  1. Walking Angler eh? How about "Wangler"? I'll tell you Wangler it's not about the gear. You'll find the info you get here will improve your catch ratio and therefore your enjoyment in the great outdoors. Don't forget your camera too, we love lots of pics. Welcome
  2. That is a great forum for kayak fishing. I've been a member for a little over a year. Not too much on fresh water fishing though, they concentrate on ocean fishing mostly. Still some interesting reads to get through the winter with.
  3. Don't be afraid of an old Sportspal. My uncle handed down his Sportspal to my brother Joonmoon and I after he had it for 22 years. We used it for another 6 years before I went out and bought a brand new one. That was 14 years ago now and I'm still using it today. They are light and extremely stable. Never even had a close call in all those years. They do not paddle all that well though so I recommend getting an electric motor for power. The ones I'd recommend for fishing are the transom models. Here are some pics of a 12' transom model. This is my 14' transom model Sportspal. Notice brother Joonmoon (who stands 6'4" and weighs 230lbs) kneeling to release a 41" musky he caught with me last opener. You won't be sorry if you end up with a Sportspal.
  4. How about 2 Jack Russells in a kayak. This is in gator country so the dogs have 2 uses. One, they will bark if any gators come around. Two, if the gators get too close you just chuck one of the dogs over and paddle for shore.
  5. You gotta love smallmouth. Nice fish, nice markings on it too. Congrats.
  6. Try Kodak. They have a couple models that should fall into your category. I've been using Kodak digitals since 2001 without a problem.
  7. Those are some tasty looking eyes there Castmaster, now I'm hungry again.
  8. Ha. Better a bad hockey fan, than a fan of bad hockey. Priceless photo muskymatt. Penguins vs Wild Wild wins the cup
  9. The Islanders have to go with Doobie now, he got them there. Doobie, Doobie, Doobie...
  10. Doobie, Doobie, Doobie. I can hear the chants all the way from Long Island. The Leaf fans can cry all they want about Brodeur on the bench, but they had their chance on Thursday night to finish off the Islanders. Now maybe all those leaf flags on the cars will be put away for another year.
  11. Now that the HABS are out, I hope they add Ryder to the Canadian team for the World Championships. Today on TSN 3:30, DOOBIE,DOOBIE,DOOBIE.
  12. I use mine when fishing from a kayak. I attach it to a 3ft nylon musky leader and hook it to the yak. When I'm drifting it just bobs along beside me. When paddling I just flip it into the boat and dry it with a towel and the battery is saved. I found it accurate and easy to use, but I'm on my second watch battery in less than 16 hours of use.
  13. Where you fishing that pike was still open? I thought most of Ontario was closed to pike fishing as of the end of March.
  14. I used to go in the Tourney every year. I found I didn't enjoy it that much. All your favourite spots on the river are packed with people. Most of them are leaving garbage behind and spooking all the fish. It is mainly for shorebound anglers because it would be hard to keep a good smallmouth alive in a canoe until you reach your car. Then you would have to drive to Bingeman's to get it entered. I remember one year two guys brought in a 21" largemouth they said they caught behind the Lanc hotel. The boys at the measuring station were skeptical and removed a scale for testing. Turns out they caught it at Shade's Mill conservation area in Cambridge. Can't cheat these guys. There is no reason to bring in a smallmouth that is less than 18.5" because it won't win you anything. You could always win a door prize I guess. Now when the derby is on I'll usually go to Guelph lake or Puslinch or Shade's mill just to get away from the crowds.
  15. Nothing but carp to fish for in the Kitchener area of the Grand until mid-May. You could try behind the Grand Hotel. There is some good carp fishing there.
  16. Here's a pic of the Shipper and his Sportspal with optional sail kit. Works pretty good too. I think it was designed specifically for the Sportspal though so it probably won't work on another brand of canoe.
  17. WHAT??? No Pink Floyd??? Man, what a ripoff
  18. I've had one for 12 yrs. I couldn't go without now. Crappy tire sells them, made by Minn Kota.
  19. Hey Jeremy, you're good to go, as long as you have updated your card with a new sticker for this year. Pike is open until the end of March. It will then close until mid May for the spawn. Good luck in the Grand with all it's chocolate milk running high due to melt off. Try some slack eddies or slower moving stretches with live bait or huskyjerks/x-raps twitched slow and methodically.
  20. Great pick, Rick. Another good watch is "Pink Floyd in Pompei". The Floyd do a live open air concert, in a pompein amphitheater, without any fans. Hey Snog, a good bootleg is "Crackers, damn braces, bless relaxes". And if your head explodes with dark forbodings too...you'll know where I'll be.
  21. Since we are talking fantasy, I want to get skunked on a lunar adventure to the Sea of Tranquility. I'd love to see how far I can cast a bucktail in lunar gravity. I've already got a map ready to make notes on good spots.
  22. I am a former float tube fisherman. Graduated to a kayak fisherman. It's just too hard to travel any farther than 50 yards or so in a float tube. The other problem I found was you can't fish shallow water with a float tube. I was also very aware of how small your profile is when on the water. Didn't like the idea of a bass boat running me over. Here is a pic of a nice perch I caught from Pearl lake near Hanover. Try renting a recreational kayak from Island lake (Orangeville res.) for some fishing. I'm sure you'll put your float tube up for sale the next day.
  23. I haven't been there yet myself, but it should be open around the edges with all this warm weather we've been having. Let us know if you make it out for a look.
  24. Great story and pics MB. That is one fine pike there my friend.
  25. You need a Casting Bubble. It is a clear plastic bobber looking apparatus that spin fishermen use to throw flies. You can fill it with as much water as you need to add weight. It won't ruin your lures action and won't spook the fish.
