Hello all, been a while since i last posted a question here, but I saw another thread on Air Cochrane, so here goes: I'm heading to Magiskan Lake with Air Cochrane June 9, for a weeks fishing. I haven't been on a fly-in before, so i'm totally green going in. My questions are: 1 - general fly-in info, such as things to bring that you didn't on your first fly-in, lures, # of rods(4 too many?) etc. i realize that at some point i'm likely to go "darn!!! i should have brought_________", but i'd like to keep those experiences to a minimum, while keeping my luggage to 80lbs. 2 - info specific to magiskan lake. depth, type of structure, lures, colours, water colour, etc. we're going to be getting a package from Mark with a bunch of info, but i figured i'd ask around here while i'm waiting for it also, what about purifying water? drops? filter? tablets? boiling? combination of all??? i can't wait for this trip, but it's coming up fast and i want to be ready to go!!! thanks in advance for the info, darcy

What kind of Fluorocarbon Line do you use?
dheitzner replied to 98Fahrenheit's topic in General Discussion
i use seagar or raven on the tribs, approx.3-5lb, seagar 8lb as a leader for eyes and smallies in the summer, and 65lbseagar as material for pike/muskie leaders. -
reel nice fish bly, the trib game is really one of confidence (as i've learned the last couple of years) so that fish should be special to you. now that you know you can land one by yourself, lookout!

i'm surprised that more folks aren't going with the stren superbraid. IMO it's the supplest, easiest to handle, great knot strength.

hey jnic, thanks a million for the info, it's greatly appreciated darcy

so i've done all of this research on fishing lodges and outpost camps and narrowed it down to Caesars Lodge in Northeren Quebec (near St. Veronique I think). The last step before we book and send our deposit is to see if any there OFNCers have been there and whatb their experiences were like. We don't want to spend all of this $$$ without knowing that they run a solid operation... thanks for the help ladies & gents, it's truly appreciated darcy

hey sweet report man and awesome pike. i'm heading up to robs next weekend, mind if i ask where you picked up your bait/price? what'd you get the gator on???

for our annual trip to hyatts, i usually make a big pot of chili ahead of time and heat it up in the hut. it can be frozen and is easy to reheat when supper rolls around. spaghetti & sauce is another good bet if you have the facilities.

can't wait to see them!

i bought a mustang atlantic class last year and love it way too much. it is a high quality suit, although a bit more expensive than other brands IMO it's well worth it. your best bet on price is a lebarons no tax sale - probably one on the same weekend as the sportsmen show.

didn't lose anything but they didn't get in. all that we keep in there is a propane tank, bit of food and cheap propane stove. anything that i leave in there i am prepared to lose, as i had the same thing happen to me & my dad off of line 6, 15 years ago. just sucks that people will do that sort of thing

good luck scott, rather be shivering by the river then shivering @ work!!! if i see you @ tightlines this weekend i'll say hello, looking forward to seeing some pics...

just a word of warning to all of those with ice huts out on lake simcoe - specifically near lefroy. someone or ones, tried to break in to our hut off of killarny beach road. we were out there on sat and discovered the attempt on sun so it happened on saturday night. we believe that it was someone in a carr or truck, not on an atv or sled. darcy

wtg BC - bet you don't get many of those on Sturgeon! lol

great report as usual CC, i'm heading up to callandar bay on the 1st of march(reschedule from jan 4) so i'm pretty excited. could that the "whitie" that you caught actually be a lake herring? i think that whitefish have a more pronounced overhung upper lip and usually kind of a hump on their back. just asking because on the bay last year (and on simcoe too actually) we got into a whack of herring. can't wait untill your next chrome report. darcy
