Then the question becomes "Who do we please"?

Our Health Care System can be frustrating! NF
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Thanks Lew and I am really glad it has worked out well for you two. We are still hanging in there, don't know why we keep running into these issues. Our last appointment we were kept sitting in the waiting room for over two hours past our scheduled appointment and than got told "someone didn't send us the test results so sorry, you will have to come back again". We must be doing something wrong! -
Must be something I am missing here; our TV isn't "wired" to our router or anything (other than our satalite TV input and out sound system) but I can access anything on my computer directly through the TV (as long as I have it shared). I also can access a whole range of things, Youtube, Netflix, news, weather, movies....... even custome stuff Popcorn TV (which has lots of free movies on it).

Well, I will gladly donate a day of my time and fuel to run around and pick stuff up and deliver it to Moe (or wherever she needs it) if that will help but it would be nice to be able to do it all on the same day so I can set it up as a run! Unfortunatly I will not be able to attend this year because of the late notice we already had plans that I can't change.

My heart goes out to this family. I had a GSP for 14 years and hunted with him all over the place, It broke my heart when the time came that I had to let him go but if he had been killed in a trap like this I'm not sure what I'd have done. at the same time I have to see the other side of the coin, if trapping was no longer allowed in these areas (and then the problem becomes which areas because there will always be someone that doesn't want it in "their" area). So, what is the answer? I really wish I knew! We could insist that dogs not be allowed to run free, we already do that in many areas but if it is crown land then it belongs to all of us so why shouldn't my dog be allowed to run free on it. We could stop trapping on crown land but that wouldn't be fair to the trapper not to mention what it might do to the animal populations that are controled by trapping and the problems that might create. Perhaps all traps should have a sign posted in bright red or something but dogs can't read so I guess that wouldn't help. How do we please everyone?

Since last summer Sue has been having some heart issues, mind you this is nothing new, she had a quad bypass 20 years ago and has had stints put in since then but this was another issue. Her cardioligist wanted her to see a specialist in Ajax so even with a referal it took us a month to get in. Fast forward: After several tests and a proceedure to try to correct the current issue they decided that in order to proceed further she needed another "specialized test" which could only be done in Toronto General. So we go on the waiting list for this "special" MRI. weeks go by and we finally get the call, they have an opening so we head off to the big smoke. The test gets done Jan. 24 and a follow up appointment with the specialist gets booked for today Feb. 13 (ya, I know, it's a Friday the 13 th). So, this morning Sue decides to phone the Dr's office just to make sure that they do have the test results before we drive all the way down to Ajax (this has happened to us twice before already) and sure enough they don't have them yet. A quick call to the hospital to see if they can be faxed over....... The diagnostic imaging Dept. is closed today, no explanation as to why, it's just closed. So here we sit and wait some more because in three weeks no one has forwarded the results of a test to Sue's Dr.. I have booked a day off work so there goes a days wages and now we have another appointment set for March 4 (so I loose another day of work) and poor Sue sits on pins and needles for another three weeks. Her last comment to me was "if I don't make it raise heck with someone!" Pretty sad, I can take my dog in for an MRI and have the results back in under an hour but my wife has to wait 7-8 weeks. I might understand if this was a problem with her knee or something but this is her heart (she may be my pussycat she has already used up 8 of her 9 lives!) Oh, and to top it all off her kidney specialist just told her that he will no longer be able to see her here in Lindsay because of cutbacks to the system; she now has to go to Peterborough to see him. Thank you Premier Winnie the POOP! Sorry to rant but I am really frustrated.

Awesome silent Auction this Sunday!
Big Cliff replied to Pigeontroller's topic in General Discussion
Oh I got to spend a couple of days fishing with Marc Thorpe a few years ago and it was wonderful! I learned so much from that man and enjoyed every minute of the time I got to spend with him. Wish I could do it again!!!!!! -
Lew, I am not very smart with all this new technology but we use ours now to play music from our computer through the TV (even figured out how to create our own play lists) and our sound system, NetFlicks, looking at any of our photos..... the list is endless it seems. What ever I could do on the computer before I can now do on the TV and a lot more, it is so easy! Enjoy my friend because I know you will LOL.

