  1. Looking to rent a hut on simcoe for a couple of days with 3-4 friends. Any recommendations for outfitters? Would like to get into whitefish/trout moreso than perch.
  2. I don't know about specific outfitters but there is great fishing for summer pike 5 mins from grandview. Assume you'll find good ice fishing nearby.
  3. were you tipping the spoon or just fishing it naked?
  4. Nice catch! Curious -- how do you tell th difference between a whitefish and a cisco?
  5. Beautiful pike. 15 lbs?
  6. Walk in there with a police officer. File a claim against them (small claims will cost you $100 or something, and you'll havfe that guy in front of a judge). Also, you might want to name the shop so the rest of us know never to go there. Get your revenge that way. Better t han kickign his ass and getting yoruself into more trouble.
  7. Thanks!! Didn't think of the whitefish angle. Assume whitey fisherman use the smaller size and laker fisherman use the larger size though....no? And why remove the hooks? Why not just buy the williams whitefish in same size (it looks like the same spoon just upside down)
  8. I'm sure its a simple thing that i'm missing but why does the williams jigging spoon have the extra hooks mid spoon? I can't imagine them hooking anything...is it for holding minnow heads or something?
  9. not positive but think it shut down. Sold to a private owner who has not opened to public. I *could* be mixing it up with another place though.
  10. Thanks -- any idea where to get one relatively cheap? I saw one at LeBaron for ~$100. Will happily pay if that's the goign rate but have to assume there are cheaper options considering what it is (a bar with a blade)
  11. Anyone use an ice spud? If so, is it worth picking one up? Where are they useful (and not)?
  12. Became a US state in the early to mid 1800's. Maybe he was wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs baseball hat?
  13. GCD -- this post gave me a good chuckle. Hilarious.
  14. In 2006, $10.00 from 1940 is worth: $143.69 using the Consumer Price Index $118.99 using the GDP deflator $297.65 using the value of consumer bundle $294.80 using the unskilled wage $573.52 using the nominal GDP per capita $1,299.64 using the relative share of GDP Also the fact that Wayne wasn`t their family name. Ibelieve it was morrison or something. Also, as someone else poinjted out his father died before this guy would have been born (unless this is an old story)
  15. I think the rules are fine the way they are. I assume the only bass you could target htrough the ice even if you wanted to are those which are schooled up, and that's exactly when they need protection. I also wonder if bass suffer higher mortality rates when released during the ice season as well. Its not like they are mobile in the winter like trout or whities. Maybe they can't handle the fight (and cold-dry-air shock to the gills) the way other species can.
  16. fair enough. cheers.
  17. huh? no idea what you said about muskie hammocks. Just not sure what your opinion of that guy's hair style has anything to do wth his question about musky reels. You seem to have a lot of time on your hands. Anyway, i would get the 6501. Its a very solid, cheap (or value-priced) and fantastic reel. Only downside is that its a high gear ratio and low power....the bigger double bladed inline spinners are probably a little much for this reel.
  18. Don't listen to this guy -- not sure if he has anything to do with the free time in his life but pick fights on internet messageboards. I would get the 6500 (or 6501 if you're like to reel with your left and hold the rod with your right). It is very solid, proven, and maintenance is easy as pie. There are other reels that offer a smoother experience but i love my 6501.
  19. I love the small jitterbug. If you're looking at surface baits be sure to consider the zara spook. You'll get fewer hits but often bigger fish. Not sure why, but it is genuinely a big fish bait. Also a lot of fun.
  20. Wow -- that's great, Salmo.
  21. Suicks are universally loved, but i personally hate them. If you live nearby i'll happily give you my basically-untouched one(s). My favourite jerk bait is the black and gold bobbie bait. Its not that popular (at least currently), but i love the action. Trolling baits -- i use 9 inch grandmas or jakes. There are LOTS of finishes...i like the silver and black/gold holofinish (basically gold/silver and black with shine baked in). Spinners --- big shiny (gold, silver, orange, black) colorado bladed inline spinner baits with marabou (feathers) or flashabou (rubber/silicon) tails (mepps musky marabou, buchertail spinnerbaits...there are lots of brands - just get big round blades, good weight in the lure to cast, and feather/silicon that moves a lot).. Don't get the standard hair bucktails -- they don't move in the water at all. You might try the double blades (lots of vibration), but be prepared to work your reels really hard. I use an abu garcia 6501 (i think?) and its a higher gear ratio baitcaster....not ideal for big-pull inline spinners. Classic double-blade type is the double cowgirl.....though there are lots of copy-cats. You might also tip your bucktails with twister tails. I don't but know lots that do and swear to it. Spinner baits.....i use 2 - a big white one and a black/gold one, both with a willow and a colorado blade -- flashabou rubber and a big twister tail. I tend to use these to burn through weeds and or slow-roll in the early and late seasons. More follows, fewer strikes than my inline spinnerbaits. Not sure why - likely just me. Rubbers -- i don'tn use them often but have been eyeing up the big superD's. They are like bulldawgs only with better colouring and eyes, internal structure (holds the rubber better), and cheaper.
  22. That's exactly what it is. (a hammock). Why would someone make/sell something like that?
  23. Was yours uncapped at both ends? I wonder why its un-capped.....?
  24. I was given a musky cradle as an xmas gift and am kind of confused by it. There is only one plane of mesh, if that makes sense. The mesh between the handle bars but no mesh at either end to cap it. Looks like a fish could swim out either end unless held tight in the cradle..... Anyone have a musky cradle? If so, is yours capped at either end? (if htat makes sense)
