"Be aware of wonder." --Robert Fulghum I can't reprint them here, but George Carlin's "7 Words You Can't Say On Television." RIP, George.

Great report. Love the pic of the little dog curled up in your buddy's lap - if that's not a relaxing time on the water, I dunno what is. That little JVC speaker of yours is a nifty idea. I like how you can throw the mp3 player and spare batteries in there, and everything's in one place. Think I paid $20 for our Logitech clamshell gizmo.

I've seen it at the Sobeys, Loblaws, and A&P in Peterborough. Club House's product locator form can tell you other locations in Ontario/Eastern and Quebec/Maritimes.

Nice fish! Glad to see the 'missing' pic alive and well. Thanks for posting it! -
Congrats on getting the pic back!! Thanks for letting us know - I was wondering how you'd made out. CCMT's guide to posting pics should get you set up in no time.

Never seen the beer in person, but it's been linked off Rapala's site for some time. I'm more excited about the new Rapala Choir. Bet they could make a 6" perch feel like a new PB!

Or is everyone glued to the tube for "America's Got Freaks Talent"

Peterborough's city transit site Yellowpages.ca listings for taxi serving Peterborough Far as I know, the closest VIA Rail gets to Ptbo is Cobourg - 50km away. If there's bus service from there to here, I don't know about it. I've seen cabs from down there up here, but no clue what that'd cost.

If you know that this camera usually saves photos to the card, I wouldn't think it'd be on the internal memory (if there is any). It'd stand to reason that specifying a different save location would require an awful lot of button presses, and I assume you'd have noticed all that going on. I wouldn't expect a photo place to have data recovery software. Any pc repair shop should, though. Recovering data from a flash card is a really minor task. If you're net savvy, and want to try it yourself, find a copy of EasyRecovery Pro version 6 or above. Plug the card into your computer using a flash card reader (not the camera itself), tell EasyRecovery where to recover from, and give it an empty directory on your hard drive to dump files to. That's all there is to it. Either way, it's important that you get that card out of the camera now, and don't use it again until you're sure you've exhausted all the recovery options you're going to attempt. Just hitting "delete" doesn't get rid of the data, just removes it from normal view. However, if you reuse the space with a pic of your dog, the muskie really will be gone. Good luck!

Well, I did try. One reply, and it dropped off the front page.

It's toast. I don't understand how changing a jingle is a life-altering crisis, but nobody seems to give a darn about the guy destroying a huge chunk of BOQ shoreline and dumping PCBs on the walleye.

http://www.intelligencer.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=1061333 I've been watching this story play out since early last year. Sinclair's a loon. Thinks men in white vans are out to get him, chicken manure makes PCBs disappear, flying fish are everywhere, and that proper court attire does not involve socks. It's been a real soap opera so far. They even had a high speed chase during lunch break on one court day! I'm sure he'll come up with some other screwball stunt, rather than pony up the $$ and do the right thing. Hope Quinte Conservation doesn't wait on him to do something.

Cliff, that was just fantastic! I laughed, I ahwwwed, I laughed some more. Thanks!!

Where would I take a 15ft fiberglass hull for disposal in toronto??

Freecycle.org is great for getting rid of stuff you'd never imagine anyone would want. Find the groups nearest your chunk of Toronto, post an "offer" message, and someone'll likely be thrilled to come get it. Here's the list of Freecycle groups in Ontario. -
You're welcome! Gotta say, I love the new punny nick.

Up at the top right of any page, click "My Controls" to get to the control panel. Scroll 2/3 of the way down, look at the left edge, and you'll see "Change Display Name." Congrats on the new truck!

Did anybody else notice the Blind Fishing Boat Project on that site? Inspiring, to say the least.

