  1. Man, you are doing it all wrong if you have to sneek out. Here is what I do: I wake Sue up around 4:00 in the morning, tell her I can't sleep and need to do something, ask her if I should stay in bed and "cuddle" or should I just go fishing for a while. I guarentee she will tell me to make sure I dress warm and have a good time fishing! As long as she thinks it was her choice, everyone is happy You young guys have so much to learn about making a marrage happy!
  2. Nicely done Stan, good report! If you happen to get a couple of white fish that you can spare I'll smoke them for you and split what ever you give me. I even made some fish jerky last week and it truned out very nice. Never tried the jerky with white fish but I will if I get the chance.
  3. My son came down yesterday and we drilled a bunch of holes. I was thinking that the weed beds in and around Goose Bay should be holding plenty of perch, NOT! Doesn't make a lot of sense, we tried in the weeds, on the edges of the weeds, out away from the weeds. We tried the chanel where there is curent, out at the end of the chanel where there is a bit of a delta, I had thought that the perch and crappie would be hanging in there letting the food come to them. A buddy caught one small perch, that was it. So far, we have covered everything from 4-12' of water and the Aqua-Vu hasn't seen any fish. Water clarity is really good, no problem seeing 12' clearly but the fish just aren't there. This morning we are going to start at 12 fow and work out from there, they have to be somewhere. I have also talked to a couple of guys with huts in the area but they haven't found them yet either. I did hear that some guy caught about 30 perch off of Long Beach but that was third hand so I don't know how reliable that is. With the exception of one or two, most of the huts seem to be moving around quite a bit which to me indicates they are still looking too. Oh well, we are going to give it another shot again today and expand our range. There is plenty of good solid ice even over the chanel where the curent is so we'll be able to use the ATV. Hopfully we can track down enough for a nice fish fry for tonight, if we don't I guess we'll be serving KD. (it's OK, I like KD LOL.)
  4. Well, all I can say is "it's a good thing you arent my neighbour!" From your posts, I get the feeling you are looking for a fight. I'll bet at this rate you are going to find one. What the heck, that is just my $0.02 worth!
  5. Suck it up buttercup! Go and talk to the guy, reach a compromise, he parks where it isn't going to bother you and doesn't drive his sled across anyone's field bed. Shake hands, make a friend, he might even let you use his hut from time to time.
  6. That is a great link Sinker, thanks! Amazing how different the two of them are. Now, who do I believe?????
  7. Thanks Rattletrap2, just helping out was my intention but in the past I have gotten scolded because someone "read between the lines". and figured I was trying to pull a fast one and make a profit or something. Guess I'm a little gun shy these days. can't post specific information on locations, tackle, times..... I might infringe on someone elses private spot out in the middle of the lake. Things sure have changed since this board first started.
  8. Saddly no. As much as I would love to get back to working the grill, I have to be in Goddrich that weekend but I trust your years working under me as an apprentice have prepaired you to handle the situation. I am in the process of trying to scrounge up some prizes: Hey, how about a certificate for a free tune up on an auger/trimmer/chainsaw/lawn mower (only one) (no lawn tractors) including parts (excluding piston, cylinder, or main component) (Fuel lines, fuel filter, carb kit, spark plug, that sort of thing) and labour? Would that be something that might add to the prize table? If so, consider it done. I am at a loss here as to what I can do, cash is a little tight for us right now.
  9. Nothing more special than a new addition to the family, All the best to Mom, Dad, and the new addition.
  10. First of all mods if this is not appropriate I apologize, please pull it immediatly! I just stopped in at Lunge Haven Cottages and they have a sign in the window, "Ice Hut Rentals" Just wanted to pass it along for anyone that might be looking. Their phone number is 705-324-6610
  11. I just had a look at the long range forecast for our area, temperatures way above normal for the next two weeks could make for some really dangerous conditions especially in areas where there is any current. Long range forecast for Lindsay Doesn't look like they are expecting much snow. Could make for some very comfortable fishing as long as the ice stays safe.
  12. Well, it looks like the cooking is all taken care of, I'll see what I can do to find some prizes, I'm not sure what else I can do to help since all I ever did was cook but if anyone has any ideas, let me know, I'll do my best!
  13. Glad to hear it all worked out for you. I love CTC here in Lindsay! They have always treated me really well. Now Loblaws, that's a different story!
  14. Got out again this afternoon for a few hours, drilled a lot more holes (way too many for an old man) but I did manage a few perch so I think I am starting to close in on them. I'll get the little buggers figured out. Haven't found the crappie though but one thing at a time LOL.
