After seeing your pics couldn't stop my wife from rushing to the garden center and they even had a "Blue False Indigo". I lost again space for more garlic

1 Yellow Loosestrife 5 I think it's not an Aster, it's a Dianthus "Sweet Williams"

just 2 pics from today, garlic planted in Oct 2014 and Chicory Green Grumolo, Trout lettuce and Royal Red lettuce ready to transplant

This year we are giving up on planting any cabbages because of the hordes of cabbages worms eating anything last year. What are you doing against these cabbage white butterfly?
-
That looks very good! I would like to show you one pic, made it day before yesterday: Our Chicory Green Grumolo from last year is the first lettuce we are harvesting since 2 weeks. And the serious angler grows "Trout Lettuce" for sure - you can see the seedlings left and right of the chicory waiting for more space ;-) btw: North of Blind River area

Had the same games this winter... The only way I could catch these lazy guys was with a tiny small dead minnow. Let the minnow slowly sink to the bottom, wait, lift it fast for 2 or 3 secound one or two feet and let it sink to the bottom again. After that my float always went down... For the fish this looks like to be an easy to catch bait... Btw, I caught small lakers and rock bass! in 60 feet under the ice. Forget it.

Made some river floats. (Test results added)

Well, I think we fish very similarly? Look at this old thing, with snap on the end, a modified CT bobber I used for years. But it's more fun for me to fish with a bit nicer float... -

Well, as I wrote I don't really like cork. For my floats I use local eastern white cedar. Whatever, I have an old small lathe and for shaping cork or cedar I use sanding blocks with different sanding papers. I build these sanding blocks, each fits 1/4 sanding sheet. -

Just googled for the fish image I was searching for. Printed it out on paper the size I needed and varnished it -

No slip tube necessary. Just one ring at the end of the float. Way better than through the whole float. You can easy make the ring and secure with a bit of shrink tube. This float I made from eastern cedar, always use it as slip float. -

No idea about the seeds. We bought a small plant from Canadian Tire, 1.99 or so, it's 2 years old now and in a bonsai pot on the window sill, just blooming Peppers like small pots, a flower pot is good enough see my pic Info for this pepper: http://myfolia.com/plants/5-chili-pepper-capsicum-annuum-longum-group/varieties/145631-loco

Maybe the Loco Pepper is a good alternative. We use one small pepper in different recipes. Easy to dispense since it is small. CT have the plants in spring. Maybe your dad like it since it is a attractive ornamental edible pepper My wife loves the cherry peppers over all. Not very hot, but hot and lots of pepper flavour too.
-
we like our small Loco pepper. It's rated ~25.000 scoville - Habaneros are between 100.000 and 300.000 For me, it's hot enough
-
Ghost pepper as recommendation? I wouldn't dare to touch/cut it with bare fingers, would never mix it into my meal. What are you doing with that pepper? For me it is "not edible".

Same here. Maybe you like to boost your lettuce with a real healthy chicory. One of the best for mixed lettuce, earliest in the spring and it's coming back after winter. A hit for cooking the whole year, 3 weeks after planting the seed until frost. http://westonseeds.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_35&products_id=214

Well, as an alternative for a rocky garden, how about flower pots? Here are some from our garden
-
Yes, what we are doing: In the fall we cut off a couple tips of the tomato (tomato: brandy wine) plants. Planting these tips in a flower pot and with a bit luck you have tomatoes at christmas at your window sill. Plant it back into the garden in the spring. We have now 3 year old brandy wine tomato plants. Brandy wine is an heirloom beefsteak tomato Furthermore we have chili plants like hot banana peppers, cherry peppers and loco peppers in flower pots in the garden. During the winter they are in the house and give us fresh hot hot chilies. Very productive is the loco chili, we got way more than 150 fruit per plant during the sommer.

I use yarn, sometimes fishing line, a pearl between stopper knot and bobber http://www.netknots.com/fishing_knots/bobber-stopper-knot/
-
Yes, a snap swivel end without the swivel - the line under water not through the float! A piece of wire if not too fine would work too.
