Yes! That's why I posted that pic in my sec post... If anybody would like to use a CT float, look at this example. There is a swivel part attched to the end... You can glue it or just use a shrink tube form CT as shown in my first pic It will never freeze
-
Nooo, it doesn't work. Nooo, never try that - just to play around a bit
-
The shown float is a heavier one, just had it on hand. I always make it by myself. It's from eastern white cedar. Image on the float is a whitie. Normally I use a lighter float

95% I hook the minnow in the mouth. Wait 5 secounds after the bobber is gone before you set the hook.
-
We always use sliding bobber for ice fishing. Very good results today. The setup from top to bottom: Knot, a pearl, bobber, small split lead, swivel, one small split lead near hook, hook, minnow If you need an image I will make one - it's all in the garage, full of ice from today

One spring under 2 of the upper recoil dogs/claws was broken. Since this springs are not available alone I had to buy a compl. recoil repair kit. In this kit there are 2 of those springs and other parts includet. Dealer replaced the spring and gave me the other parts. Labour: 15 $, repair kit 19 $ I think, a very fair price.

Bluegill replied to Bluegill's topic in General Discussion
Is it that thing? http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/electric-ice-drill-adapter-0788167p.html Have you ever tried a 8" Jiffy auger with ripper blades instead of the finbor? -
Electric ice auger for more than 36" of ice?

Sounds good! Brian, I read the reports you wrote here in OFC. Also I read more about the ION auger in the internet. It seems, I should look at an electric auger by the next season. My shoulder would be happy. Tnx -
Our Health Care System can be frustrating! NF

If I deliver the letter instead of Canada Post the only one who is loosing out is Canada Post. A phone call should clarify if the results are still there and available. People here have done that. -

Cliff, as you know I'm coming from a different country: There, a doctor sends you to a MRI specialist. This specialist always talks with you and after that he makes the MRI and has a look at it immediately. He is there! After that he is talking with you again, about his result. He speaks this result to a voice recorder and you have to wait until it is written as a short report to paper. Maybe that takes an hour. You have to bring this paper and the images he made immediately to your doctor. Your doctor can react the same or the next day. Normally there are after a specialist visit no doctor appointments necessary, but maybe you have to wait a few hours. Here: My wife had a MRI. No specialist was there, no communication. A nurse? made an image, said she was not payed for and allowed to comment on what she saw in the image! After weeks we found out that the results were saved to a CD. This CD was laying around at the specialists office for weeks. For these cases, the health management is bad. We have internet, we have fax, we have phone. And the patient is there who can bring the results to his doctor immediately. But often specialists are not able/allowed to give you any information about their result right away, your health. Unbelievable. If you are lucky your doctor gets your result with Canada post? after weeks, if he isn't for vacation for weeks. And if the mail gets lost - no news is good news. Good luck for your wife and you. -

Your own experience? Would be happy with 8 holes in our solid ice. A bit south of -15C is cold enough for me. -
Electric ice auger for more than 36" of ice?

Algoma area -
We have now near 36" of solid ice, no snow layers between. Since it's mid february, the ice will be thicker by the end of season. Any experience out there with electric ice augers like ION under these conditions?
-
Tnx for your answer. I think the problem is mechanical. Meanwhile I found out that there are 2 claws inside the recoil with thin springs underneath. It looks like one of those springs is broken since one claw is loose and doesn't come back into the right position. Brought the powerhead to a small engine repair shop. Hope they have this part or a new recoil available and I can go ice fishing soon.

Next problem with my Jiffy stealth ice auger. Think I should throw it through the next hole if I'm ever able to drill one. Men, I hate that auger. So, the new thing is that the recoil gets stuck when I try to start it. If I start/pull carefully slowly all seems fine, then the harder pull to start it and it gets stuck. Very bad for the shoulder... The decompression button I pressed for shure. Is there anybody who had that problem?

Btw, I'm a senior...
-
I didn't want a political discussion. Just interested how many seniors were willing to spend some money, e.g. for stocking more fish. So obviously nobody bought that license?
-
I'm interested if any of you over 65 bought this optional license? https://www.ontario.ca/environment-and-energy/what-65-plus-fishing-licence

dry your hands with a towel during ice fishing use coconut oil - google for coconut oil and skin benefits wear gloves

Ok, after I bent the ripper blade back I sharpened the blade with a Jiffy blade sharpener too. Sharpened the center pin with a file. Today I drilled 8" holes through 18" solid ice with no problems. Way better than before. Tnx to all for your help!
-
Ya, tnx you guys. Just comming back from the basement... Bent it back and I think it looks way better now. Since I know now that the angle is not normal I bent it back. Here is the pic now. Will test it the next days and will write the result. Tnx all for help!
-
Yes, that's why I ask if the kink is normal. I can see the whole kink up to the welding. If it's normal then I try other things. Never ever bumped it, the blade is fine as anybody can see.
-
Orger was in the truck full of ice, took me a while :-) Here are 2 additional photos. And tnx to the other guys. But there is no way to install the blade at the opposite site. Look at the knob and the ribs... there are extra openings for the ribs My question again: Is there anybody who can have a look at their auger where the ripper blade is installed. Is there an angle or is it flat under the ripper blade?
-
Yes, the whole shaft is bent incl up to the welding at the end. The nuts never came loose. Will try to make an other shot. Tnx.
