  1. That's impressive !
  2. My in-laws just bought a place on Lorimer Lake (just NE of Parry Sound) and we are heading up there in the next week or so to check it out.Does anyone have any fishing advice/locations for that lake. I can't find any info on the lake but i'm sure someone here can help me out. Thanks
  3. Thanks guys , I like the idea of leaving the mesage in the jar for the owner or the next guy. I would feel a little guilty about using someone elses boat but at least this way I could say thanks !!!I just might leave my boat at home on the next 4x4 fishing trip(alot easier) and use one of the stashed ones . Cheers and Tightlines 4x4
  4. I was wondering what the board thought of this. I travel too alot of hard to reach lakes in central Ontario and in all most every lake there is an old boat or boats pulled up on shore and tucked away in the bush, not locked up.Now the question is do you think these boats are free to use in these lakes ? Does anyone just use them ? Do just the boat owners use them ? I've seen some boats in lakes that have trees growing in them they have been there so long !!! I feel it is such a waste to see these boats rot away with out using them. What started me thinking was I was at a lake in May and ran into a group of guys fishing there and they told me they were just going to leave the boat up in the bush and if anyone wanted to use it they could as long as it was put back and hopefully not damaged. They didn't want to drag it back out with them. If I left my boat on one of these lakes I would have no problem with people using it as long as they didn't wreck it ! What do you guys think ??? Cheers
  5. Hey Bill Check PM !!
  6. Thanks guys , i'm going to try finding the baitfish on the graph, stopping, then start jigging. I'm not too sure if the fish are going to be up shallow still, but possibly , funny spring weather wise !! The trip is planned for early next week so hopefully the temps. stay some what cool , last year we went it was hot, sunny and calm , not good laker weather!!! Any more laker tips ???
  7. Hey everyone here's the story, we fish a fairly large secluded lake every year and we are pretty successful flatlinning spoons for the "greys" but I would like to refine my approach. I have read and heard that jigging these guys is the way to go, I have tried it but no luck. I am looking for some ideas on jig types and areas in the lake to start. I do have a finder so should I be looking for humps and points ? Last year I looked for the "hooks" on the screen stopped and dropped out the jig and started jigging but no fish, maybe i'm using the wrong jig (white tube) Hopefully someone here has been successful jigging for lakers and can help me out and point me in the right direction ! Our trip is planned for next week. Cheers
  8. I did this last year , we jumped on the via in Folyete (west of Timmins) and it took us north to a camp in Elsas. It sure is an experience. The luggage car was full of canoes and gear, not what you expect to see !!!!!! If you want some more info send me a PM
  9. Thanks guys , I think we are going to wait and see what the wind conditions are going to be like . Calling for moderate NW winds so Wasaga could be out anyway !!! No one here fish Gbay yet for rainbows ???
  10. As per an earlier post I am heading up to the mouth of the Notty this weekend to try my luck flatlinning for some rainbows. Has anyone been out in the bay recently ? If so any tips !!! What are the conditions at the mouth ? Should we try some where else like Craigleith or Thournbury ? Thanks
  11. Heading up to G Bay this weekend to try our luck on the rainbows.Hoping to get out at Wasaga but not sure with all this snow how the conditions will be.Has anyone here been flatlinning at the mouth of the Notty yet this year ? Any tips would be great ! Thanks
  12. Did a little fishing this past summer near a town called Foleyet in northern Ontario and there is a small bar in the town with a "white" moose head on the wall. It got hit by a train a couple miles out of town. There is also several pics of these white moose in the bar as well . The locals in the bar told me that these moose inhabit this area of Ontario . Foleyet is a small railway town 100 km west of Timmins. Cheers Dave
  13. Nobody fishing Algonquin this year !!!!
  14. I'm heading up to Algonquin in a couple of days to do a little fishing and I have a couple questions. Has anyone fished Merchant or Big Trout and which lake is better ? I'm leaning toward Big Trout but i'm not sure. Is Big Trout worth the extra portage ? This is my first interior trip so any help on fishing and camping spots in these lakes would be a great help. Thanks Dave Oh ya , any tips on lures and colours will help as well !!
