Hey Steve, still plenty of time before new years.... how bout the 31st Dec?? I get off work at noon and be home for 12:30pm and then we could hit the bay for some fun fishing?? Sure looks like a plan to me to hit specks or splake or rainbows.... which ever comes first, I'm in for sure Let me know if it's a go for the 31st..... weather permitting of course I'm sure that Paul and Kevin would join us But if it's not to be.... want to wish you and yours a very Happy New Years

Forgot to mention that deer has an elite sense of smell and sight..... would definitely try to cover my scent with products available at any sporting shops so that it doesn't smell you before you get to see him. That means to wash your clothing with none fragrance soap and certainly no fleecy type products Another alternative is a tree stand.... would setup in an area where I know that has deer traffic and hope to get one that might stop & pose for your camera. You will not get notice as easily as if you were hiding on the ground.... again scent is of essence, cover it with any products or position yourself facing the wind. Your best bet is to put yourself in a preditor mind set and become the preditor..... that way you will not make any noise, choose a perfect spot and certainly cover your scent. Jacques

Sorry Dave but like others said, using a deer caller is one thing but producing results is another. From my experience deer hunting, if they're in pre-rut (late October to early November) using a grunt call often would definitely draw a deer towards you..... would be a great time to camouflage yourself and play the waiting game but in full rut (mid November), wouldn't use it as often and pay attention to any wildlife that get to pass by. Riffle hunting is only open during pre-rut and full rut and don't know what the deer reaction would be after the season is closed... may be a bow hunter would be better suited to answer that question. Hope this helps you out and wish you the best for your quest to capture a deer on camera Jacques aka Leechman

For lakes and rivers up here, I use a Shimano 6' 6" FX series medium action rod with a Shimano R4000 spinning reel combo and love it..... the R4000 comes with a big spool that can hold a lot of line and like the quick trigger mechanism..... not the most expensive but for the buck, can't complain. It's good enough for the type of fishing I do. Where it be bass or pike, the rod and reel combo feels balanced and not too tirering casting crankbaits and spinnerbaits all day It's also a great combo jigging for walleyes.... I have tw0 of them and rigged them with 20Lbs Power Pro and simply love it. Hope this helps making your choice Jacques aka Leechman

I think it's a personal choice, if you tasted deer heart and liver before and like it, then keep it. If you don't like it and know someone that does, give it to them. For me, I don't keep the heart but liver is the first thing we eat for breakfast when an animal is harvested. It also depends where the deer was shot. Most of the deer I shot was throught the heart and liver and we certainly didn't keep them. Jacques

Glen the water is so cold that just taken a pic while holding the fish and your fingers go num The bass are light colored at this time of year compared to summer Lipping a gator..... no way.... not this amigo CPRing the perch.... yeah me bad should of said "all CPR'd except the pannies" Dan, when bass hits, it's like a walleye, except the tipup stays half down and you have time to feel the weight when tugging the line and setting the hook.

Hello everyone, hope you guys had a wonderfull Christmas and that Santa was good to you all For me, couldn't ask for anything more.... Christmas eve and Christmas day was spent with family, had a great time, a few drinks and some good food... just doesn't get any better than that The 3 amigos had planned to hit good old Mcbay today for some ice fishing.... and what a day we had.... caught my first Pike and LMB and lots of perch Temperature was -16C early morning with no winds but once we got to our spot, it picked up to 20Km from the east Had a hard time finding local shops that were open to buy minnows but finally found one and the way we go. We had originally plan to leave at 9:00am but with not being able to find open shops got to our spot at around 11:00am Got our tipups setup in 12' to 15' fow rigged with hooks and live minnows and each had a jigging rod.... We caught 5 pikes, 2 bass and 20 perch all together Here is Paul's first pike and mine... Then one of my tipups go's down and to my suprise, was an LMB.... my first Real nice bucket, took a couple more shots Then it was Paul's turn and last but not least... the perch that Paul and I caught There are more pics that Kevin and Paul were able to snap.... I'm sure they will follow Had a real fun time out there.... Thanks Paul and Kevin All fish were CPR'd except the pannies Hope you enjoy!! Jacques aka Leechman
