  2. its not a boat ( but it does leak ) but we leave our hunt camp unlocked .the worst to happen has been they used the dry firewood by the cookstove and didn't replenish it and a bag of garbage left in the outhouse. not bad for over 80 years TB
  3. there is a decent launch ( don't use the concrete but the gravel beach next to it) in orillia across from Tudhope park. watch for sign on hwy 12 not far past Trombley tackle shop , can't recal the street name. If you are looking for lakers and whitefish I can't help you there . 20 k will produce some good sized waves on simcoe , take care TB
  4. seen the same thing , but never thought of using them for the same reason .I know I wouuld be a bit po'd if I came back and my boat was ' gone fishin' without me LOL. tb
  5. Welcome I only fish Hamilton for the scenery TB
  6. 5 valleys and 12 different roof areas made for some slow progress . the architectural shingles are much easier and forgiving to install than the 3 tab type . TB
  7. yeah kinda of a stupid request on my part. still sorry to hear he closing up . TB
  8. Always interesting to see OFNRs projects so I thought I would share mine. We bought our current house almost 2 years ago and knew it was in desperate need of a new roof . we survived last winter although you will notice an area on the front were the december winds removed about 3 sq ft of shingles that I had to patch. Old roof ,lots of missing shingles ! Luckily Simcoe Building centre will delivered the shingles to the roof for $1 a bundle ..at 92 lbs a bundle the best $76 dollars I ever spent used about one and one half sheets of 4x8 ply to repair rot , mainly around edges but a couple large ones were discovered mid deck! Original roof had no ice and water and very little protection in the eves .We placed ice and water around the perimter , ridges and hips as well as double wide in the valley .Synthetic underlay everywhere else .Metal valleys , new flashing as well . 30 year shingles. Bit of an over kill maybe but for the few extra dollars I fiqure its worth it . lots of supervision LOL Finished product Cost slightly over $4000 all in , we had estimates ranging from 3,800 to almost $6000 .Considering the extra underlay , 2 fall arrests I think we saved about $1,500 to $2,000. Took 5 days mostly on my own , or with my youngest. Luckily the weather was perfect , not too warm and only threatned rain one day . Would I do it again ... not likely TB
  9. actually hadn't heard about it till Matt called last night. Whew TB
  10. he is in good hands , will be thinking of him and the family dave
  11. Sorry to hear Sam is closing up . great source of info and gear for that area . Good guides too What are the 'Bigger and better ' things you mention ? TB
  12. thanks Bigugli I may give it a go . I have a very basic map of the lake and will plan to boat 15-30 minutes before we start picking good looking spots . Back up plan will be Lady Simcoe TB
  13. Matt called a few minutes ago and let us know us know an employee at the main lodge drowned a few days ago.He didn't really know the guy but had seen him around ( Matt works at an outpost lodge) Not much info other than he had dissapeared the end of last month , OPP ERT found his body along the shoreline. Glad I heard it from him and not on the news! TB
  14. Looking for a change of scenery and was wondering if it was worth the drive ( 45 min from barrie?) Planning amid week trip to avoid the weekend rush Feel free to PM TB
  15. youngest son and I went out sunday morning on Simcoe and it was surprisingly quiet . I think wind and cool temps kept most away. we fished big bay to cooks bay with a few average bass and perch to show for it. Mike did have a decent pike on for about 2 seconds LOL hit his shad coloured crank bait boatside .Only a couple of teeth marks to show for it . No pics as I thought I had left my camera and cell behind . going out again Wednesday morning TB
  16. Sorry to hear that Wayne . Cheryl and I send our condolences. dave
  17. we will keep an eye out for you ! Congrats on the ship ! TB
  18. most guys refer to any plastic worm as a Senko (like Kleenex ,Skidoo etc.) Bass pro makes a decent worm I prefer the StrikeKings . depending on type of fishing Texas rigged or wacky ( hook thru centre of worm , ends dangling) are my two typical set ups. Texas rigged can be weightless or on a belly weighted hook. tb
  19. well dates are set , talked to Matt tonight . we leave Barrie on August 22 nd ( maybe the 21st) and should be in Dryden to see my sis and family on the 23 rd Lake of the woods on the 24 for a few days of Muskie and walleye. Matts last day will be around the 23 plan on hitting Dryden for a few more days of walleye then Nipegon for two days with my nephew and wife . back in Barrie around sept 1 . getting excited already! Is it too early to pack? Matt also wore out his muskie reel , just in time for his birthday TB
  20. I think Pikeie has a storey that may be similar . An Allsion bass boat on LOW when the driver/pilot torpedoed a big wave .. 5 hours of bailing later ....LOL Speed kills or at least scares the crap out of you! TB
  21. Good reminder about the livewells , Like Terry most of my multi lake fishing is via connected lakes. But I am planning a northern trip that will mean different lakes a day apart.TB
  22. All fish to date have been in 1- 8 feet of water with most in the 4' range. best early season I can remember for me. mid lake humps have been excellent , deeper weedlines not. edges of reeds have also produced senkos, perch coloured cranks and smoke tubes have ruled .nothing on top water, or spinner baits . TB
