  1. Link to Yamaha specs Hard to believe but the Yamaha specs have the 20hp 4 stroke at only about 10lbs more than the 25hp 2 stroke
  2. I just spent the last couple of hours or so calling around looking for a deal on a Yamaha outboard, my criteria was 20 or 25 hp 2 or 4 stroke long shaft non current because I'm shopping for a deal. I have come up with two choices one of which I will buy, first a 25 hp two stroke manual start or for $500 bucks more a 20hp 4 stroke electric start. I don't mind mixing gas and oil for the 2 stroke and I don't mind the extra maintenance the 4 stroke will require, I want to decide tonight because either one of these non currents are substantially less than 09's and will disappear soon. Thanks for your input. In case this influences your suggestions it's for a 14 ft jon boat with a modifed V hull, 2 people, 100lb lab, 35 mile long inland lake.
  3. I was at the London Boat show on the weekend and was looking at all the lures and power baits etc. I have to admit I was overwhelmed by all the choices so I read the back of some of the hundreds of packages taking into consideration what was the claimed fish the bait would catch, some didn't make any suggestions. This had me thinking how do fisherman make their bait choices, I know experience has a big role here but what else makes you buy a particular bait.
  4. looks good at that price but it can still end up going for quite a bit more by the end of the auction. Also did you see the trailer is not included and would be another $395 US. Dont forget to due the currency exchange and call customs to figure out what its going to cost to bring it into Canada. Plus the gas to go and get it, I think it might end up too much money.
  5. How exciting , this will be one of your most memorable days of your life thanks for sharing with us.
  6. Boy it sure seems like Yamaha has captured a lot of attention in the outboard motor world. I continually read very good things about them and I only ran across one dealer that sells both Yamaha and Mercury and didn't have a preference of one over the other. Most dealers have me convinced Yamaha is the way to go. I do like the looks of that camo Merc though... there was a little camo Minn Cota at the london boat show that I looked at and loved the way it looked but this boat has a bow mount platform already installed and that motor was a transom mount. In case anyone is wondering this boat was $1999 freight and pdi included from Hully Gully, trailer was $835. They were still advertising them at the London show so they may still have some.
  7. Here is a picture of my new boat and trailer, still looking at motors and researching that whole subject. As of right now I'm leaning towards a 25hp 2 stroke, that's the max it is rated for. It came with a bow platform and a really wide rear bench with pedestal mounts already installed. I have added seats so far and a couple of rod holders. The model is a Tracker grizzly 1448 AWL, (all welded long shaft) It was a leftover 08 so it was way less than an 09.
  8. we went yesterday, from what I saw there was good deals on fishing gear. I got to the refurbished trolling motors a little late most had sold signs on them. As far as new boat prices which I'm a bit up to date on since I just bought a boat a couple of weeks ago and spent a couple of months shopping for it before that. The boat prices looked good but most packages but included a motor that was too small for the boat in my opinion and by the time you upgrade the motor to what the boat should have the price ended up way higher than you would expect, seems like straying away from the factory package costs big $money$. I think I was better off buying the boat, trailer separately and equipping it with a motor of my choice.
  9. I'm eligible to retire in 3 years or if I loose my job before that which is likely my house goes for sale same day and when it sells I'm heading for a simplier way of life in the north. Cost of living will be way way less not to mention fish and game readily available for the kitchen table.
  10. will there be anyone selling boat seats and pedestals there? How about trolling motors?
  11. Yup I saved $1200 on my 08 Grizzly 1448 AWL and matching trailer vs buying the same thing 09 model year. The lower dollar is about to take it's toll on automobiles and a whole lot more.
  12. Sorry, yes I meant Spring Fishing and Boat Show
  13. the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the picture was WOW! CONGRATS!
  14. I look forward to it every year, this year I'm hoping to find a outboard motor deal!
  15. I had this exact same thing happen to me on a 1988 Mitsubishi Raider. I never heard about it happening to anyone else. The transmission actually seized up from lack of lubricant, the transfer case was over full from the trans fluid. It was just out of warranty but they replaced the trans complete with a new one and it never happened again the 9 years I drove it after the event. I would make sure the transmission vent is not plugged with mud being a 4wd.
  16. Vehicle on ice = no insurance, you were able to purchase extra insurance for a snowmobile going through the ice but not sure now a days.
  17. Hey guys I didn't get a chance to go to the Spring Fishing show this year but wonder if there were any outstanding deals on boats there. I found what I think was a decent deal a couple a couple of weeks ago, last years model bought when dollar was at par about $1200 less than an 09 so the dealer passed that on to me. Did Boats seem priced real good? I read another post where tackle and stuff wasn't priced that great. I'm still looking for a 20 to 25 hp motor too if anyone noticed any real good deals on one...
  18. I will be exploring fishing on Baptiste Lake every chance I get!
  19. I'm watching it right now it's real bad, I'm wishing I had the last 15 minutes of my life back. It makes you look forward to the commercials
  20. I was so excited I went to two different CT's to get a head start yesterday but there wasn't much tagged with those bright orange stickers we all like to see so much. Hopefully staff was there all night tagging and the fishing section will glow orange with sale tags today!
  21. who makes E-tec? Would they be allowed on a non two stroke lake?
  22. I'm in the market for a small outboard and have read about lakes in the US that have banned two stroke motors. Has anyone heard of any chance we will see this for Ontario lakes in the future. If this be the case maybe I would pay the extra for a four stroke now.
  23. I love the WFN my wife got it for me 2 weeks ago and since, the bathroom I was redoing hasn't made any more progress.
  24. thanks I will be checking it out, last week the local CT had a couple of CLEAROUT bins full of fishing lures jigs etc. marked way down at least 50%. I didn't realize what a well equipped tackle box costs to set up so now I'm a big fan of SALES!
