  1. Talking to the old timers and guys who have been trapping in Haliburton for 40 plus years, they all say there are no wild felines around. No lynx, bobcats or cougars. They've never seen one, never trapped one, and never heard of anyone shooting one. Me and other people have seen tracks around the Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial Park of what we think are big cats. The best I have seen were in sand at a dump. My parents were snowshoeing in the bush on the weekend. They again saw rabbit and big cat prints. They think the cat was still nearby. Anyone else have any info on this sort of stuff? I'm leaving out one detail when my parents thought the cat was close just to see if anyone else says something similar.
  2. No, a while ago I gave Huzz a charger and he didn't have to, but he left $10 Timmys card in return, Huzz is welcomed in my boat anytime.
  3. I bet we would all be surprised how many people are putting online reports under the microscope looking for spots and tips, the closer to the GTA the more vulnerable. Gotta admit, I've done it myself. It's easier surfing than actually trying lakes and spots doing trial and error.
  4. I would have one for sure if I was over-nighting. I knew a young guy, him and his buddy died sleeping in a hut on the French River.
  5. There are definitely people that try to figure spots from posts. Other stuff other than pictures can be used, stuff like the number and length of portages can give it away. Google earth can rotate the view to match up horizons in pictures. One of the guys that buggered up my one splake lake is a registered member. He has maybe 4 posts in 10 years. He just lurks and looks for information.
  6. A guy at work I hardly knew, came up to me earlier this week actually and said he knows me from OFC. I asked what's his name or handle on the board. He said he just lurks and has been doing so for years. He's probably reading this On another board a guy gave a glowing ice fishing report on a spot near my cottage. I drove by the next Saturday and there was people and pop up huts everywhere. I carelessly posted a picture and some guys I know recognized the lake. It was a great little lake. It didn't take long for them to keep everything and fish it out, now it sucks. The moral of the story, reports are great but best be careful.
  7. I don't get it either man. I was at work, it's a huge workplace, thousands of people, the Leafs were playing Arizona and TVs were on. I heard a loud, emphatic cheer. I assumed the Leafs had scored. When I look to see, there's a bunch of recognizable Habs fans looking at a TV and the Coyotes had scored. When the Leafs don't make the playoffs (quite often), I pull for the Habs or Sens because I'm Canadian and more familiar with the teams in the east. Hate is an ugly word but yeah, it fits.
  8. It does have a built in flasher. You younger guys are more adept at these electronics than me, but I don't use the flasher. I'm always on a split screen with regular sonar and 4x or 6x zoom on the bottom.
  9. I have a Helix 5 SI that I use in the boat and for ice fishing. I'm not the most tech savvy, I have played with the settings, but I have no use for SI or DI in the boat or on the ice. I really like the unit though and that's a great price (a hell of a lot less than I paid, lol)
  10. I asked for a ZR 9000 Thundercat but Santa cheaped out and brought me this. ????
  11. That's a good day. Nothing wrong with some urban fishing.
  12. Who makes the schedule? Us, the Rangers and Coyotes don't play until Friday but play back to back Friday, Saturday. Comical stupidity.
  13. The TSN most influential player of the night goes to Frederik Andersen
  14. A lot of the fun for me is watching the sonar, seeing the bait and the fish. You don't need an ice fishing specific unit either.
  15. the guy wrote this, so against your advice, I must and will go there Nossie is a potential world record walleye that was approximately 40" and 30lbs!!! I had it on, had it very close, seen it clearly, know what I saw and know what 30lbs and 40 inches are...
  16. The rain today is a good thing (rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey), get rid of the snow and start fresh, the ice is garbage. The deep lakes, Gull, Boshkung, Halls are still open. It was nice to get out though.
  17. Who would have predicted Columbus would be first place in the league, with games in hand, going into the Christmas break.
  18. I believe it. It's the big dumps of snow that came after the lakes skimmed over that buggered up the Haliburton ice. I'll be up all week next week if you want to know how the ice is Locnar. No internet, it would have to be texting.
  19. ok, ignore my previous reply, I don't know, but be safe and make sure it's not a CO concern.
  20. I don't think it's reason for concern. Whatever that stuff is looks to be the equivalent of bricks in a basic wood stove, and the bricks don't fit together totally flush and have gaps. There is a horizontal gap in your stuff too.
  21. I'm just sticking up for a guy who dared to mention CnR
  22. So what are you guys saying? You're all over the map. A CnR guy is a tree hugging twink? but you guys CnR when nobodies looking? I replied to this thread because a guy was getting castrated for mentioning CnR. to help those in shock, oh yeah, those pike in 17, they're here to stay, may as well embrace them
  23. no reports = incognito windbag, like yourself
  24. peta3a says CnR is harassing/ torturing wildlife, so that makes no sense. 4x4 on this board has caught the same laker from deeper water for 4 or 5 consecutive years so you might be in dream land. If you don't think the busy cottage country lakes could use a little help from CnR you are in dream land
  25. You won't get flack from me. As far as I know, catch and release is still legal too, and beneficial.
