  1. Nice fish. Fat! Looked like a nice morning.
  2. Cruising around on Georgian Bay with a good friend for 60 hrs sounds just about perfect. The fish is a bonus.
  3. Not a bad way to spend 60 hrs! Especially with the weather last week. Nice fish!
  4. Just keep doing what you're doing. Every baby is different, and before you know it this stage will be over. One idea though - you can pump breast milk and still use the bottle at night. At the very worst you end up sharing the duties and giving your wife a break. Plus you're likely to get "fuller" milk into his belly (vs the more watery stuff he's getting if just taking 1 min sips here and there). Plus, if it's more about soothing (which it sounds like it is), then a bottle is going to be less satisfying and he may grow out of caring about it as much.
  5. Salaries in general are going up, whether indexed to a specific inflation rate or not. Some industries (esp manufacturing) obviously aren't seeing that though.
  6. I don't know the specifics of the teacher deal, but that's somewhat common in public sector deals. Or at least used to be. Assuming it was used as a currency in negotiating past deals (that they accepted in lieu of something else), I wouldn't be quick to vilify them for wanting to keep what they have (or had). A friend and I were discussing this and he came up with this analogy.....imagine you were going to leave your company for another job because it was higher paying. Your boss comes to you and says "I can't afford to give you a raise, but what if we give you every other friday off instead". That might seem like a pretty good deal and a fair trade. So you take the deal at less $ but get fridays off, and but then years later everyone else at your company gets out the pitchforks and vilifies you for having a special deal with fridays off when everyone else has to work 5 days. I thought it was an interesting comparison.
  7. That's a nice looking boat, Wayne.
  8. Any fish?
  9. This is the best idea in this thread. If it's an essential service everything is settled by arbitration and there doesn't have to be months or years long death-by-paper-cut negotiations. The gov would likely never do it though.
  10. Awesome.
  11. That is a super pretty fish. Good for you, man. Still haven't tied into one of those. Hopefully one day.
  12. I can't think of a profession that has it's contract negotiations (mis)reported in the news as much as teachers. No one else is even close. I also find it funny when people consider 2% or whatever a "raise". As for the negotiation itself, i wish the teachers would just go on strike or Wynne would lock them out. Get it done with.
  13. It usually costs a lot more than that, so you still come out behind. If in Toronto and not able to find a good home based daycare, you're likely 18k+ per year per kid. It's pretty crazy, especially if you have 2+ kids.
  14. You can write off 8 or 9k in daycare (against the lower income) if you are both working.
  15. About time! Your stuff is awesome...I'm sure the magazine will do very, very well!
  16. too bad he retired.
  17. Exactly!
  18. And you may not have an extra 5k to contribute to TFSA, but now instead you're going to get an enhanced CPP that forces you to put aside _____ to invest in a gov managed retirement program. I'd rather manage my own $.
  19. What if I told you that income splitting went to 50% of families with 2 parents (and kids). Not 15%. And that > two thirds of that money went to houses making less than the average income for families with 2 parents......would that feel better? That whole 15% richest Canadians thing was a lie.
  20. I would have preferred someone else but give the guy a chance. He seems to have good intentions, and I'm not sure it's fair to judge him based on the Ontario Libs or the stuff that happened when his father was in the role. He's clearly a different guy from his father. I don't like the tax stuff, but will be nice to see the veterans stuff cleaned up. That was just evil. Native stuff as well.
  21. woodenboater....what did you have against income splitting or the TFSA?
  22. Are we blaming JT for the FLQ crisis now?
  23. Those guys were already going to vote for Harper, regardless. It was a terrible move. Anyone on the fence was likely driven away (and rightfully so).
  24. Could be. Thought he had longer versions. Maybe I'm mixing up the name. Or the size.
  25. Hose Baits Fatty is a giant version of the stalker. Really well made baits. Super nice guy too.
