What a pig!!! Probably been said a million times in this thread, but good on the angler for letting that giant swim. Very selfless act, and he should be applauded for it.

Hi Folks, Anyone out there from the Callander area of Lake Nipissing? Just sitting here thinking about my Jan 1-4 trip and wondering if any ice has been made yet? Thanks for the replies, Darcy
-
I never use a snap or a snapswivel while icefishing or otherwise(next to pike/musky fishing with a leader). I think that in clear water especially, the snap/snapswivel discourages bites. If line twist is an issue, I'll throw a micro swivel 12 to 18" up the line. I have had more than one occasion when I am killing without a snapswivel and my buddy isn't getting any action with one. Trust me, it's worth the cold hands while tying a knot.

Hey folks, Anyone know the results for the Simcoe Open today? If not, anyone know where I can find them online. Thanks, Darcy

Try the hike down to the whirlpool down in The Falls. I'ts beautiful down there this time of year, and quite an invigorating hike! Darcy

Although I live a short drive from Simcoe, and fish it an awful lot in the winter, I find myself looking forward to the annual trips to Nipissing throughout the spring, through he summer and into the fall. You really can't beat a weekend out on the ice in a bungalow. Checkout www.robhyattoutdoors.com - we have gone there 1 or 2 times per winter for the last 4 or 5 years, and have never been disappointed with the service or the fishing. Darcy

I think that they're actually concrete vaults that you put in the ground (lid off)before the casket. The casket is then placed inside, the lid of the vault is put back on, and the whole works is covered with earth.

Which river should I go steelfishing this weekend? (stupid question)

maybe the niagara??? -
i believe that flourocarbon offers such an advantage because it has the almost the same refractive index as water: that is, it refracts light almost the same way. this can be crucial in smaller streams and creeks, and even in big water like the niagara river when it runs gin clear in the winter time. tight lines, darcy

hey all, i have a couple of centerpin-newbie questions: can anyone please tell me how to remove the bearings from my islander? i wanted to get the grease off of them and hit them with some sewing machine oil. also, i've heard that some guys run their reels dry. what's the deal with that? thanks alot, darcy

i have heard from someone "in the know" that Cronzy's is the best stuff ever. not a huge fan of him personally, but on this persons reccomendation, i'll try his mix.

great report CC, glad to see you've been out again over the last few weeks. tight lines darcy

i would try H2-Optix - around 40 buck will get you a great pair of glasses. the rapalas were okay but really hurt my head by the end of a day on the water. darc

Hey all, just returned from closing the walleye season with Rob Hyatt. Despite semi-tough conditions and a light bite, it was once again a great outing: 15-20 walleye both in and out of the slot, bunch of perch (with a few real hogs), lots of herring and a bonus 28'' pike. Lost a big pike on one of the tipups and missed quite a few bites. Hot lure of the weekend was a tiny gold Williams with a minnow head, the Buckshot Spoon took a few as well as live minnows. Although not as hot as the action at the beginning of the season, it was still steady, and we had a few great laughs with Rob. We'll definitely be heading back for the opener next year. Tight lines and have a great softwater season, Darcy

IMHO, Extreme Angler is the best show on WFN, hands down; especially if you are a Southern Ontario fisherman. They have strong segments, pertinent information and useful tips, not to mention the Extreme Fishing Annual, which is a killer magazine. Don't badmouth those guys, they are doing great things. Darcy

i had a trip booked with caesars and ended up canceling it and going with air cochrane, after i found out that there are a ton of outfitters on Gouin Reservoir: Houseboat rentals and the whole 9 yards. The folks from Caesars never told me this, and I was looking for a remote destination. Just a heads up, depending what you want out of your trip. Good Luck, Darcy

You have a pm

definitely p/u some buckshot spoons or other rattling baits. nips water is pretty dirty, and sometimes the rattles really call them in. tip with a minnow head, or even better, take of the treble and tie a 2'' dropper to the treble and tip with a whole minnow. that rig has been deadly for me on nipissing. use heavy line for the dropper (i use 25lb flouro), the stiffness keeps it from tangling. jigs with minnows, hook/splitshot with minnows and pimples are good, and this year at rob hyatts, i got a 6lbr on a 1'' long gold williams spoon. good luck, darcy

echoing troutguy, lots of ice in that area(8-10"); it's the slush that makes it tough. few huts out, lots of sleds and quads. caught tons of lakers and a few whities this year. people are catching herring but they are waayyy up in the water column between 10' & 30'. all of my fish have came within 15' of bottom so far.

Looking for Ice Bunalow rental for two people
dheitzner replied to wmshaw's topic in General Discussion
wmshaw, try rob hyatt, www.robhyattoutdoors.com we go up every year and rob always takes good care of us: good clean bungalows, great service and best of all, good fishing!!! we've already been up once in /08 and we're heading up a second time at the end of the season. he may or may not have 2 person bungalows, but if he's not fully booked maybe he'll hook you up. if you end up going with him, i'm sure that you won't be disappointed. good luck, darcy -
ialso have a 30"med st.croix that i use for 'eyes. when using finesse tactics or during a light bite, i use a st. croix 28"ml. they are both pretty good all around rods JMO darcy
