  1. The poachers in the field are mostly poverty stricken locals who are just trying to feed their families. What we need to do is go after the guys at the top, the ones running the operations. Grab them from the patio outside the cafe in Zurich, where they're sipping their high-priced coffee, and take them for a little ride. Maybe drop them off near a herd of elephants, those big males can be very protective of their group. They'll stompity-stomp anything that moves, and waving money at them doesn't protect you.
  2. First thing you do is cally our best buddy and work out your alibi.
  3. Never reacted to poison ivy until I turned 30. I occasionally rolled in it for giggles, gave my Sergeant Major fits. Now I get it bad.
  4. I've heard good things about Betamethasone, but I don't know about its availability. Since it can cross the placenta, make sure you're not pregnant. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betamethasone

  6. Roy, to you it's generous. To me, it's creative laziness.
  7. Had three huge Siberian elms taken down a few days ago by a hydro crew, they cleaned up the little stuff but the big logs are our responsibility. If you've got a chain saw to cut them up then you can have them, take as many as you like. Just PM me on the board for details. Man, am I ever glad to see those things gone. According to one horticulturalist they are the worst tree to plant anywhere. Exceedingly brittle, they drop twigs and branches constantly, clogging up our rain gutters and littering the lawn, making it difficult to mow without using a wood-chipper for the job. The wife misses the shade, but maybe now I can refurbish my old telescope and do some astronomy from the back deck, it was impossible before because they effectively covered the entire yard.
  8. If that's in the Kawarthas it's tough to know which one to root for! Great shot.
  9. Looks like a hoot, one of these days I'll get me one of those machines. Doesn't have to be raining where you are, as long as you're between the Sun and rain further away.
  10. The Fairbrass brothers, Richard and Fred, turn 60 today. Is it right or wrong to post this? It's right, said Fred!
  11. Krazy glue, superglue, whatever one wants to call it, should work fine. Just make sure the pieces are very dry before applying, cyanoacrylate glues are accelerated by water so it'll set too fast and foam up if they're wet, might set too fast to bond.
  12. Yep, I screwed up there, no spots on the breast should have been a giveaway. I shall locate my Sibley guide and beat myself over the head with it for half an hour.
  13. Nice! That's a spotted sandpiper, often called a teeter-tail because for the way it wags its tail up and down constantly.
  14. The jury is still out on the authenticity of this story, but it doesn't seem completely outside the realm of possibility: http://doubtfulnews.com/2013/09/entire-knife-found-in-salmon-hmm/
  15. Fall plumage common yellowthroat?
  16. Nice! First one is either a Coopers or a Sharp-shinned, difficult to tell. Definitely an accipiter.
  17. And you still have all your fingers?! Give that man a medal!
  18. Revealing fishing spots is a judgement call that comes from experience. If I pull in a nice fish at the base of Fenelon Falls, there's no way I'm going to be cryptic about it, because it's no secret. If you've never fished there you're probably posting from some remote village in Mongolia. I have no hesitation giving away spots at George Lake in Killarney PP, because the access is pretty well restricted to the people camping there, and there are no powerboats allowed. It's not like you're going to see hordes of guys heading up there with bass boats. But I have found a couple of nice spots that I'll keep to myself for now, one is in the ________ _______ ____ just off Highway ___, and another is way up north of ________ up a dirt road called ________ _____. Nice little restaurant near there called _______ ________, good lunches!
  19. "BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T #%&*ING COOK IT!!!" - Gordon Ramsay
  20. Not strictly true these days: "The right turn on red is permitted throughout Québec, except on Île de Montréal and at intersections where road signs prohibit such turns." From: http://www.mtq.gouv.qc.ca/portal/page/portal/grand_public_en/vehicules_promenade/reseau_routier/signalisation/virage_droite_feu_rouge So if they're off the island, it's okay.
  21. Another vote for circle hooks, I haven't had a gut hook on one yet.
  22. Baitrix added, for you salmon a'fish'ionados. (See what I did there? Oh man, I crack me up)
  23. Well, doncha know that the problems in Syria are driving up oil prices? Of course, the only oil in Syria is in the olive groves.
  24. Good suggestions, both. Might try all three; glue, thread, and cover it with heat shrink. Instead of buying fly-tying thread, would some 20lb test braided work? I've got plenty of that.
