  1. LOL any excuse to do that....
  2. ok, we will have to get together to check if it is the right size, I think I thought it was
  3. well I forgot all about it... did we check yet to see if the one I have on my antenna fits yours ..I have the one for mine ifmit was the same I can get the part number and we can get one form one of the radio stores
  4. I was always taught that on the water it doesn't make as much difference as on land the line of sight is how these short wave lengths work..you can get some skip over the e layer of the atmosphere but not a lot and not dependable so, The maximum theoretical distance that the two boats can communicate is 9.1 miles (4.2mi + 5mi) and The maximum theoretical distance the distant boat can communicate with the tower is 17 miles (12mi + 5mi) unless the waves are 15 feet high I would go with the longer great gain antennas..if you want to talk to airplanes then the short low gain antennas will shoot the signal high....I have been a ham radio operator for over 20 year, so I have some idea of what I am talking about.....got my license back when you had to be able to build a transceiver to pass the course ..and morse code
  5. nice looking boat there must be open water some where
  6. you would need to hook up at the breaker I don't have the fancy thing that starts the gen and runs the house all by itself in a power outage but what you can do is run the gen to the breaker box and hook it into a 220 set of breakers when there is a outage turn the main breaker off any breakers you don't want to run off and the breakers to the gen on start gen... I have fridge and lights and tv and fan for my furnace running..I turn off the hot water heater and a few other things....if I want hot water I need to turn off fridge and a few other things once the water is hot turn the breaker back off....in summer if I turn everything off but lights..I can run the air conditioning when power is restored you turn breaker for gen off in the panel and main poer breaker back on and you are good to go..if that makes any sense
  7. forrest, you are correct but because he didn't want a longer antenna, I assumed he would not want to move it higher, would be much the same as getting a longer antenna and as for "An antenna that is designed for a particular application will refocus the available wattage to a direction that another antenna will likely pick it up. For example you do not want your antenna transmitting to space, that just wastes wattage." as much as that is 100% right, it really does not apply to signals on the water different wave antennas can change the angle at which will leave and so if you are in a city you want one that sends the signal at a high angle to get over the tall buildings but on the water the ground plane is the same from one end of the lake to the other so the marine vhf antennas don't vary as much as other vhf . any 2m amp would do as long as you are within the freq. wattage limit....
  8. Now that's what I am talking about the OFC Family
  9. a real expensive radio will help a bit but there are only 2 ways to increase signals longer antenna or increase watts you can buy a vhf ampliflier
  10. see the narrows are open enough to launch a boat, just like I said
  11. lovetofish, I was fishing right beside you for a while
  12. Well it has been some crappy days sense my ATV went missing, but today I thought I would welcome spring with some river fishing most of the places I post about for crappie around simcoe are open/ somewhat open or will be later this week I have not picked up my big boat yet so I put the folding boat on the back of the truck and off I go.. lots of ice flowing down the river and junk, tons of junk floating by I tried under the bridge but not much luck then by the fallen trees and picked up a few then I fished the edge of the remaining ice and there were lots there... so I played for a couple of hours and came home.. but I was on the water..yippy.. <a href="http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/c52/Mrbeee1954/?action=view&current=PHTO0003-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c52/Mrbeee1954/PHTO0003-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/c52/Mrbeee1954/?action=view&current=PHTO0004-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c52/Mrbeee1954/PHTO0004-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/c52/Mrbeee1954/?action=view&current=PHTO0006.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c52/Mrbeee1954/PHTO0006.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/c52/Mrbeee1954/?action=view&current=PHTO0007.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c52/Mrbeee1954/PHTO0007.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
  13. DAMN DIRTY APES he was a star
  14. FTA getting the free channels are fine, but not enough choices for most people FTA using third party bins to get bell or dish, if you don't mind that it is illegal, then think of it as a hobby at best, because all but one make, is down as much as it is up ..a hobby I have the expressvu 9242 dual tuner dual record HDTV receiver with the big channel package...
  15. now wait solopaddler has be here about a year and one half..hardly in the old boys club.....LOL..a good fisherman who can tell a great story with pictures Irishfield I think I have been around here 3 times as long or longer, he just posts a lot and helps out anyone who needs it along the way.did I say he post a lot ......I will pay for that one just because someone around here states his opinion, doesn't mean he's in the old boys club.. I know. cause I'm the doorman for the club........ people around here do state what they think.......it's not a personal attack...just their opinion
  16. well it was not a bomber that's my secret sheephead lure but Joe did tell me to get rid of it and use real walleye lures
  17. that was pretty darn good
  18. I did do a little test... and trolling for walleye less then 15 ft of stained water it made no difference at all... in the one clear water lake we trolled it did seem to make a little difference, but not a great difference using jigs for small mouth bass I saw a day when you could not catch a bass on mono, I was the guy using mono after he caught about 15 bass and I had not caught one, even after trying many lures and using the same one he was, he said are you using fluoro on your line cause I am I said no didn't bring any I grabbed one of his rods and started catching bass, one for everyone he caught.. I switched back to mine a few times but just couldn't get one on mono near the very end of the day it got cloudy I went back to the mono and caught fish so I really believe that the clearer the water the slower you fish and more you need floro but have not put it to the test in deeper water, but would think it will not be as much of a factor
