  1. Yeah B, on the website (today) they have the R-type combo's for $59.99
  2. I know a guy who did it and used cork from wine bottles for the grip and it worked well for him. No harm considering it's only your time to make. It if the tip is soft and fast I sure would try it.
  3. Merry Christmas to you to B and everyone else too!
  4. CTC IS a great company and things like that go way more than a 'mile'. News does travel fast, good news not as fast as bad news BUT it still goes around for others to hear about it. The MGR (Brian Rattray) who decided to do this is one VERY thoughtful person to put the rest of his day/night (personal free time) aside and help others when he didn't have to. After all, the people already paid for the product so he could have said something like come back tomorrow but he didn't. Stellar move! I hope he get's what he wants for Christmas!!
  5. That's the problem with the Abu combo's that are out there right now (for me!). The rod is close to or worth the 'sale' price but the reel that they pair with it is rated for the rod BUT the quality is Substandard at that price point. I would rather ANY old Mitchell on a $20 rod that does what it says it's going to do and feels right doing it. IE not a brick holding it and can fight a 3LB walleye...
  6. Best ice rod I have ever seen for Hi-Vis use was a neon green one, and the rod was very good too! Too bad I forget what the name was. I think it was a Smitty's or some other not so common name staring with an S that Cable's and a FEW other places sold.
  7. Ok, I just looked for reviews and didn't find any so it must have been "my sports gut" telling me no. Looks sharp but...
  8. PS, I would much rather the Frabill beside it for $4 less...
  9. Nick, I have yet to use it but when I toyed with it at the store and read some online reviews (after I held it) I decided not to get it for some reason. It would have been free for me due to gift cards but there was something about it in my hands and at that price point that made my gut tell me no. It was basically a free combo for me yet I still put it back... Maybe it was the reel, I forget now but if I do pick another up I will take note as to why I didn't like it. It was just a GUT feeling is all I can say right now.
  10. Interesting topic for me now that I just got a 2007 Ram 1500 with 20" wheels; I'm keenly watching this thread. The truck has 275/60R20's right now that could use some more winter traction as well as towing use. Sorry to possibly hijack the thread for me too.
  11. listening to the game only and hearing all those "ping's" and not hearing about it going in sure isn't fun...
  12. So tomorrow is Christmas Eve and I've got 'nada' to do as my kids are going to be with their mom. Anyone else in 'the same boat' and want to go ice fishing? If not on the 25th; how's about the 26th?

  13. You should pay taxes on your "purchase price" but if the price is too low for the Govt then they audit it and make you pay a min. tax. So if you buy a quad for $3500 and they seller says "$100" then when you go to Svc ON they ding you on what is Fare Market Value according to them. That's how they taxed me on my tinny when I bought it off a friend of the family. Considering my purchase price was much lower than FMV according to them.
  14. CTC = Canadian Tire Corp. HT is another brand. www.icefish.com
  15. I haven't in decades BUT this time next year, maybe... Because my kids are with my Ex I could work but I changing jobs recently and I'm not 100% up on the systems to offer to fill in for someone else to have the day(s) off. I bet I get stuck with working it next year when it's my year to have the kids for Christmas...
  16. CTC tends to put the Berkley Lighting rods on sale from time to time (2 full combo's in the pack) and they have been decent for me for walleye, perch and crappie. One's a UL and the other is a light. The reels are NOT that great but 2 rod's for $39.99 (reg. price and they tend to go to $29.99 or less)
  17. Christmas Vac. for sure!
  18. Haliburton has a few places too I would look into.
  19. You know you can get a Navoinics app? I have it on my Note3 and plan to use it every time I hit the ice and water.
  20. I would get two more with different actions. I like 7' rod's cause with a decent reel and good line I can cast a mile. Also Shimano has the Sellus line of rods now that don't cost too much. I got my Ex one and it's a decent combo. They also make a rod to go against the Ugly Stick, the Voltius (SP?) line and I really like it for using a senko type of bait. And seeing you are in the Whitby area Shimano's depot isn't to far from you.
  21. You CAN spend lots or not spend lots and still have a good combo. Do you just have the one combo and tie on different lures all the time? I would use what you have and get 1 or 2 more price saving combo's. This way you have a worm harness rod ready to go, a jig combo ready and a crank bait rod all ready at the same time.
  22. uh oh, power's flickering here in Lindsay now...

  23. Welcome to the site. I have no KW info to offer, sorry.
  24. I just noticed this came out yesterday, so for those looking, here you go. http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/business/LetsFish/Publication/STEL02_163615.html
