  1. ok my zone is #10. I know in my area that the regs for pike are 4 under 24", and 2 over 24" but the one cant be bigger then 33.9inches. I think this is pretty stupid! keeping pike under 24" is such a waste, the amount of meat you get from one just isnt worth keeping. if its under 24" or 3lbs i dont like to keep it. when i was out fishing the other day there was guys keeping pike the size of pan fry speckled trout, like come on give the poor little fish another chance to get bigger. i realize that a pike 3-5lb is probably the perfect spawner but like come on here. change the regualtions to only keeping 2-3 over 24" or 6 of whatever you want, bringing home 6 5lbers are perfect. every lake i know with pike in them are the dominate species in the lake probably because of their aggressiveness and not having a slot size probably wont affect the lakes. well thats my rant.
  2. i havent seen them. can someone send me a link?
  3. i have a tackle box with around 50-60 xraps in every size and colour. for smallies up here in the sault i found the #6 white/blue,pink,and clown xshad raps, and the #8 white xrap did the best. different lakes can be different. i suggest a few different colours and sizes and it can change throughout the day. i find xraps to be the best lures out there, they have turned my fishing world upside down. the only species of fish i didnt try with them is specks. take a look at the new suresets with the new colours!
  4. thanks limeyangler. i either carve them up use some fish crisp and fry them up in some oil or do the poor mans lobster. i tend to screw up the poor mans lobster either cooking it to much or not enough. yup i;ve eaten pretty much raw pike before hahahaha. the way i do it usually all depends on where the fish come from. if the pike come from a really weedy lake i do the poor mans lobster, if i head up northward towards chapleau i fish these pike lakes with next to no weeds and the pikes skin is almost black and i fry them up, they are sooo rich you can only eat a couple pieces.
  5. its a good show and i like to watch but i cant stand daves laugh, everytime he laughs i like to choke him or something to make him stop lol
  6. i just walk down to the st.marys and catch more then enough kings then i'll ever want. i fish small inland lakes, i feel no real need for a finder. i always do decent, i never got skunked once this year and i tried alot of new lakes. and as i said its more fun and more of a game going to a lake blind. my buddy has a fishfinder like yours and we used it once and we used it for about ten minutes. i never fish the great lakes maybe they are more useful out there.
  7. thanks leechman, your report was good to, the pike you caught were bigger then mine and nice bass!
  8. the only thing i got is a gps for getting me in and out of lakes. i dont use a fish finder or flasher or anything. a fish finder is only good for depths not anything else. i look for spots ice fishing but the shore line, i can find drop offs, points and shoals. i always seem to do good. if i dont do that well then i go back, i know they are there. its a whole game finding the fish in its self. you take the fun out using all those gizmos!
  9. hey everyone, instead of sticking at home with the family for xmas i was up early and i headed out to the lake for some fishing action. i went with my brother, my old foreman from my old shop and his buddy. we were there for 8am and did the hike out to the point as you can see in one of the pictures. There was a solid 12inches of ice and about a foot of snow on the lake. Fishing was pretty slow throughout the whole day. we were hoping for some walleyes but didnt even see one or any perch. Only small pike were taking our offerings. The pike were biting really funny. they would just suck on the minnow and not rush it like a freight train. 3/4 of the fish we got were on still lines. we'd give the line a shake then a second later the line would go down almost like they were just looking at the minnow waiting for some wild action. between the 4 of us we got 15 pike bringing home 9 of them. there was nothing of any real size to brag about, they were around the 24" mark. the pics were taken on my phone so they might be a bit poor quality but i hope you enjoy anyways. Gavin
  10. no lake in particular. i wanted it to find out where they have been stocking and try a couple of the different ones i've never been to before.
  11. alrite thanks guys! i was hoping someone could just send me a link real quick and have it instantly other then calling and waiting and waiting, who knows what they are working during the holidays to go pick them up.
  12. anybody??
  13. hey guys, im wondering if anyone has the fish stocking lists for the alomga area and also up into aubery falls area from 2005-present. i have the stocking lists for the algoma area up to 2004. i know i can get the lists from my local mnr office but this would be easier! thanks!
  14. 20" of ice? try close to 4feet and what that thing can handle! also good point with having a one year warrenty! i fish from december into april and go almost every weekend and do trips for a couple days at a time. i would give it the real test!
  15. great report! the lakers are sweet, they should go in "the best looking fish" post! i think lakers are the best looking fish out there. thanks for sharing!
  16. i totally agree with you DanC but you cant be 2 places at once, jigging one rod in your hand and the other still line rigged with one of these slammer would be ideal in my mind!
  17. i think that is such an awesome idea and that you can put it on a hand auger wow!! im in love! only thing i worry is if those batteries can actually hold up to the cold, my hand auger can handle the abuse of a motor. the only thing keeping me from buying one is the cost. im gonna put this in my favourites and it will be on the top of my wanted list for ice fishing next year. thanks alot danbo, your making me spend money!!
  18. xraps are key! check out the new suresets!
  19. hey thanks for the pics efka. now the release of the rod is the ring falls off the eyelet when the rod moves down when the fish starts to run correct? then the board falls and the flag goes up right?
  20. sweeeeet boat! thats a boat that your mother would be proud of lol. you could have atleast put the fish on a stringer lol
  21. http://www.gameandfishmag.com/fishing/icef...g/gf_aa016205a/ http://www.slammertipup.com/slammertipups.html theres some links to the slammer tip ups. pretty neat idea! when the tip up goes off it sets the hook. has anyone tried these or made there own. i like the idea i may try making some for myself and friends
  22. yup study online and do it online. i actually found a few parts difficult. like what lights your suppose to have on when you dock in a marnia at night and questions about notifying coast guards and questions like that. i have no idea i fish back lakes with a little 12foot boat im never out on superior or anything. i had the test open on my desktop, had my laptop beside the desktop with the study/answer sheet and my buddy had my brothers laptop up with the answer pages to. it was quite easy LOL. its $50 and another $10 if you fail and have to rewrite.
  23. i say drive up through michigan to sault ste. marie and head north east towards the chapleau or wawa area. alot better fishing then south east. there are resorts in some areas but the best fishing is going ad bringing a tent or camper and parking at a lake for free. you guys just have to pay for gas, food, and booze. i know of lots of spots if interested pm me.
  24. great report! and im impressed that your out on the ice with your truck already before new years! gonna be a good year, might have to get an extension for my auger this year lol. thanks for sharing
  25. ok i'll make it my goal for 09 to post many reports and pictures and make it to the top ten!
