now. God forbid you touch another player when they skate past you these days.........ugh...
  2. I have a Garmin GPSMap 76Cx attached to my ATV that I use to get me to the general area (Bluecharts aren't that detailed) then I use a Samsung Galaxy Tab4 with 7" screen with Navionics on it to pinpoint where I want to go. I picked it up in a Costco in Hawaii along with a 64GB micro SD card for $125. I've used it every day on the ice and it's been great. I also protect it with the Griffin Survivor case.
  3. I'm field staff for Kamooki Lures and have been using them through the ice on Simcoe for lakers. Even got a couple whiteys on it. They're working on a couple more sizes for this lure, one a little smaller and one a little bigger. Can't wait to throw them for bass! Great write-up by the way!
  4. I once jigged up 2 whities while listen to and jigging to "She's got the Jack" by AC/DC.
  5. Lund Predator, 225 merc, twin poles on the back, 10" screens,. A man can dream....can't he??
  6. I was working at the Kamooki Lure display in Natural Sports on Friday and Pro J's on Saturday. Seemed like a pretty good turn out. I'm kicking myself for not going to see Mr. Pyzer on Sunday though. Colin
  7. Today, a buddy and I decided to put some miles on the ATV's. We drove past the middle grounds of Lake Simcoe but never really found a good bite. Out in the middle grounds, it reminded me of the hardened lava fields in Hawaii.......only this was jagged pack ice with more pressure cracks then we've ever seen. Brutal to drive over. I managed to pick up a few nice, fat lakers out there so it made the drive well worth it! The fish were super picky today but tricked them with a little sparkle and flash of the Bass Magnet Lures 4" chartreuse Tinsel Tubes. Colin
  8. Since I was on-call last week, I really could only hit the ice for a limited amount of time due to work commitments but still managed to get a few topside. The pressure cracks are very tricky this year so be careful out there but the ice in general is great! First whitefish on the Kamooki Smartfish New prototype colour from Bass Magnet Lures New prototype colour from Bass Magnet Lures Cloud-o-herring Colin
  9. I use the Marcum LX-7. Sawweeet unit.
  10. It seemed like Lady Simcoe froze instantly over night last week which is good news for all us hard water lovers around the area. Not saying that the entire lake is good to go but the places that I fished, you couldn't ask for better ice. Pure black ice...other then the odd little pressure crack (which aren't big as of yet). I didn't put in the hours out there that I would have liked due to work commitments but it was still great to get out there and shake off the cobwebs from the deep water sticks. I was recently added to the www.kamooki.ca field staff team so I was dying to try out their Smartfish lure. It was raved about at ICAST and it caused quite the stir in the depths of Lake Simcoe this weekend. My first laker of the season came on the Herring pattern! Man, I missed the ice! Here's a few from the weekend. Kamooki Smartfish Herring Bass Magnet Lures Glo Shift'r Shad Cheers, Colin
  11. He's got a good selection of them Chris.
  12. thanks for posting the address, Jose!
  13. I ordered my new 3 yr Outdoors card/license online on Dec 23rd at 11pm and just received the card in the mail today. That's only 13 days total which includes 3 stat holidays and 4 weekend days. I'm impressed! I guess I won't need to cart around the piece of paper for months on end after all. Colin
  14. I can't believe that I've never been in there, before today, and I live about 5mins away. I popped in and had a great chat with Tom, the owner. What a great guy! The shelves are fully stocked and so are the minnow tanks for the up-coming hard water season. I'll be a regular from now on. Be sure to stop in and say hi. Colin
  15. I once jigged up my Estwing hammer through the ice........that I lost 2 weeks earlier. No GPS, just a general area and some luck. Best $30 ever saved.
