Good thing this is just a small one.

A lot of good Fur Stoles going to waste.

The Does are really camping out in the area now. It is hard to tell but in the new camera location there is a large apple tree in the top right hand corner behind the deer. It is loaded with hundreds of apples still so the deer are also passing frequently to pick up those apples as they fall. I checked the camera again today and I have another 12 pics or so of the Does. They came by at five different times starting at 6:20pm yesterday to 9am this morning.

Hope that big boy spreads out is genetics before he takes a bullet. That is much bigger than average.

The Wife has been Busy Lately....With Her Art
Skud replied to Mike the Pike's topic in General Discussion
Great work. Your wife could make a great living selling her art so you can retire and fish. -
I am really having fun with this camera. It is way easier than getting up at 5am to see what's cooking out in the woods. The 10 point Buck only showed for one picture during the night in the past week but his lady friends are making frequent visits, day and night. I also had a new visitor, an Opossum. The Raccoons must not get along with them since they high tailed it up into the trees. I had a Doe show up during daylight for the first time last Monday Morning. But by Friday two does came by for a snack at 8:50am At 2:20pm and at 6pm. I spent Sunday morning in the blind from sun up till 9:30am and as usual only seen squirrels. I decided to move my camera out to the little field just past the deer in the pictures. The camera is now on the tree that has the black feeder block(that the Raccoons ate) on it. I dumped more apples after flattening down the tall Golden Rod. I checked the camera today and was happy to see that three Does came by this morning around 8:30am. I am hoping their presence will have that 10 point show during the day while rutting. I just have to be there when it happens. Although I am enjoying getting hundreds of pictures of Raccoons , I am not enjoying trying to keep up with them taking all the apples. I put out a fresh batch on Sat afternoon. Here is the pile at 7:30pm And now no apples at 2:30am. Guess who showed up at 5:30am to find the snacks all gone. If the wind is right I will be out before the weekend. I will try to get a video of the does.

Beauty big Buck in your neighborhood now Brian. We will have to wait for the rut before those big guys get dumb enough to poke around during daylight. I am starting to get doe pics during the day now.

Great report and pics as always

Your son looks quite proud of his Pops. It's a great feeling knowing that you kept yourself together long enough to make a good shot. Very rewarding. Good job

I understand and respect your choice on the matter. I even agree with you. That's probably why I haven't taken a deer for over ten years. I would rather watch or take pictures of deer than have to do all that work it takes to get venison on the dinner table. Much easier to buy burgers. But I have to young boys that I feel need to learn how to hunt for themselves. I hunt from a ground blind so they can spend some time with me in the field and learn the ropes. I might not be around when times get tough, they will need to fend for themselves. We must keep our heritage going, our right to hunt. Yes, baiting makes it easier for me. Considering the lack of time I have to put into hunting due to work, I will take that edge. Cheers

GCD, you bait to see who is in the neighborhood. The deer aren't going to say cheese into the camera without a good reason. You then rattle or call in those bucks when you're sitting in the stand. Would it be unsportsmanlike to hunt near an apple tree? I hear you Yanks like to hunt over the 'food plots' that are planted by the hunter. That's baiting too. It's having a bow in hand rather then a high powered rifle that makes it sporting. Leechman, it is most unlikely that I will have a crack at that mature buck. But I do know the younger bucks will run his scrap trail during the daylight to avoid getting there butts kicked by the top buck. I am hoping that some rattling will piss him off enough to have him come take a look.

Well after three weeks and about 350 pictures of raccoons a few deer decided to walk in front of the lense. The acorn Rage bait was devoured by the bandits so I dumped some apples, carrots and corn in the zone. Yes I did get about another 50 pics of raccoons but I had some other critters raid the bait. Black Squirrels a plenty Bluejays And more Raccoons The raccoons kept this Doe at bay But then the big boy moved in. I have about 20 pictures over 4 nights of this sweet 10 point. Very excited about this guy. His neck is already quite swollen for the rut. Unfortunately he is only coming around at night but hopefully that changes during the rut. I restocked the spot with 50lbs of fresh apples today and I will get some more carrots out there too during mid week. I will give it another week before I sit in the stand.

Seen a few on trailers going south on the 400 Hwy. Looked like calves and small cows. There are a few hides at Wolf's den that have been donated already.

Always see pike nabbing a fish on the line but this is a first for me.

Caught a pike in Doe Lake a month ago that was almost that bad in appearance. Very healthy though.

Really nice shots. The last buck is a beauty.

Terry, If I see a Coyote while sitting out there it will be a hat. Brian, The camera is set up about a two minute walk from my Dad's front door. The area is more of a travel corridor during the rut and a winter hang out. Lots of thick cedars nearby but no great food source. The action gets better as the temps drop.

These pictures are not as dramatic as the cougar stalking a deer pic but it is the best I have unfortunately. The coyote has yet to show his face, most of the pictures are blurry running shots. I have about 200 Raccoon pictures. I also shot some videos which were again mostly raccoons but I did also get some Turkeys and a domestic cat. I was using an Acorn Rage block which is almost gone thanks to the coons. I put out some apples and corn today so I hope to get some deer pics by the weekend.

I am still just getting pictures of Raccoons.

Doesn't everyone organize their lures like that? It keeps the amateurs from using them.

I am sure the picture will show up here again. I friend emailed me the picture and swore it was real. Once I took a look at the vegetation in the pic I knew it was from out west, not Peterborough. Good entertainment for a Tuesday night. I have been hoping to get some good pics on my Trail cam but so far it has just been Raccoons and cats.

Rumor has it this picture was taken in Peterborough. Pretty cool....one in a billion.
