That's a beauty! I think that fish could eat my PB brown!

But I wonder how you would feel if someone else on the forum gave away your hot spot? The real problem isn't helping this one particular fella it's others who sniff around just looking for free, easy tips like this. And then they show up and tell people and then garbage shows up and then problems follow. Rivers like this already receive enough pressure without posting on the internet exactly where to go. I can understand wanting to help people, but it's one thing to point a guy in the right direction and another to practically walk the guy there. Personally I find the legwork and finding my own spots to be part of the fun.

It's definitely been a while since my last brookie, but I couldn't get out for steelhead as much as I hoped, and since they're migrating back to the lakes, I may have to give them a go. Or maybe I'll stay more local and tie into a few browns... Or try to anyway. But my fishing will be cut short to watch the NFL draft in the afternoon. I also release all brookies I catch, and any river caught trout for that matter, and it's nice to hear others also take the conservation minded approach with these fish. Have a good weekend fellas

I've never owned a dodge but I wonder... Do you have to kiss it before you put the key in?

I know how frustrating you feel, and I probably know exactly where you were on the Grand as well. Good for you for saying something and reporting the guy.

Grand River Cats...Where's a good place to fish from shore?
timmeh replied to rbaquial's topic in General Discussion
I'd think you'll have a better time fishing cats, not much open this time of year near Cambridge. And your pike setup should work fine. -
You've got that right for sure! That damn in Caledonia might as well be designated a poachers sanctuary. See a lot of guys carp fishing with minnows and roe. If a CO were to drop by that place next Saturday he'd hand out enough in fines to pay his salary for a month or more.

Call the MNR ( 1-877 -847-7667) this number is toll free and open 24hrs a day. Let them know what's going on. It may take a few calls before they act but it's a start.

Large circle hooks are the best, they make for easy release. No need for a leader for invisibility but if you're fishing heavy braid you may want a mono leader in case you get snagged. Breaking off 20lb braid from a snag can be a pain in the

If the fish was as dead as you say then why waste it. I would have done the same, it's just unfortunate the laker didn't survive, but there's no point in releasing a dead fish. However if you started catching multiple lakers using this method then you should switch to a legal technique or different location. If you continued to catch lakers and continued fishing the same, then I think you're in the wrong big time. Sometimes you inadvertantly catch fish you don't try for and it sounds like that's what happened here.

well you can't fish up river past the highway 21 bridge so that will narrow your choices. I haven't been there in a while so I'm not sure how the fishing at the mouth has been.
-
I think it's fantastic that they take public opinion into account. Local guides and those who spend a lot of time fishing selected areas often have valuable knowledge about the state of those fisheries, and it's good for the MNR to tap into that knowledge.

I work them a bunch of different ways. I generally start by working them rather quickly with very few short pauses. If this fails to draw any action i'll progressively slow down and incorporate longer pauses. Nothing works all the time so vary the action until you find what works.

better check the regs before you do that

Dang I was fishing in that exact spot with the same set up and bait on friday and got skunked. No fish were caught between the 15 people there all day so I guess i picked the wrong day to try. Anyhow nice fish, that second one looks like a beast.

That article you're referring to was very interesting. I had no idea that species such as peacock bass have established sustaining populations in Florida. And those clown knifefish look like a wild battle.

Here is a link from a story i just read which makes this appear to be a CONSERVATIVE idea, or at least have strong support from the conservatives. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...6/BNStory/Front

I also agree that this is a bad idea. However according to the globe and mail there will be exemptions and some items will remain PST free. It hasn't been revealed exactly what those items are but i've read that some daily, common items will remain exempt (again not exactly sure what that will cover). Also apparently houses under 400,000 will remain PST free.

Until the last saturday in April you have limited options. Read the regs and find out which rivers have sections that are open year round and start there. Best of luck,

1. Taimen (siberian salmon) from mongolia - record is 230 lbs! mostly caught fly fishing, this would be awesome 2. arctic char from the tree river. 3. peacock bass from the amazon 4. tarpon

That BPS spring fishing sale is so over-rated - just like the store. The first time you're there is seems awesome just because of the selection, but i'd much rather spend my $$ at a local store. The prices are the same, but the service is usually way better than BPS. And while sometimes you'll find something good on sale, most of BPS sales are on stuff they just want to get rid off.

Bought the same rod last spring to fish bass and trout in the Grand and love it. Works well for small in-lines and unweighted plastics. Currently i have it paired up with a middle of the line abu garcia reel and that has worked well, but the reel has taken a pounding over the last couple years and i plan on upgrading that to a diawa exceler real for next season. I've heard nothing but good things about that reel.

Did they not produce the vehicles people wanted to buy 5 years ago like Hummers, and large SUV's and trucks? Their problem is consumers opinions about those vehicles have changed and they didn't predict it and didn't adapt to the changing conditions.

As far as providing anything for the fishery, i believe that area has been hit hard by VHS, and so the release of any healthy musky back into the spawning population is good to see. It's nice that a fish can be recognized as a trophy without having to be hung on the wall.... Had he chosen to keep the fish it would be understandable but I really respect this guy for releasing a potential record fish, likely knowing the criticism he may face by some, and not worrying what others would think. I think the best thing is that this may encourage future musky anglers to release large fish.

I know leafs fans are all excited about Burke, and I admit he's a huge step up over Fergison, but expecting the same success as he had in Anaheim may be a bit much. He did a good job there but i think some of it was very lucky: 1. The trade for Pronger was made because he demanded to leave Edmonton, Burke was smart to get him but if pronger doesn't demand to move he's obviously never traded. 2. the S. Niedemeyer signing was done because he wanted to play with his brother who was already a duck. A good move again but probably move lucky than anything. 2 key players that were mostly acquired by good fortune, can't expect that to happen again. I do believe he'll help the maple laughs but i also think they'll be a cellar dweller for a few years before big improvements are made. BTW: I do agree that Chicago may be quietly building something big!