  15. Just to add a little story to this and Toyota customer service,I have a 94 toyota 4x4 that I purchased in 95 and it runs like the day I bought it and also takes me "anywhere" Well a couple of years ago the truck developed a coolant leak so I took it into the "stealership"to get it checked out and of course it was the head gasket $$$$$$$, but to my astonishment the "stealership" advised me that there would be no charge to me due to a recall. Now this was a 10 year old truck at the time so to hear the recall still applied to me was great news and great customer service on Toyota's part. They even advised me that if the truck required a new engine due to the head gasket leak that they would replace that free as well . In the end there was no engine damage just a replacement of gasket and a few other things but still the cost to Toyota Canada was roughly $2300.00 .Good deal eh !!! O ya they also replaced a steering linkage 2 years ago under a recall as well,I think that was around $500.00. All I have to say is good on you Toyota and keep building the best 4x4's around, IMO of course ! Loyal Toyota owner 4x4 (Dave)
  16. Well I thought I might get more replies but thats okay ,thanks to those who did !! I can't even get very much info off of the internet so I guess it will be wait till you get there, then find out. I'm sure it will be great I just like to be prepared. Cheers 4x4
  17. Hello everyone I have been away for awhile and it's good to be back !! I have a couple of questions for the group. Has anyone here ever fished Kapuskasing Lake (Chapleau Game Reserve) and if so what is it like ? I am planning a trip up there this summer to do a little fishin but I have no idea what it's like and what to take for lures. We are staying in a lodge just outside the town of Elsa. Any info would help me out alot. Thanks in advance 4x4
  18. Just returned from a trip in the Parry Sound area last night and thought I would give everyone a little heads up regarding the forest fire dangers in that area. Arrived at the lake on Tuesday afternoon , when we got to the lake I first noticed that there was alot of smoke coming from the far side of the lake . We got the boat in the water as soon as possible and I took off to see what was going on , met up with a couple that advised me that one of the islands was on fire and the MNR Fire Rangers were just arriving by helicopter . The couple told me that they grabed there coolers and tried to put it out using lake water but it was too big and smokey. Good job to them ! The rangers arrived by helicopter and were literly dropped with there gear right on the island. A pump was also dropped to pump lake water out of the lake and into the hoses. The rangers put the fire out but there was still alot of damage done. These guys did a great job ! The rangers had to stay over night to watch for hot spots and while we were there talking to them a couple shot out of the ground and this was 4 hrs after it was put out!! and yes they all had tents and gear for the long stay. The next day the leader put a call in for a pickup and let them know it was out,and an hour later the MNR helicopter flew in from Haliburton and picked them up and they were gone, all in a days work. I was very impressed with the job they did and the helicopter pilot was one hell of a driver to get these guys in and out of such a tight and dangerous spot(I was told these drivers are the best of the best and I believe it) The team leader advised me that it was probably set by a careless smoker and he took the time to show me were it started , WOW !!!He also told me this fire was smoldering for a couple of days before it took off. So in the end just be carefull with your fires because the landscape can be changed for ever with one mistake.
  19. I heard this last night but I don't now if it is true or not.The MNR are going to make an anouncement in the next couple of days regarding the lifting of the ban on motors in the park(6HP and under are going to be allowed) I hope this isn't true because that is what makes Algonquin a one of a kind and a special place for all of us. I'm going to make some calls on Monday regarding this and try to get some more info. Has anyone else heard this ??
  20. I have been "caching"for about a year now, whole lotta fun!! I have 2 caches hidden in the Caledon/Hockley area. The fun thing about it, is that these caches are literly everywhere around us and you don't even know they are there. They are hidden very well and everyone probably passes one or two by in a day and they don't even know it.
  21. I have the Map60 CSX as well and it's a geat unit like a couple other members have said. The 76 floats but the buttons are above the screen instead of below like the 60 and you block the screen when you push the buttons. That might not bother you but that alone made me get the 60CSX.Either way you won't be disapointed by either unit . Cheers
  22. I got the Garmin 60csx a couple of months ago , a little pricey but a great unit. I have all of north/central ontario topo's and southern ontario road maps loaded into the unit.Great detail on the topo,s and you can find anything in southern ontario with the road mapping! Good luck and any ?'s feel free to PM me
  23. I don't know anything about this outfitter but I do know, that this area of Parry Sound (Rainbows camps)has some great bass lakes . They are just really hard to get too !! Good Luck
  24. I checked into it and the news was released on Dec.20/06 (MNR Press Release)Not that old but old enough, I guess in the world of computers!! I guess I have been out of touch for the last month , and just because I have not heard about this certainly doesn't mean I have "little or no intrest in bass fishing"That is not the case!
  25. I just recieved my Ontario Out Of Doors mag. and I read that the bass opener has been changed from the last saturday in June to the 4th saturday in June (23rd instead of the 30th) Does anyone know anything about this ? A late christmas present from the MNR perhaps !! As far as I can remember it has always been the last sat. in June ! I hope this isn't old news because i've been away for awhile and this is new to me.This gives the bass fisherman an extra week of fishing some years Cheers 4x4
