  1. well my shift got cancelled last nigh... so after a phone call to the wife i started getting ready to go fishing... after a few phone calls it was clear that it was gunna be a solo mission... and that was fine with me... some time to relax and explore a little... slow down and just have some fun... as soon as i got to the launch.... drip... drip... drip... got on my rain suit then it started to rain pretty good for a few hours...then it cleared right up and the wind settled down.... so i cruise out to my first spot... drop my crank back 100 feet... engage the reel and bang... hit almost immediately... dont even think it made it to depth yet... nice 3 pound walleye... i decide to complete the pass instead of going over where i got that one... ended up getting another on in the same pass... great... next spot i got 2 more... then about every second spot i caught fish... finished the day with 10 walleye... biggest was 25-26 inches... even kept a few for supper tomorrow...
  2. sweet catch im starting to go into musky mode right now... havent fished em in a month... been obsessed with walleye
  3. Your biggest issue would be reeling a walleye through a weed bed I would think...
  4. I was actually planning on trying slip float walleye soon... But drifting an offering under the float...
  5. Hey steve... Welcome to the site... Glad you were able to find it... Lotsa great anglers as well as other professionals on the board that are willing to answer questions about pretty well anything.... It's an amazing resource for any angler... And a great place to meet like minded buddies to spend some Saturdays with...
  6. Its on now... Pretty cool show... Check it out
  7. thats my city...lol there is a more then average number of loonies living here....
  8. thats not gunna get you much.... remember you still need to purchase mapping... my mapping was 200+ dollars... so that would leave you with only 200 for your gps... this is the unit i have and its pretty good... http://www.cabelas.com/product/Boating/Boating-Electronics/Sonar-and-SonarGPS-Combos|/pc/104794380/c/104707080/sc/104588280/Humminbird174-597-ci-HD-Combo-SonarGPS/1166946.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fboating-boating-electronics-sonar-and-sonar-gps-combos%2F_%2FN-1100517%2B10000054%2B4294753887%2FNe-4294753887%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104588280%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%25253BMMcat104794380%253Bcat104707080%26WTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU&WTz_l=SBC%253BMMcat104794380%3Bcat104707080%3Bcat104588280 on sale for 499 right now...
  9. Just gps? Or gps sonar combo? What's your budget?
  10. Makes iTunes $1.00-1.50 per song look pretty cheap now... Doesn't it...
  11. dont think hes calling you guys idiots.... but the lurkers that leach off of your scouting and trial and error that will show up and keep EVERYTHING they catch... then bring all their friends the next time and so on... i didnt know about A LOT of rivers until i became a member of this site.... i only knew of 2 rivers that had salmon runs...now i know PLENTY more because of people posting names of rivers...
  12. So guys that fish waters that have commercial fishing could get away with it then....
  13. I buy bulk and repack in ziploc before freezing.... I have 20+ pounds of ground beef... 10-15 steaks... 20 pounds of chicken breast... Etc... So if I was someone who had to buy fish... I'd buy lots of it on sale and pack it in freezer bags... Also... What would biological testing prove with store bought walleye...? Aren't grocery store walleye wild fish caught by commercial fishing?
  14. Boats have slid off trailers in the past... That's a fact... I don't care what the situations were when it happened... That's enough for me to always leave the strap on the boat until its in deep enough... Why wouldn't you? It takes 10 seconds to hop out and remove it... I have rollers so it's not a choice... The strap has to stay on... And that's the advice I give others...
  15. Great haul Simon... Musts been some kinda moon cycle... Cause I managed 16 walleye in 4 hours on Thursday as well... They were practically jumpin in the boat.... No piggies like your big one tho... A few over 24... Lost one around 27-28 inches yesterday tho... And landed 8 in 3 hours... So again... Kinda like you... Lots thursday... Half that friday... Neat...
  16. Did the one fish hit when you were lifting your bulldog out of the water...?
  17. 2-3 times a week... Sometimes more... Like in the last 10 days I got out 7 times...lol And I've been fishing since I could hold a rod... Started out catching rockbass in our boathouse.... About 20-23 ago.... And luckily my father is a great angler as well as my grandfather ( mothers father) who also built g loomis rods... so I'm third generation fishing the same old spots.... Like the "crab"... "Mary's hole"....lol... Etc... So that head start and basic knowledge of structure and how to read a river is comin knowledge for my family... And I've expanded on what I've been shown by family by networking with other anglers and chatting it up at tournaments with the fellas that beat me to find out how.... I'm also lucky to grow up with the technology we have... My I can only imaging how grandpa would have done if he had an HDS unit 60 years ago... Those guys used to fish blind... No sonar... They would visually follow structure... Anyways... I'm rambling... Time to go fishing....
  18. Not just simcoe We are seeing strange patterns on the st.lawrence also...
  19. On a lake you should be good with a 55lb... Whether you want bow or transom that's personal preference...
  20. I had that same problem... With my last motor... High speed jet was plugged in my carb.... Seafoam cleaned it out... Heavy heavy dose of seafoam...
  21. I have roller bunks... My straps stay on till the motor is over the water... It can be annoying.... But I can launch in really really shallow water....
  22. I'd buy the boat/trailer combo... Then post an add for a free boat... Then you don't have to worry about low balling...lol
  23. I like long rods for panfish... I use a 10.5 foot st croix wild river... I think it's light action... Casts really far and gets a nice bend with slabs... I own a small fenwick and it collects dust...
  24. And as long as you only loosen the 2 bolts in the slotted section.... You cant drop it
