Floating for steelhead using a spinning reel
StoneFly replied to heri0n's topic in General Discussion
Lol,..I dunno man,..I fish some pretty woody areas and when you have to lock down in a millisecond to prevent a fish from burying itself in the logs I cant imagine a faster way to do then simply tightening your finger,...When I used a spinning reel for several years,...I used to adjust the drag mid-fight and this was effective, but more of a pain in the butt,...with a pin its just finger pressure. I had a hard fighting fresh scapper on last Monday and this fish faught like it was 10+lbs and it just would stop goin to where he wanted to go which happened to be around a corner of some rocks all i could do was lock it down real quick and eventually turn him. I think the spinner woulda lost that fish. Hey 'Champ' you watched that fight, I was standing on the Blocks and my Fish came into your space and almost disappeared around the corner...Didnt it remind you of a fresh August Nook ? thats what it felt like with the shoulders on that puppy. -
Floating for steelhead using a spinning reel

Definately a long Rod Helps with using lighter lead and keeping your line off the water and tight. The Spinner is fine, however the CP offers longer drifts with tighter lines,..smoother more natural drifts and when you have a Big fish on,...nothing beats the manipulation of the drag, you can go from all to nothing and everything in between in a microsecond. Cant do that with a drag system on a spinning reel, hence you will lose less bigger fish. -
4 feet long, 100lbs, feed like mad and they jump? I guess worst case scenario, they would be fun to catch, lol. Jokes Aside, its kinda scary.

Ive never done any top water or Dry flyfishing for salmon or steelhead,...but on many occasions,..usually around dusk I have witnessed steelhead and salmon surfacing to eat something on the surface,...its pretty cool to watch.

WOW,..nice Job on the chromers in the dark and the brown too,..but those Walleye are HUGE!!! -
was just curious as the fish you posted was stale but small,...and the ones under those logs can be BIG,....I guess you lucked out,...as the bigger ones might have dragged you right under them logs....can you swim? ..lol... ..I know the the exact spots you fish and I just want to add some caution becasue you will lose hooks on fish under there and I know you have, to say you havent is silly and anyone else that knows it will laugh also..,...the Key is to lure them out before they hit...then keep them out,......but a strong lead is a great start!!!!
-
Well,..if thats a resident Brown,..Double Kudos on Laz,..but it was holding where all these fresh chromers were,..doesnt make sense...However,,...who knows...if someone does,..Chime in.... SALMON....What you talkin bout Willis ?....there is a whole lotta chromin to be had before the nookies,..atleast 6 more months,..and then nookies in in about 8 months or so..and ..hopefully many Cohos and God willing ATlantics
-
Why resident Bill? Just asking,..I have no idea...my thought was it just came in with the very fresh run...but came in late...thoughts?
-
Laz,..you did great today,..once we (you) started fishing that pocket...it was game on,...I wish I had have come over before you landed your 2nd fish instead of 4th in 20 min,..lol....I might have landed quite a few more for my tally.....that was sickola,...those Chromers were on fire for that hour,....the next learning curve is all about,..'when they aint on fire'....we talked about that today,...it will all come in time,...Again,...Good Job!!!!! Before its done,..I have a question for Admin....187 replies and 6703 views or so...is this post some sort of record?

Lol,..Well I dropped My cam in the river for like 10 mintutes last week,...Finally got it back working,..I think there is a little silt still inside,..when the lense pops out,..i can hear the silt grinding,.. Maybe I should do it in clean water and let it dry see what happens,..lol...pushin my luck though I think.

My NEW Wading boots are slippery as ...... in the mud
StoneFly replied to splashhopper's topic in General Discussion
Lol,..that sounds ALOt like when my buddies and I invented our own snowboarding boots over 20 years ago,...we took some oversized sorels,...and took the liner out and then inserted front load skiboot liners,...at the time it was the only way to go as you couldnt buy snowboard boots back then in ON,..much less snowboards,...then again only one resort in Ontario allowed us rubes to contaminate their prestine skiing hills,...Lol,..look at them hills now... -

Even though it was under water for atleast 10 minutes,...i just popped the batts back in and it actually turned on, but no screen,...lol....im drying it out a little more to see what will happen, but you are right, the next cam is waterproof for sure....however if this 2004 3.2 megapixel comes back to life after that it deserves some more pics...

I got thousands of little freezer type Zip bags that hold enough for 100 roe bags each, although I usually only put enough for fifty. make sure they are cured first, place in bag get a small straw like one of those little brown coffee straws, insert just enough to pass the zip....close the rest removing air with your fingers,...suck,... pull the straw and zip...as good as airtight,...wrap each little baggy in paper wowel and tape it,....put all your little baggies with a paper towel in a bigger baggey and repeat the straw procedure. then wrap the bigger baggy in paper towel and newspaper. then Freeze. dont forget to label it.
