  1. I would keep Eddie at 1st, he's proven he can do the job. He showed when he was E5 that he can't throw worth a damn, but when does a first baseman ever need to throw? He can scoop balls out of the dirt, which often seems to be the main job of any guy handling that position.
  2. I don't put as much stock in win-loss records as others do. A lot of it depends upon the team on the field, even a great pitcher will lose a ton of games if the rest of the team doesn't do its job. Win-loss records are perhaps the cruelest statistic in baseball. How often do you see a pitcher twirl a masterful game only to have the bullpen throw it away? Pitcher gets no credit for the win. And conversely, has there ever been a no-hitter in which there hasn't been at least one stellar play by a fielder to help it?
  3. No fear at all if they're willing to kiss that mug of yours!
  4. When it comes to selecting our leaders, remember this: Soldiers, sailors, and airmen, are only called upon to do their jobs when politicians, diplomats, and bureaucrats, fail at theirs. I thank my parents, both RAF, and will remember all my comrades, some fallen, some still alive but bearing scars, and the lucky ones, like me, who were never in the line of fire.
  5. Missed it today. Apparently it has jesses on the legs, so it's a bird lost by a falconer. I hope it belonged to the guy I'm thinking of, because he's a Grade 'A' jerk!
  6. I know there's a number of birders on here, so you might like to know that there is confirmation of a white phase gyrfalcon hanging around the parking lot of the old Golden Mile plaza at Victoria Park and Eglinton. This is quite a rarity for this area so I'll be heading out today with the family. If you go please remember basic birding etiquette; don't pester it for photos, don't get in the way of others, and don't do anything to make us unwelcome by the plaza management. I shouldn't have to stress those things, but there's always someone...
  7. I prefer to buy Canadian if I can, but not sure if I'll ever give up using a Storm Chug Bug.
  8. Beautiful stuff! #1 - Red-bellied woodpecker #2 - Red-breasted nuthatch #3 - Ruby-crowned kinglet, with the ruby crown typically hidden. Little buggers do that on purpose to confuse beginning birders.
  9. Couldn't resist throwing this together
  10. Weird, here in Pickering the power goes out whenever a squirrel farts near a transformer, last night we didn't even get a flicker.
  11. BAH! At the tender age of 17 months I survived Hurricane Hazel, Sandy is a wimp compared to her. BRING IT!
  12. Frenchman Bay is down a bit in the past couple of weeks, maybe a foot.
  13. In Barrie they've turned into rampaging bloodthirsty murderous car killers: Link
  14. There are four things more likely to happen in the world of sport before the Leafs win another Stanley Cup: 1) Soccer fans will be collectively awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2) Cleveland will erect a statue honouring Art Modell 3) The Washington Generals will be crowned NBA champions 4) Brooklyn will declare a Walter O'Malley appreciation day
  15. Topwater - Chug Bug Drop-shotting, or just generally throwing/dragging something around - Xzone Slammer
  16. Pretty sure that's the one in the nature centre at Restoule Provincial Park, I remember being profoundly embarrassed for them when I was there in August. If it isn't then it has a clone.
  17. Cool! But... I'll see your crusher and raise you one shredder. The fun really gets going at around the 0:58 mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aja7gcgRMJU
  18. Looks unappetizing, but from what I've heard they are perfectly safe for human consumption. In fact if I caught one I would probably cook it up, it removes one more infected fish from the system. A drop in the bucket maybe, but it couldn't hurt.
  19. Some poor guy tried to use Veet hair remover to do some 'manscaping'. He then posted his experience as a warning to others, you can read it here. There are no pictures, and that's probably a good thing.
  20. I did this image search for "fish vhs" and it certainly looks like it.
  21. Any that aren't made, at least substantially, in Canada. As I said in an earlier post, I'm not going to bother trying to find out where metal was mined, or where paint was made. But I don't want things that are simply assembled here, or that are assembled elsewhere from Canadian components. In some cases it's a judgement call. If you have info that anything on the list that is actually made elsewhere, let me know and it will be removed.
  22. Added! Already there as Lindquist Bros.
  23. Got an e-mail today from one of the regular participants in the Gals 'n' Pals tournaments, he and a friend have got a new business renting ice fishing huts on Lake Dalrymple, link here.
  24. Noted and added!
  25. I've tried with single shots, but I'll stick with bracketed ones. You can't bring out detail that wasn't there in the first place, all the computer can do is fake it the best it can. And when it comes to nature photography I'm a bit of a purist, in fact I almost never use flash.