What you giving your honey for Valentines Day
Big Cliff replied to LostAnotherOne's topic in General Discussion
When Sue and I first got together we both had debts and not a lot of money left over so the very first Valentine's day I couldn't afford to give her much but I did give her a single red rose because she was the "One and Only", (and it was all I could afford) and I cooked her a nice dinner dinner of fresh trout (her favorite food is anything to do with fish). 33 years later and I still give her a single red rose because she is still the One and Only and I am still cooking her a really nice dinner. This year it is going to be scallops, crab legs, lobster tails, and a maple crusted salmon fillet with a side of brown and wild rice. I'll probably pick up a bottle of her favorite red wine too (I realize that red wine isn't supposed to go with seafood but it does go with the red rose LOL). What Sue gives me in return...... I'll never tell -
Wish I had room for one of those but the biggest that will fit our wall unit is 42". We just bought our first Smart TV this fall and it sure is nice to be able to do so many things that we could only do on the computer before.

That is why I said I would have to see it, You are probably right but it is likely going to cost you at least 1/2 an hour labour (if you are lucky). Let me know how it turns out for you.
-
I would have to have a look at it, I am wondering if the flywheel has slipped on the shaft and thrown the timing off which would cause it to fire early in the compression stroke causing it to kick back. Where are you located?
-
I tried the "press 2 for French" once but then I couldn't understand the instructions that followed LOL. I have in the past insisted that they connect me with a person fluent enough in Canadian English that I could understand and that has worked.

$1000.00 bill. Might not catch me any fish but I'd sure have a lot of fun!
-
Glad to hear that it all worked out ok, no one got hurt and a good lesson learned!
-
Any update on this? I am anxious to hear how this plays out, I think there might be some good information to come from it.

I don't even look at the top of the page anymore lol!

Sure would be nice to read some fishing reports
Big Cliff replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
That is why this board has thrived over the years while many others have not. We are a diverse group of people with a wide variety of intrests and opinions but we share a common love; fishing. As for fishing reports it is really hard to post anything of substance anymore without offending someone, locations tactics, to keep or not to keep. I gave up a while ago because someone thought everyone would know I must be talking about Sturgeon Lake because that is where I live and I shouldn't be telling people how the fishing was here. Anyway, still the best site on the internet! -
What I think they really need is time. They have way too many players with a lot of tallent that just don't know how to work as a team. That only comes with experience. Stop trying to FIX things by changing people (they have been doing that for way too long already) and start getting people learning how to work together then they will have a TEAM. All for one, one for all!

Leafs are MAKING HISTORY LOL. They are going for the worst team ever and doing a fine job of it! -
Well, I am anything but a coward but old age and experience has taught me that confrontation isn't always the best solution especially if this individual is already aware that he/she is trespassing and involved in what could be illegal activity. As for the trail cam; well someone that is experienced enough to be trapping has probably spent plenty of time in the bush and it would take one VERY well placed trail cam for them not to spot it. High up in a tree and well secured won't stop a .22 from destroying anything that might be on it. But you are right, each to their own.
-
Might also be a good way to loose a trail cam or get yourself hurt! What happens if who ever set those traps comes along while you are removing them? What happens if you miss one or two and your dog or one of the kids does get hurt? IMHO let the MNR and/or the police handle it, they will insure that the traps get removed safely and that the person who set them is dealt with accordingly. It's a much safer solution!
-
Well, first of all I am glad to hear that your dog is ok and that no one got hurt. Since there doesn't seem to be any damage to your dog's leg/paw it sounds like it might have been a Modified leg hold trap. Unlike the old style they are now available with offset jaws, or lamination, or both, which decrease pressure on the animals' legs. Traps are also available with a padded jaw, which has rubber inserts inside the jaws to reduce animal injuries It sounds like the one your dog found was set for coyote or fox, was there any bait hanging above it? Do not try to confront the person that set those traps or try to remove them yourself, you have no idea who or what you could be dealing with, simply call MNR or the police and let them deal with it! If nothing else any existing traps will be removed safely and the trapper informed that he/she is tresspassing.

Ouch! Propane Heating Cost in the Kawartha's
Big Cliff replied to manjo39's topic in General Discussion
My last fill was $0.55/L, less than half what I was paying this time last year and we are using less too. Not sure if the new roof has anything to do with it or it might not be quite as cold. -
My friend, once you have given what you can afford there is absolutly no reason to feel guilty, in fact that is when you should feel proud that you have done your part!
