  1. Garmin is free and you don't have to upload anything. They say you can store 1700 hours of mapping from the regular (non-imaging) transducer on a 2GB card. Should be able to get a lifetime on a 32 gig one.
  2. Not sure Bill. I'm not a fan of Birds as I had a bad experience with one in the past. First impressions can turn a guy off in a heartbeat. This is also the reason I'll never buy a Chev!!!
  3. I just purchased one of these to replace my older Lowrance unit. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/on-the-water/fishfindergpscombos/echomap-chirp-93sv/prod529893.html My biggest need in a new unit was the map making ability. While Lowrance and Hummingbird both offerthe ability to make your own maps, this is the only manufacturer that does it real time. They are also less expensive than units sold by the other two manufacturers and there are more units that can make maps. The issues I have been hearing about with Lowrance's customer service is what steered me away from them.
  4. I also have a propane forced air unit in my place here in Yellowknife. Yes, they are quite loud. Mine also clicks when it fires up. There is also a fan in the vent stack that works with the pressure switch. These fans tend to crap out after a while as well. They let the system know if the flue is blocked. They won't fire if it is blocked so the house doesn't fill with CO.
  5. I live deep in the heart of Kam Lake. Not the land of $400K trailers on 20' lots!!!
  6. GEEZE!!!! You guys will complain about anything!!!! Yesterday the ENR came and trapped my pet wolverine and relocated it out of town!!! They kidnapped my buddy just because he walked into a school yard last week. I'm gonna miss the little guy.
  7. Ice building goes into high gear next week!!!!
  8. I found the same so I went to a coated braid and it's very similar to mono in the way it sheds water. The stuff I use is Tuf-Line Supercast. Used to be called Duracast. It's not ice specific so it comes in bigger spools which is nice. I use flouro leaders on my braid. Flouro line is terrible in the winter. It gets really stiff and coily.
  9. Good article in Macleans about my work and their "on the land" approach to education. http://www.macleans.ca/education/college/aurora-colleges-land-camps-steep-students-in-indigenous-culture/
  10. North West of there. Closer to the Yukon and Inuvik. About 700kms or so NW of Bear on the Peel Channel of the Mackenzie River.
  11. Not Alaska. It's quite normal for us to have fishable ice here in Yellowknife by the beginning of November. Up North where this was caught they are on the ice in October.
  12. From todays paper. Was caught during an ice fishin' derby too!!!
  13. The problem with restaurant floors is no matter how clean it looks it has a thin film of oil/grease from cooking with the fryers. Any kind of moisture on your shoes or the floor and it's like having Teflon soled shoes on at the rink!!!
  14. Waiting on safe ice to get back out there. Ice road doesn't go in until the new year. Then I can start hauling materials again.
  15. For lakers and pike I use solid glass 32"-42" MH custom rods. Short ones in my Frabil and longer ones outside.
  16. I hate this post!!! Every time I see it I see Welland Panties!!!! I expect to open it up to see scantily clad Niagara area coeds!!!!! Not a post about panfish!!!
  17. My buddy just put up a set of those projector lights. He got his at Home Depot.
  18. Looks like Matthews has his mojo back. 2 goals and assist in the 1st period!!!!
  19. It's awful!!! We're 7 places ahead of last year and the dang team is playing 60 minutes each game!!! How the heck are we supposed to get another #1 pick like this!!!
  20. Yeah, they smoked the #1 team in the West pretty convincingly.
