  1. Have an old cheap rod that, if I can do a bit of repair, I will donate to the TackleShare program (with an old cheap reel). It has a slight split at the ferrule, and I'm wondering how best to repair it. Was thinking of just pouring some Krazy Glue, Loctite, or any CA glue into it, but I thought I would look first for more experienced people to chime in. The split isn't bad enough right now that it prevents hauling in panfish, maybe even something bigger, but it would be nice to at least prevent it getting any larger.
  2. Name some for the common wildflowers around them, like 'Aster Bay', 'Trillium Creek', etc. Just stay away from 'Poison Ivy Pond'.
  3. If you have a canoe take the short portage to Hazel Lake, I was on it for about an hour last year and had a lot of whacks, unfortunately didn't get anything to swallow it. Plenty of cover and structure, and your skills are no doubt better than mine, should have success.
  4. Josh Johnson goes 5 innings of shutout ball? Did anyone notice in which direction the Sun set tonight?
  5. Looks like there may be one here on Google Maps: 42.934527,-80.294419, possibly another here: 42.934621,-80.310429
  6. Stolen for facebooking!
  7. Saw a guy pull an eel out of there about twenty years ago. Not a lamprey, but a genuine Anguilla. He was fishing at the site of the old marina off South Kingsway.
  8. A pity it didn't latch on to his REMAINDER DELETED DUE TO DESIRE TO STAY NON-POLITICAL.
  9. And once the worst team in MLB leaves town, we go back to losing. If this team wins 70 games it will be a miracle. Doubt I'll watch another game this year, just not worth the aggravation.
  10. Whoever sent that rock must have been a bass fisherman. Dinosaur-Killing Comet Didn't Wipe Out Freshwater SpeciesNew research shows freshwater organisms fared better than others after the most recent extinction event http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=dinosaur-killing-comet&WT.mc_id=SA_Facebook
  11. Problem solved. In between now and when I last uploaded anything, Youtube has changed the way they do things. You can no longer sign in with your account name, only with the e-mail associated with it. Why do people love to mess with what was already working?
  12. I can no longer access one of my accounts, the one to which I've been uploading my videos. Password reset hasn't solved the problem either. To hell with them then. Anyone know of another video hosting service?
  13. At the end of the season, maybe even before, I would fire all the training staff. I doubt that this bunch could keep the bat-boy healthy.
  14. When they're down by a bunch of runs try to yell AAAAAAARRRRRGGGOOOOOOOOOS!!!
  15. Time running out for world-renowned Canadian lab as transfer deal remains elusive http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/experimental-lakes-areas-time-running-out-as-transfer-deal-remains-elusive/article13382361/
  16. Frankly, it doesn't much matter if there are a few dead fish or a thousand, in the end the only figure that matters is the number of live fish out there. If there is no evidence that the population is declining, what's the problem? If there IS evidence that the population is declining, THEN it's a problem.
  17. Nice stuff! The local mink population seems to be on the rise, if the road kills I've been seeing are any indication. Must mean the water quality is getting better.
  18. On another board there was mention of people being charged with fishing too close to a place known locally as "the old broken dam", but they didn't say where it was exactly. In case I'm near there and want to avoid it, does anyone know where that is? I asked on the other board and got no reply.
  19. Ditto to all the above. In the interest of disclosure, Mark provided me with prizes for the Gals 'n' Pals tournament, but I would say the same thing anyway.
  20. Agreed, I've never really bought into the idea that seeing a line or a leader will scare a fish. If it did, I think the sight of a bunch of really mean looking hooks would spook them more.
  21. They've given up, and so have I. Probably won't bother watching another game this season.
  22. One of my favourite birds.
  23. Every so often a fish is going to die in a tournament, but never enough to impact the fishery. And then the local snapping turtle gets a feed. The old circle of life thingy.
  24. If I recall correctly, all caterpillars with any sort of fuzz are moths, but there are some moth caterpillars without any fuzz, and if it's a butterfly caterpillar then it will not have fuzz. That leaves a grey area in the smooth-skinned group, but that one would definitely be a moth, in this case the white-marked tussock moth as Mark said. And yes, it's native.
  25. Snake jus' doin' what snake gotta do, defend itself. But it seems we don't even teach people how to cross a street properly, let alone how to handle, or not handle, a snake. I wonder how many dolts are wandering around out there with earbuds on, blasting tunes, instead of listening to the sounds around them. Can't hear a car, can't hear a rattle, can't see a Darwin Award coming their way.
