  1. Those are some nice baits ,I bet you can't wait too use them ! I have some "Pop Max" baits and they are great , some days you can't keep the bass off them !!! They are expensive though but worth it and they don't touch pike waters for obvious reasons , just bass lakes . Any luck with those cranks for bass or just steelhead ?
  2. Thanks guys , The weather is calling for calm weather the next couple of days so I think I will look for them on the lowrance and sit on top of them and jig for awhile and then move a bit shallower and flatline if that doesn't produce. I have had good sucess this year with the lake trout jigging thanks to some guys on this board and there reports !
  3. I am heading up to a lake this week that has an all year lake trout season and was wondering where whould be a good place to start looking for them ? I know in the spring they are shallow and the summer they are deep but this late in the fall I really don't know where to start. The lake is stocked with lake trout and the present population do not spawn , so i'm told (that is why there is no closed season) or maybe they still go through the motions ,I don't know. Thanks
  4. Nice find guys. This will come in handy , thank you !
  5. I discovered a back lake about 15 years ago that has great fishing , great island campsite and is very quiet , perfect spot !! Over the years the fishing has declined a bit but that is to be expected due to the increase in fishing pressure but it is still very good. Our once clean and perfect campsite has slowly become a garbage dump with old tarps , beer bottles (broken as well) propane cannisters , cig. butts ,broken lawn chairs ,I could go on and on but I won't. One group actually left three cases of empty beer bottles behind with a bag of garbage , I guess they thought the G man was coming by on monday to pick it up . I can some what live with all this crap because we clean it up and it is done for another week or two but this past weekend took the prize for the most ignorant and just plain stupid campers ! What I discovered was that someone had taken a chainsaw and cut down a living 100 foot white pine right beside our camping spot and cut notches in about 5 others for no reason but just to be stupid , these 5 other trees will be dead in a couple of years. Our once pristine campsite used by many has now been basicly clear cutted , the site has been changed for several generations for what , a little fun with a chain saw , GROW UP !!!!!! I left the site for another year and was quite mad but now I'm saddened by this stupid act of vandalism. You know we all try to do our part with catch and release , picking up other peoples garbage and just general conservation but there probably is nothing we can do about this ! Thanks for listening DG
  6. I had the same problem with mine and it was a rear u joint .
  7. Nice report , you have to love those back lakes . I am going to a lake like that in a couple of weeks . Hopefully it cools down by then and the lakers get a little more hungry and come out of the depths !
  8. That is some balls to try and do that right under your noses !!!Glad to hear you got your stuff back. Check PM
  9. Thanks for the info. guys . As for using the same trailer that you use to tow your atv , well that could be a bad idea. I drive on some pretty wild trails and if that trailer gets damaged you are kinda screwed ! I have seen it before and I don't want to be "that guy" also they are a bit to big . TJ ,that is something i,m looking for . Thanks again
  10. I agree , go with the 2 stroke if weight is an issue. I have a 8hp merc. on my 12' and it has been great. If you can afford it go with the 9.9hp because I think they are around the same weight. 4 strokes are nice but a bit bigger/heavier and more money then 2 strokes !
  11. I am starting to look around for a trailer that I can pull behind my atv.I use to pile my gear /outboard onto the racks and away I would go but I think these trailers would be better and safer. I have seen some but they are to heavy and not enough clearance under it. Does anyone here have one of these all terrain atv trailers and could let me know what they are like ? Or maybe someone knows of a good spot to buy them . I live in the Alliston/Barrie area. Thanks
  12. It's a tough call on this one but a fish that has a hook that big wedged in it's gullet is pretty much a goner and destined for the frying pan . If it was a smaller hook I would say cut the hook as close to the flesh as possible and let her go ! I,m sure i'm not the only one here but I have seen more then once a bait hook caught in the rear of the fish and when you un hook it you have to pull a bit of line out of there as well thus telling me the fish was able to pass the hook and line all the way through. I have no idea how they do it but they can , so cut those small hooks off !!!!
  13. It's not the lures you feel bad about loosing F-is-H its that one fish of a lifetime you loose because of no leader. Take the time and get yourself some ,Trust me and the rest of the members here !!!
  14. Leader for sure , lost my biggest pike of the year with the same thinking ( I don't need a leader I have braid ) Wrong !!!
  15. Female house finch for sure , lots of them around my feeder . They love black sunflower seeds.
  16. I just started fishing Lorimer this year(just got trailer on lake) ,tough lake to figure out but I am catching small pike and bass, nothing too big. I would like to know about Shawanaga as well ,not too far from the trailer for day trips ! I have fished Manitouwabing for years and it is a good lake so I would go there instead of Mckellar . Cheers DG Check PM
  17. Wow , great report there solo , now that's some good back woods action !!! I fished in that area a couple of years ago , We fished just outside an old CN rail village called Elsas . We had a great time as well . Cheers
  18. Great report , whats that number again ? One day I will make it up there . It's reports like this and solo's that you come back too in January to get your "fix" Cheers
  19. Has any one here used these worms or had any success with these "monsters" I have heard alot of good things about them but i'm not too sure , they might be a little on the big side for our northern lakes. Any particular patterns used succesfuly with these ? I have the idea that these should catch the bigger bass. Thanks , getting ready for the 26th !!!!! DG
  20. I went out and bought the new smelt bait(looks good) for my spring laker trip , what size are you guys fishing with for lake trout ? When you say small do you mean the 2.5" one or the 3.5" one ? I got the 3.5" smelt that dives too 8' I think ! I hope this one works or should I get the smaller one ? Thanks
  21. I am bumping this old thread because I never made it up there last year to fish and the season is almost upon us this year.Any more tips on this lake or surrounding lakes for the upcoming season . Thanks DG
  22. Toyota all the way !!! I have a 94 Toyota 4x4 280,000 km and she has not let me down once , okay maybe once but thats a story in it's self. Very reliable and will take you pretty well anywhere in 4 wheel drive but like Dan said take them both for a good test drive just to see !!