Don't blame you for wondering, forrest...but I don't think it's a marketing thing. Looks to me like a combination of chance timing, and a kid who's trying too hard. I don't think any of us would've raised an eyebrow at ehg's thread on its own. He's been here a long time, writes sensibly, and we all know he can catch fish. The pic he used for illustration did show up a little bigger than we're used to, but I'm guessing that's because he used his own photobucket space instead of leeching from a retailer's server. What makes it look weird are the 2 other threads you pointed to. Both started by Mike the Bass Fisher, a school kid who's cranking out ~50 posts a week. Seems to be just starting out fishing, so the posts are on a really basic level. Too many posts + wrong writing style + too low info level = looks like spam.

Ahhhwwww! I think we should be able to claim bonus inches for this....

This happened to me a couple days ago. I'd used Google to look up something here instead of the site's built in search, and after clicking through from Google, suddenly all threads were displaying in outline mode. I clicked to set it back to normal mode, and it's been behaving itself ever since.

My pleasure! Glad to be useful. On weekday evenings when we're not fishing, Jeff & I are usually on this chat network. Tonight sure doesn't look like fishing weather, so we should be online.
-
Geez, we can't have that, can we Bill?! While we figure out which way is up, I've set up a temporary chat room. For those of you who like using the normal java type interface inside a web page, just click this link. Ignore the digital signature warning, if it pops up. Fill in your name in the top blank, click the "Connect to StarChat" button, and you're in. If anyone's used to using standard IRC software (like mIRC, pIRCh, etc): server: irc.starchat.net port: 6667 channel name: #OFNcommunity I've had tech listserv chat rooms based on this network for pushing 10 years now. Very stable, very respectable, and a wonderful admin team. Nothing to worry about there, and it's free.

The Great Ontario Salmon Derby is giving away Lure-King tackle as prizes this year, so I'm guessing they're still around. A little sideways googling showed "Lure King" sharing an address & phone number with a company called "L K Specialties Inc." This vaguely-named company makes/exports fishing lures from an address in Bolton now, according to their profile on Industry Canada's website. Good luck!

Since we were rained/blown off the lake, Jeff & I went wandering tackle shops on Sunday. Was our first time stopping into Gagnon's, and I've gotta say...they've got an absolutely stunning variety of stuff. I felt like I was let loose at Willy Wonka's. The marked prices, however, were high. $9 for a Rapala that's $8 at BPS, and $50 over MSRP on one Shimano rod (but BPS is $60 over for the same thing). Pleasant surprise of the day: JB's in Etobicoke had the same rod priced at MSRP...$50 less than the nearest competition. Was starting to think I'd never see it.

Joey's right...that sapphire ring does look antique. Reminds me of my late grandmother's engagement ring ca. 1927. If it's stamped 14k, it's higher end - likely a very nice quality stone in it. You'll find cheapy 10k jewelry that looks like a huge hulking impressive thing until you pick it up and it weighs nothing. They cut corners skimping on gold in low-end stuff. The band on this ring is oddly thin and narrow, so I'm guessing if you look up underneath where the stones are, you'll likely see a big empty space. Leaning toward "cheapy 10k piece with real but poor quality stones" as my guess for the pinky ring. Your local goldsmith will be able to tell you by looking at it. I lost my engagement & wedding rings years ago. My hand had gotten sore while I was out, so I'd put the rings on my watch band, and tossed the watch in the cup holder of my car. Got to the restaurant, put the watch on my lap while I rummaged for toonies for the tip...and then got out of the car without remembering to put the watch back in the cupholder. Got them back (YAY!!) once the woman who picked them up saw "REWARD!" in big letters in the local papers. Still paranoid about them. If I know I'm going to have them off for a long time while I'm out (working inside machines, getting covered in stinkbait, whatever), I usually leave them at home. That coin you found seems to be part of a 1967 gas station promotion set. Couldn't find much on them other than eBay examples for Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Canada. There's a set of geocaches around Cavan with a "treasures" theme...the owner fills them with costume jewelry, coins, etc he finds while metal detecting.
