  1. We used to have lots of shad here in the Ohio river, very few the last five years. Not sure why that is.
  2. Any one seen these propane powered out boards from Mercury? I don't know how to put a link on here.
  3. They are in the Ohio River but nothing like in years past. After 911 the stocking program ceased I suppose because of budget cuts. back in the mid 80s on you could catch stripers and saugeye at will. Waiting on the fall run now but the last few years it's been pretty much non existent.
  4. We have them around town here in south east Ohio.
  5. We went to Big Gull lake near Northbrook Ont. in Sept. I couldn't believe how small they were. 12 or 14 inches long. A guy was telling us about the one that got away and he said you won't believe this but I bet that pike was 2 feet long. I haven't been there since 2006 and the fishing was getting bad then I thought but man I couldn't believe it. The lake is as beautiful as it ever was but the fishing pressure must be relentless. Big boats every where and blast by you at full tilt 20 yards away. How far north or west do you have to go these days to get into fishing like it was 30 or 40 years ago.
  6. Ok thanks you guy's, I've read up on it, I thought it would be nice to get some first hand info if I could.
  7. I was diagnosed with parkinsons in 2013, I'm about maxed out on my meds and the relief time they provide keeps shorter and shorter. My last visit to the neurologist at the Cleveland clinic they suggested DBS (deep brain stimulation) surgery. I was wondering if anyone here has had this procedure done or know anyone who has. Thx.
  8. It's shallow mostly and alot of weeds. We fish all over the lake, normally in June.
  9. We usually stay at Hyatts Glennhaven on the shallow end of the lake. We have never been up there this time of the year. Do you jig a lead head with a twister tail?
  10. Walleye and Bass will be what we are fishing for.
  11. looks like we will be up there September 7th or 8th for a week. I was wondering what lures may be best to try. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
  12. I put mine on myself. I had to take the axle to a machine shop first to move the spring mounts out on it. That was another $50.00.
  13. I just replaced the axle on my old boat trailer. Axle, bearings and hub plus a Ubolt kit was $127.00 US. The axle is rated for 2000 lbs . I have a aluminum Jon Boat.
  14. Was talking to a friend that said he fished there back in the 80s. Just wondering how the fishing was now a days. If anyone is familiar with it. Thanks

    GERRIT

Anyone ever talk to Gerrit? I was just curious how his trip to Big Gull Lake went.
  20. A fellow that always fished with our gang swore one evening he was out by him self off chimney island one evening and hooked a musky as long as the old metal boats they used to rent at bayview cabins. He never landed it but swore it was true. That was in the 60s Hey Gerrit ask them at Hyyatts about the guy that lost his pole in the narrows in 30 ft. Of water in 1993 and snagged it jigging in 2000.That was me.?
  21. We fished the lake from the early 60s till 2006,in all that time I've heard of a few caught. I caught a small one as did a buddy. Used to catch decent pike 6lb or so on a regular basis, and bass 3-4 lbs. In the 60s the pike were bigger double digits on some. We always stayed at Bayview and in the later years Hiyats. I really like that lake and know it well.would love to go back but the fishing really went down hill in the mid to late 90s. The walleye was decent but nothing over 5 or 6 lbs for us. Lots of eaters, we always went in June and found most our walleye in the weeds in 10 to 12 ft. Of water.
  22. Thankyou all for your reply's, I'll certainly report if indeed we go there.
  23. Hello I was just curious if anyone has fished this lake and if you liked it.
