Also a big thanks from me to the mods who keep the train a rollin'. We're on our way out for the evening, being picked up and cabbing it home! Everyone have a safe night, be sensible (ya ya ... ill try to take my own advice...) and most of all be safe. See you all in 2010!!!

  5. Dear Lake Simcoe Stakeholder, This e-mail is following up on our series of Lake Simcoe fisheries management public meetings held around the watershed this past fall. Natural reproduction of lake trout in Lake Simcoe has been virtually absent for over 20 years due to excess phosphorus loading to the lake and low dissolved oxygen levels in the deep coldwater habitats required by lake trout. However, the presence of naturally reproduced or wild lake trout has now been documented annually since 2001 in the Ministry of Natural Resources' assessment programs which coincides with recent improvements in water quality and habitat conditions. More recently, natural lake trout have also been a regular occurrence in anglers’ catches. In order to further increase the level of natural reproduction of lake trout in Lake Simcoe, the MNR proposed a reduction in its lake trout stocking program. Considerable public consultation occurred throughout the development of this stocking review. Both the Lake Simcoe Fisheries Stakeholder and Management Committees were actively involved in a complex process to review the lake trout stocking program and recommend an appropriate adaptive management approach. In addition, given that all of the feedback received by the Ministry from stakeholders and the public at or following the public meetings was positive concerning the proposed reduction, the MNR is implementing a new stocking target of 50,000 yearling lake trout starting in the spring of 2010 for a period of 5 years. The goal of this stocking program, and the reduction, is to restore a self-sustaining coldwater fish community and maintain the recreational fishery and its associated socio-economic benefits. The background information, options considered, consultation process and rationale for this decision is detailed in an EBR Information Notice. Please feel free to pass this e-mail on to those who may have an interest. Thank you for your continued interest in the fisheries resources of Lake Simcoe. Jason Borwick, M.Sc. 6. Dear Lake Simcoe Stakeholder, The Lake Simcoe Fisheries Stakeholder Committee in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources would like to encourage more anglers to participate in the Lake Simcoe Angler Diary program. The objectives of the diary program are to engage anglers, obtain advanced information and alert us to changes in angler success and other fish community patterns. This important information will augment the many other monitoring tools we use to help improve and evaluate fisheries management on Lake Simcoe. We encourage you to forward this email to any anglers who you think may be interested in participating in this program. If you would like to participate in the angler diary program for the 2010 fishing season please let us know so that we can mail you a dairy. Please respond to this email with your contact information including name, mailing address and phone number. We will send you a diary as soon as possible. Once you receive it, please put your name and phone number at the top of the first page. The diary is printed on waterproof paper so that you can fill out the information while out on the lake, regardless of weather conditions. Once again, thank you very much for your support of this program and for your continued efforts to help us manage the Lake Simcoe fishery. If you have any questions, please contact Jason by phone or e-mail. Thank you for your participation. Jason Borwick, M.Sc. RESP

Just a note, the final tally for the RESP's was $3,248.00 This will grow by 5-7% per year till they go to school. The Government matches up to 20% of this, and the kids also get bonus payments from the pool of interest that doesn't get used by other kids. It will be substantial in 12 years or so when they need it! The paperwork has been submitted and will be processed in the new year. Thanks to all who helped me out with this. OFC RULES!!!! I cant get the FONT any Bigger!!!

  23. Its a pretty sad thing... both young and local. The young man was not a bad kid by all accounts, but made a very bad decision. dunno what he was thinking. It's pretty shocking for our small community, I'm sure the officers that were involved are not feeling very good about the whole affair either. No one came out ahead here. Hers a bit more info in the Globe: A spike belt laid on a rural Ontario highway by police to stop someone fleeing a RIDE check was hit by the suspect's car, which then veered into oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle, killing both drivers. The accident happened on Sunday night on Highway 17 near Sturgeon Falls. Angele Penasse, of Sturgeon Falls, Ont. and Ghislain Gareau, of Verner, Ont., both in their early 20s, are dead, according to family members. OPP and the Special Investigations Unit have yet to confirm their names or release any further information. The SIU has been called in to investigate the accident. According to North Bay OPP, officers were conducting RIDE checks along Highway 17 just east of North Bay, when they stopped a vehicle carrying two men. When they attempted to make an arrest, one of the men took the car and fled the scene, driving west along Highway 17. To try to stop the car, West Nipissing Police Service deployed a spike belt on the highway just outside Sturgeon Falls, which is about 40 kilometres from North Bay. The car failed to stop and hit the eastbound vehicle. The OPP alerted the SIU just after 9 p.m. on Sunday. The mandate of the unit is to conduct independent investigations into civilian deaths resulting from police actions. According to a friend, Ms. Penasse had recently finished her college studies to become a personal support worker. A memorial page was dedicated to Mr. Gareau on Facebook yesterday. One message reads, "He was such a special person that every one loved. We will miss you."
  24. Lotsa wolves everywhere this year.
