  1. Hi Peter, Thanks for a quick response. There is so little to paint that it would not be worth your while. Appreciate the feedback. Mark
  2. HI, Anyone here have much experience with exterior house paints? Long story short, have to repaint some wooden window frames. They have been scraped and cleaned and now comes the painting ... questions: 1) Do they need to be primed first. There are a few bare spots but paint is adhering to the wood in most spots. 2) Oil base vs water based? 3) Brand for durability. Any help would be appreicated. Thanks, Mark
  3. I have many reels up to 500 bucks -- I use the PT 99% of the time. Hope that helps.
  4. I don't know a lot about GPS technology, but is here any chance that they leave a signature that can be traced?
  5. Sounds like a lot of guys on this site watch Red Green :}
  6. MIke, I have several reels all the way up to 500.00. The one I reach for the most is the Cabo that Wayne suggested. Built like a rock and casts like a dream. Stay away for the C4 -- junk as far as I am concerned. Just can't handle the stress of musky fishing. Good luck.
  7. Congrats to you and Adam -- been a while coming, but I am sure it will be a great move for both of you. Are you still at the Civic Center? Mark
  8. HI, Not to belabour the point, but I found this site that looks at the famous commercial: E-Tec Vs Yammy Vs Merc ... http://www.oceanskiffjournal.com/Subscribe...ral/ETEC2.aspx# Thought some of you might be interested. Mark
  9. That was a beaut -- thanks, Lew. Mark
  10. Brian, The newness of the technology does, to some degree, concern me. For that reason, I might wait a year or two before I do anything. The other side of the coin -- 2-strokes do have two main advantages over 4-stroke engines: weight, fewer moving parts. In some ways that makes them less prone to mechanical failuer. The E-tec seems to rely a lot on computer technology and that, in my mind, might be where the real weakness lies. If that fails, how much $$ are you out? Anyway -- all comments are welcome and thaks for yours. Mark
  11. Again - thanks to all for the feedback. Great points made by all and that is what I was looking for. Whenever I make the decision and she sitting on the water, pretty, I'll post a pic or two. Take care, Mark
  12. Irishfield, Interesting comment re "not quiet". A guy that I know quite well has one and I have been right beside it many times while it has been running and I've barely been able to hear it. Now his is only a 50 HP -- maybe that's the reason. I doubt I'll go much higher than 90HP. Thanks for the feedback. Mark
  13. Hi, Thanks for allof our thoughts -- please keep them coming. Mark
  14. Hi, I am considering retiring in the next 18-24 months and I am starting to look for my boat and motor combo that I will take musky fishing into my twilight years. I generally fish on the Trent-Severn System and will rarely move from there -- most of the fishing will be in the canal areas and main water courses - not much in lake sections. Anyway, I have been doing some research into motors and I have always been impressed with the Evinrude E-Tecs, but very few people seem to own them. I am not sure if it is because they are 2-strokes, or because Merc/Yammy/Honda have more market penetration or ???. Every person I have talked to who owns one, without exception, has been very happy. They do seem to live up to all of the hype -- they are quiet, emissions are lower than most (maybe all) 4 stokes, they are light, they get great gas mileage and they seem to be reliable. The only negative I see is the need to add the oil -- but I think overall, with the less weight and better power ban, that is almost a trade-off with the 4s in terms of actual $ costs to run. So -- I am looking for opinions/thoughts and experiences for those who have done comparable research or happen to own one. Thanks, Mark
  15. Download Avast - it is free and an excellent A/V software. Go to: http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/ I gave up on Norton and I am so glad I did - complete waste of $. Never had a problem with Avast. Mark
  16. Garry, Great retrospective. Glad that you are feeling better. Interesting book that I just read that I would highly recommend -- "Heart Fraud" by Dr. Charles McGee. I think you would find it a VERY interesting read.
  17. Nice post Lew, on this cold December day!
  18. If she was in good shape, back in the drink -- if not, I'd take it.
  19. Lew, Good luck -- hope you enjoy your new-found employment. Mark
  20. CPH, My wife and I have gone with this group 4 times: http://www.brierislandwhalewatch.com/ July is a good time to see all the species that roam that area. Quite a thrill when you see a biggie near the boat. Bring warm clothes on board with you -- can be very cool even in July. Meant to add, on the off chance you see nothing, this company gave you a rain check that can be used at a later date to go back out again for free -- check to see if they still do. Good luck
  21. Thanks, Guys. Mark
  22. HI, I don't have a lot of time to post these days, but I hope those that know me are all doing well. In any event, I have a question. I have gone through 2 Minn Kota foot control pedals that loose their capacity to steer. Seems to be the pedal itself is at fault. I was talking to Adam this summer (Reef Hawg) and he suggested that it might be the solonoid switch. I have not tried that yet, but was wondering if there are others who are having issues with these things. I'd bet I have no more than 30 hours on them before they poop out. Anyone have any other thoughts and has anyone tried to replace these switches on their own. I understand that Aikmens might carry them and they are not that expensive. Comments?
  23. Hi Gerritt, I recall vividly -- seems like yesterday. I hope that things are a little easier -- never will be easy ... but maybe a little easier. - Mark
  24. I've musky fished for 35+ years and have yet to lose a fish ... lucky -- maybe... but I have to beleive that some of that has to do with knowing how to handle them. Do you have the right release tools and a proper net? Sorry the fish was lost ... hope she was tasty ... better luck next time.
  25. Lew, What a wonderful keepsake to have. Like you, my bros is my long-time fishing partner and I can not begin to imagine not having him in the boat each year. Pam -- great painting ... love your style. - Mark