  15. Well, a friend and I tried our luck again yesterday, drilled a lot of holes. The Aqua-Vu worked well, we saw several fish, mostly dink perch but they wouldn't bite. We fished for about two hours, caught one walleye about 14" (a tear rolled down my cheek as I let it slip back down the hole) , had a couple of bites, but that was it. We tried everything from about 8-4' of water, used pin heads and maggots. The wind started to pick up about 4:30 so we headed back in. The catching might not have been the best but the fishing was wonderful, it sure is nice to be able to jump on the ATV and be fishing in 5 minutes. I'll probably give it another try again today for a bit, I am going to try moving out a little farther this time, there seems to be plenty of ice at least where we are fishing, I didn't measure it with a tape but there has to be at least 10".
  16. If you mean the Moorings, It is now marked Private Property, no access except to members and guests. Mike, Check your PM, I won't post a public access point openly on the board.
  17. If you are coming up my way let me know, I can do it for you under warranty, otherwise call the Mfg. and find out where your closest warranty depot is and take it into them.
  18. Those carbs don't use a "float" they use a metering diaphragm which is activated by changes in the crank case pressure and atmospheric pressure. The needle tip is neoprene with a graphite coating and shouldn't stick unless stale fuel is left in it and gums it up. Running them out of fuel all the time isn't always a good thing as the engine runs lean for a few seconds as the last of the fuel gets used up and the air fuel ratio changes, if you are going to run it out of fuel, let it idle until it quits. Running an engine out of fuel won't blow your engine up but it does cause it to run with a lack of proper lubrication and if you run it at full throttle it just causes the engine to go through more revolutions and causes more wear on the components and will shorten the life of the engine. Use a good quality fuel stabilizer, the proper oil fuel mixture, a GOOD quality 2 cycle oil (yes, there is a big difference) and you will extend the life of your engine and enjoy better performance. If it isn't running properly, get it serviced by someone thet KNOWS what they are doing and has the tools to do it properly. A digital tachometer is one of the most importand pieces of equipment in my tool box. You'd be amazed at how many things come into our shop that someone has tried to tune up; "It was purring like a kitten then just quit and now it won't start"! You check the piston and cylinder and sure enough, scored all to heck, someone had run it too lean! Dabluz, you may not think they are complicated but the technology required to meet the EPA regulations has made the setup and fine tuning of these engines critical; stratified engines are desigined to run with very precice air fuel ratios and the engines are desigined to produce maximum torque at specific RPMs. Lastly, almost every one of those carbs have limiter caps on the adjusting screws because of EPA regulations. The penilty for removing those limiters and not re insatlling them is $25,000.00 for each offence. That is a lot of fishing gear!
  19. Forget it and buy a new auger. The angles are critical!
  20. If it is still under warranty, TAKE IT BACK! Depending on which carb is on it, YOU may not be able to adjust the jets yourself and if you do adjust the jets and set it too lean, you'll toast the motor in no time and that won't be covered under warranty. You are right, it could be a fuel problem, most likely with the choke from what you describe but until I hear it working and see for myself what it is doing, I wouldn't put any money on it. There are a lot of things that could make it hard to start and run badly. Faulty ignition coil, improperly set ignition coil, a bad spark plug.....
  21. I went to have a look at it and all I got to see were a bunch of ads. Guess I missed out.
  22. I had a company approach me to do some marketing for them, they have developed a system to replace the "bottled" water units. Things are very slow at work right now for me and it looks like it might be an interesting project but I wanted to get an idea of who and why people are using the bottled water before I decide if I want to take it on. We have never used it other than the small bottles when we are traveling or fishing. Our water supply here goes through a lot of stages; iron/sulpher removal, water softner, UV, and then a 5 stage RO system for our drinking water so I don't have much experience with the "Bottled" stuff. One of the best resources I know of are the people on this board
  23. How many of you use the big bottles of water either at home, cottage, or place of work?
  24. Glad to see you back on line Bruce. I ended up having to get a new computer when my last one crashed, lost a lot of programs because the Tech at Staples didn't explain that he couldn't transfer them from my old hard drive to the new laptop without the original discs and that even then they might not work with Vista.
  25. Now that's what I mean about "many heads" I hadn't even thought about that as an option. You are right the the vex is fantastic for suspended fish and I really love it, I just can't pack EVERYTHING. We are probably going to be moving to a smaller place in the next year or two, I love it here but this place is much too big for just the two of us. Might as well start streamlining my equipment now. Gogu, it is a Fish Easy 2 Terry, the problem for me with ice fishing has always been the long drives to get anywhere and home again. Now that I can walk out my front door and be fishing in less than 5 minutes I really doubt I'll be going anywhere else, perhaps the odd trip for a G2G or some smelts but that is about it.
