  6. So the girls watched some movies last night, and we slept in this morning. Mckenzie hadn't caught a fish yet so I promised her we would go out till we caught her one. The fishing in the rivers been pretty slow, but after a couple of passes, we caught one decent enough to have a snack on. she was pretty excited!! So back to camp for some popcorn pkike!! McKenzie.. the batter queen What a great snack!! so afterwards, we all go back out to get some more... the fishing been slow so i didnt think we would have much luck.. then BANG!! Summer gets a fish on... at first i thought she had a snag... then i thought she had weeds... the drag was peeling.. so i stop the boat... we were trolling with three rods and two of the lines were tangled including the one with the snag/log/fish/weeds on it. The line goes slack and she thinks shes lost it.... I said.. I dunno.... the lines now under the boat... could still be there.... Monique is frantically trying to untangle the lines and im holding the one, in case there a fish there, in case it decides to take off. Still not sure if its off or not. So we get the line untangled and yup... sure enough theres a fish on the line and as soon as Summer takes up the slack.. OFF it goes peeling line like crazy!! She can reel it the drag, which i set fairly loose for the small pike, just wont wind up. Monique reaches over and tightens the drag a bit , under the boat it goes.. no way is it coming up.... finally I see it!! OMG... LOL in the boat it comes... One happy girl!! One happy guide too!! A couple of pictures and back in the water the big girl goes. good lesson for the kids. Im pretty pleased... now its off to make enough hot water for 5 baths, then a movie on the big screen, "I know what you did last summer" LOL.. That will keep them up tonight... then fireworks. That will be it it for the weekend.. Heading home tomorrow.

  13. Ontario Fishing Network E-Magazine www.ontariofishing.net Volume 9, Issue 6 - June 2009 #102 Essential Boating Tools By Tim Allard Boating demands a certain amount of gear for both safety reasons, but also to be ready for emergency repairs. To ensure you're well prepared for the season, here are some essential boating tools and gear you should own. The Ten Commandments of Topwater Bassin By Justin Hoffman Bass fishing is like a religion. To the ardent angler, it is a passion fueled by an insatiable appetite for all things Micropterus. Biblical? Not really, although, if truth be known, we are all guilty of praying to the fishing Gods from time to time. Summertime Eyes by Tyler Dunn If Ontario is best known for one fish it is without a doubt the delicious walleye. Trophy walleye fishing can be had at both ends of the province. In Southern Ontario, The Bay of Quinte is a world class trophy walleye producer that rivals any other trophy walleye waters North America has to offer. Polarized Glasses By Pete Maina Talk about a no - no; it’s like going muskie fishing without long-nose pliers and quality hook cutters—if you don’t have ‘em—don’t go! Quality polarized glasses are an absolute must for any good muskie or pike fisher. Spring Smallmouth in New York on Lake Erie By JP DeRose When and where: Lake Erie on the US side is open all year for bass fishing but by the first Saturday in May the fish and the lake will be ready for action. There are 3 main places to launch that will get you within 5-15 miles of the best fishing grounds as well. High Skies, Shallow Bass By Steve Rowbotham One of the biggest misconceptions in angling is that those bright sunny days will either drive fish deep, or into cover. While often true, rules don’t apply to all fish, as a matter of fact, probably not even half. When you think you have things figured out, they will always throw a curveball. Belly Boating: Eco-friendly Fishing by Rob Romberg Fishing from a belly boat or float tube is nothing new. Anglers have been enjoying this peaceful, intimate style of fishing for decades. I was however somewhat surprised when I recently moved back to Ontario from B.C and noticed the lack of these manually propelled fishing vessels on the water. 20. GREAT news for our good friend of the board!! ----------------------------------------------------- Major League Fishing? Professional Angler Dave Mercer to Throw First Cast June 3rd, 2009 Port Perry, ON Dave Mercer Outdoors Inc. is proud to announce that history will be made on September 21st, 2009. For the first time ever in major league baseball, the opening pitch will actually be the opening cast, cast by professional angler and host of television’s Facts of Fishing®, Dave Mercer. This historic cast will take place right before the Toronto Blue Jays take on the Baltimore Orioles at home in the Rogers Center, downtown Toronto. Obviously, this is not the first spot one would think of when planning a cast, but this will come as no surprise to Dave Mercer fans as the fishing funnyman has made a habit of bringing his beloved sport to mainstream audiences. Dave Mercer stated, “Not only is this a dream come true because I’m a huge baseball and Toronto Blue Jays fan, but I feel it’s a great opportunity to put the sport of fishing in front of a lot of people that may have never fished. I am also elated by the support I have received from the Blue Jays, turning this historic event into a fundraiser for Casting for a Cure.” Fishing and baseball fans alike will have the opportunity to take this historic event in from the Facts of Fishing® section at the Rogers Center, where, after the cast, Dave himself will be taking in the rest of the game with family, friends and fans. Thanks to the Toronto Blue Jays, a portion of the proceeds from this section’s ticket sales will be going to Dave Mercer’s Casting for a Cure benefiting the Canadian Cancer Society. Blue Jays Quote: Jason Diplock from the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club states, “The Toronto Blue Jays are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Dave and his team at Dave Mercer Outdoors Inc. This promotion allows us to showcase two great summer activities while raising funds for a terrific cause.” Tickets are $20.00 and may be obtained at www.bluejays.com/specialevents or by calling 1-416-341- 1234. When ordering, be sure to quote promo code GP-CAST09. About Dave Mercer Outdoors Inc. 21. Welcome!
  22. That is correct!
  23. ATTA BOY!
  24. Yup... pike are great eating if cleaned right and bass.. well I love them before they get wormy.. ate one a couple of weeks ago. I've also said this before, that there is a bit of a difference in the way northerners and southerners treat fishing, not that there's anything wrong with that. AND this is a GENERALIZATION, but northerners tend to fish for fish, while alot of southerners fish for sport. Once again thats a generalization. Now since this boards inception Ive learned more about catch and release than I ever would have thought. I used to be a catch and keep all angler, and over the years Ive graduated to a catch and keep what I am going to immediately consume. I've gone from poo pooing bass and pike, to eating them more than pickerel (mainly cause I'm a lousy pickerel fisherman.. lol) I routinely go out and fish without the intention of keeping any. BUT everyone fishes for a different reason. My dads 75 and it drives him nuts when I tell him I caught fish and didn't bring any home.. he cant understand the justification for all the trouble if you not gonna bring any home.. hes from the north, from another generation. I eat lots of pike and bass.. cause they are good to eat, pike is EASY to clean and, they are much more plentiful than pickerel. Vist me at lakir.. and Ill feed you some pike thats better than most peoples pickerel!!
  25. That is one big fish... wow. Is a trout that size past its reproducing age??
