  1. It's only gotten worse since you were here Bunk. Last week it was black rain and it is a dark orange right now. The road South is still closed and there are nearly 100 rigs on the South side of the closure waiting to bring goods to town. It is a special place, especially when it's isn't all on fire!!!
  2. So our brutal summer of fire continues. Nearly 6,000,000 acres burnt so far with 4,700,000 acres in the North Slave region. Air quality has been brutal and our only route to the South has been closed more than it has been open. It's closed again today for some unknown reason. Been choking up at the cabin lease pretty bad as well. You would figure all the smoke would get rid of the bugs, but the black flies are pretty bad today. Did get my dock completed except for my mooring whips (ordered this week and picking up at the new Cabelas in Anchorage next month. The last 4 anchor boulders have been installed as well as the shore side chain retainers and chains. Also finished installing the dock edging. Need to finish my trail and hopefully lay out my foundation before the end of the weekend.
  3. Tons of rose hips and blueberries up in my neck of the woods.
  4. The following day i received a link to a customer satisfaction survey. I filled it out and praised the employee for her fabulous customer service. I also said how surprised I was as most of my previous encounters had been horrible!!
  5. WOW!!!! One of a ton of roads is closed and mass hysteria ensues!!!! Our one and only road back to civilization has been closed more than open over the last month due to a 1.6 million acre fire!! So far today it has been open for 2 hours and 20 minutes. This would be the road that all of our food and supplies come up on.
  6. Yes you drill all the way through and seal with Sikaflex or 3M 5200. Go to your local dealer and purchase the mounting bolts, nuts and washers (they usually have them in a kit. And yes they are stainless and no problems with corrosion.
  7. Yup, the engine needs to tilt up one or two holes on the pin. Tucking it further into the transom will push the nose down even more increasing the plowing issue.
  8. Exactly!!! That's why I always keep an eye on mine when we're out at the lease. Lots of wolves and bears in this area. Not too mention cougars and wolverines!!!!
  9. Should have said vacation home. Out side of Southern Ontario the word cottage is not used in many places.
  10. Probably a Grey Timber Wolf and a big one @ that. Have seen some big ones but no where near as big as some of the white wolves I have seen on the tundra. Saw one back in the winter of 2007 that was huge like a Great Dane. When I pulled onto the lake with my sled it decided it wanted to come and say hi!!!! I pinned the throttle on my 1000cc toy and said SEE YA!!!!
  11. I'm going to the one in South Edmonton on Thursday.
  12. I recently picked up some used Bell Sat receivers and just called Bell to have them transferred over to my account so I can hook them up and use them. The young lady on the phone was absolutely wonderful to deal with. I told her about the machines and that the previous owner had cancelled his account. I wanted to make sure that I could activate them on my account. She asked me for the R#'s of the units and did a search on her system and found they were still attached to the old users account. She then put me on hold while she called the old owner to see if she could get permission to transfer the units to me but got no answer. She did a little digging and found that the fellow had indeed cancelled his account so she went ahead and put them in my name!!! With all of my other dealings with Bell I have wanted to eat my 12 gauge!!!! This was a very pleasant surprise to actually talk to someone who wanted to help me and went above and beyond to do so!!! That's my feel good story for the day. I now return you to your regularly scheduled hell!!!
  13. I moved up here to get away from Southern Ontario summers.
  14. Record high here in Yellowknife yesterday may break another today.
  15. I can just see Leon around the fire with his buddies after your plane took off for the South. "HAHAHA!!! Had dem krazy round eye's believin' every word of the big foot tale!!!!"
  16. Maybe not the next big storm Lew, but I can gaurandadgumtee ya they won't make it through the coming zombie apocalypse!!!
  17. +29C right now in Yellowknife. Feels like 32.
  18. We could use some of that cool wet weather up here. Hasn't rained since June and the temps have been hot and windy. T'was 27 today and will be again tomorrow.
  19. I know how you feel. My allergies were getting really bad in the 90's and the only thing that helped was moving to Yellowknife!!!!!! No kidding, a lot less crap in the air up here than in Ontario. This year being an exception as the fires have been killing me. I had actually forgotten I had allergies until I went to Florida @ the end of February. My whole 7 week vacation I suffered with the worst allergies ever. Bad enough that when I got home I went to the Dr. about testing. Will be going to Edmonton the 1st week of August for the tests.
  20. What? You a non-believer? I took this pic last year while fishing the East Arm of Great Slave Lake.
  21. Don't you mean, where's the EpiPen Bill?
  22. If Bill ate it he would have to meet you on the other side. He's allergic to fish.
